Race 1: TAB ‘ORIGIN’ JOCKEY SERIES CLASS 2 PLATE – 2200M

NIATROSS – Shifted out abruptly shortly after jumping. Shifted out abruptly under riding approaching the 150m, causing its rider to stop riding and straighten.

UNLEASH THE RED – Shifted four wide to improve approaching the 800m.

LINCOLN’S COMMAND – Lost ground shortly after jumping when crowded for room between UNLEASH THE RED and NIATROSS, which shifted out abruptly. Improved on to the heels of ROULETTE ROYAL approaching the 1200m, had to be steadied and shifted outwards and in doing so forced LA FIREBIRD wider on the course. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination at the request of trainer B. Ahrens and was found to have poor post-race recovery.

ROULETTE ROYAL – Shied out away from NIATROSS approaching the 100m.

TOP ME UP AGAIN – When asked to explain the horse’s performance, rider C. Newitt stated that the gelding travelled well in a handy position and shortly after straightening was in a winnable position but then proved disappointing over the final 200m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the horse had poor post-race recovery.

JOY’S REWARD – Bumped on jumping. After leading for the majority of the event, when placed under pressure passing the 600m commenced to weaken and finished at the rear of the field. When asked to explain the horse’s performance, rider K. O’Hara stated that the mare travelled well until passing the 600m and failed to respond when placed under pressure and she desisted from riding the mare out over the final 200m as she had concerns with its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have poor post-race recovery and to be exhibiting signs of being in season.

LA FIREBIRD – Forced into a three wide position passing the 1200m and remained in that position without cover for the remainder of the event.

PARIS CRYSTAL – Laid in when placed under pressure passing the 300m and became awkwardly placed at the heels of ROULETTE ROYAL.

ALAM MO NA – Began awkwardly and made contact with the hindquarters of JOY’S REWARD and lost ground. After being caught three wide in a midfield position in the early stages, was allowed to stride forward to obtain a position one wide with cover passing the 1200m.

Race 2: NUTURF C,G&E MAIDEN H'CAP – 1200M

EMMA’S JET – En route to the barriers dislodged its rider, who was subsequently cleared to fulfil his engagement. Slow to begin.

HAPPY BIBI – Inconvenienced passing the 200m by SIRFINA, which laid in whilst weakening.

MILITARY KINGS – Began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping GO BETTER. Raced three wide with cover.

MY MATE VINNY – Began awkwardly, bumped heavily on the hindquarters of GO BETTER and lost ground. Raced three wide without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

WEONA SMARTONE – Raced greenly and hung out when racing in the position outside the leader after passing the 600m. Laid in approaching the 300m and became awkwardly placed at the heels of the tiring SIRFINA. When asked to comment on the horse’s performance, rider R. Maloney stated that the gelding raced greenly throughout and would improve with the experience of today’s event.

TORRIENTE – Improved inside the heels of HAPPY BIBI approaching the 400m, had to be steadied and made contact with the running rail. Held up rounding the home turn.

SIRFINA – Very fractious in the enclosure and was reluctant to proceed to the barriers. A warning was placed against the gelding for its pre-race manners.

GO BETTER – Bumped on jumping. Cast the off hind plate in running.

Race 3: TAB F&M MAIDEN H'CAP – 1200M

CABOCHON LIL – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

BOLD INSPIRATION – Began awkwardly and shifted out.

FLATTER – Bumped heavily on the hindquarters on jumping.

JOY TOO ALL – Slow to begin. Had to be steadied away from the heels of LADY BRAHMOS approaching the 700m and shifted wider on the course.

CARIBBEAN KISSES – Lost ground shortly after the start when crowded for room between BOLD INSPIRATION, which laid out, and RELENTLESS MISS, which laid in. Commenced to overrace when trailing FLATTER approaching the 800m and had to be severely checked away from the heels of that runner. R. Maloney, the rider of FLATTER, was advised to exercise greater care and not to excessively slow the speed whilst leading.

RELENTLESS MISS – Improved inside the heels of ENCIEH approaching the 800m and had to be restrained. J. Bayliss, the rider of ENCIEH, was advised to give more clearance to his fellow riders when crossing in similar circumstances.

ENCIEH – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with the hindquarters of FLATTER.

EULEILAH – Trainer T. Cotsiopoulos was fined $200 for failing to declare apprentice A. Thompson as rider by the prescribed time. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

The scheduled starting time of Race 4 was delayed to allow for a thunderstorm to pass. Following the storm, during which approximately 107mm of rain fell, stewards and jockeys inspected the track and noted that surface water was present in a number of sections of the track, resulting in the track being unsafe for racing. After consultation with jockeys, BRC officials and Racing Queensland officials, stewards determined that a further track inspection should be carried out after allowing some time for the surface water to disperse.

Following the further inspection of the track, it was also noted that, apart from the state of the track, the ambulance vehicle would be unable to follow the field, giving rise to a further safety issue.

Accordingly, stewards called off the remainder of the meeting at 5:20 pm.
