HIDDEN ROAD -  App T. Brooker explained her instructions were to endeavour to try and lead if possible but the gelding began awkwardly resulting in her losing some ground however, she endeavoured to carry out her instructions hoping KAPGUN would be able to cross to the lead sooner than it did.  App Brooker stated after establishing its position outside the leader HIDDEN ROAD then began to hang out badly and continued to do so until straightening.  App Brooker added that in the straight the horse weakened and due to it hanging she did not persist in riding it out.  Trainer L. Stratton confirmed the instructions given.  Ms Stratton was advised that as the gelding had previously offended in relation to its tendency to hang it must compete in an official barrier trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being allowed to race again.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Following the running of this event the track was upgraded to a Good 3.

DEFECTIVE – Dislodged its rider in the parade ring whilst trying to escape making contact with the rail.  The horse was examined in the parade ring by the veterinary surgeon in the presence of trainer T. Gollan.  The veterinary surgeon indicated there were no visible abrasions and in consultation with Mr Gollan cleared the horse to start. The horse was again examined on arrival at the barriers and in consultation with jockey J. Orman the veterinary surgeon confirmed his decision to allow DEFECTIVE to take its place in the field.  Jockey Orman explained that the gelding, which was having its first start, showed good early speed and was able to cross to the lead.  Jockey Orman stated the horse raced greenly in the middle stages and in the straight.  Jockey Orman added that when placed under pressure the horse wanted to lay in, which in his opinion was it beginning to tire.  Jockey Orman was of the opinion the horse would be better suited stepping up in distance and would gain race fitness from today’s run.

Jockey Denby added from today’s draw the instructions were to endeavour to replicate the jump out run.  Jockey Denby added that after beginning well she was able to let the filly stride forward without much urging where it raced outside the leader.  Trainer K.
