Mr Costa subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 175(k)  in that his negligence led to a breach of AR. 53C(b) and he was fined $200.

GENERAL

As S. Galloway was indisposed due to personal reasons and apprentice Z. White was ill, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary

Race 1: CHANNEL 7 QTIS 3YO H'CAP – 1700M

EPIC RANT – When asked to comment on the gelding’s performance, jockey M. Cahill indicated that he was not disappointed with its performance today, given the Heavy 10 track in conjunction with his mount’s weight impost of 58.5kg.

ROCK DANCER – Trainer B. Wakefield was fined $100 for the late declaration of J. Lloyd as rider. Hampered on jumping.

Race 2: SCHWEPPES C,G&E CLASS 3 H'CAP – 1200M

DREAM MASTER – When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, jockey J. Lloyd was of the opinion that the gelding travels quite keenly in its races and whilst he was restraining his mount to slow the tempo, the gelding may have resented that. He was also of the view that the gelding would be better suited racing on a firmer surface than that of today’s event.

THUNDER ROCKER – Began awkwardly, making contact with the barrier partition, and lost ground.

Race 3: RAY WHITE IPSWICH QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

DIRECT ACTION – When questioned regarding the horse’s improved performance today, trainer S. Kendrick stated that the gelding was hampered on jumping at its first start and unable to muster speed over the 900m which he believed was too short for the gelding. He added that since then the horse has trialled and worked well leading up to today’s event and as such he stepped the gelding up to a more suitable journey of 1200m. He said he expected a more forward showing today over the further distance and with the wet track, noting that the gelding is bred to handle the wet, and he was not overly surprised by the win.

ULTIMATE RING – Began awkwardly.

FAST AND HOPEFUL – Had to be steadied away from the heels of NOOKS AND CRANNIES passing the 800m.

NOOKS AND CRANNIES – Began awkwardly and made contact with the barrier partition.

TEQUILA BOOM – Slow to begin.

Race 4: CARLTON MID MAIDEN PLATE – 1700M

ESCAPADO – Hampered shortly after the start. Held up passing the 400m and had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at heels and then shifted wider to obtain clear running.

KUIPER – Overraced in the early stages and then had a tendency to lay out rounding the turn at the 1300m.

PIPEMAJOR – Overraced in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the off hind leg.

SUNDAYINMANHATTAN – Blundered on jumping.

SCOVERMAN – Raced three wide without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Trainer A. Cowell was advised that in light of the horse’s poor performance today, it would be ineligible to compete at metropolitan meetings until such time as its provincial form improves.

BOUCHARD – Held up for a short distance after passing the 400m and had to be steadied away from the heels of a runner which shifted in.

SELENITE – Had to be steadied away from the heels of the tiring SCOVERMAN approaching the 800m. Trainer W. Melvin reported to stewards that after its poor performance today he will have an endoscopic examination conducted on the mare, the results of which he will advise stewards.

Race 5: SIRROMET MAIDEN PLATE – 1020M

BIG DAN THE MAN – Raced four wide without cover.

MISSILE STRIKE – Raced three wide without cover.

TEEROYS TRIBUTE – Had to be steadied away from the heels of CAPITAL CITY rounding the home turn and shifted out to obtain clear running. GRACEVILLE – Slow into stride.

KAPSTAR – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

HIGH DEGREE – Had to be steadied away from the heels of OH BOY shortly after the start and then commenced to overrace. Had to be steadied passing the 400m when racing in restricted room to the inside of SNIPPET OF HOPE, which had a tendency to lay in.

CAPITAL CITY – Reared slightly as the start was effected and lost ground.

Race 7: CARLTON DRAUGHT CLASS 5 H'CAP – 1280M

Upon track inspection at 6:00 am the mouth of the 1350m chute was deemed unsafe for racing. Stewards consulted with Racing Queensland officials who agreed to alter the distance of this race to approximately 1280m and start from the 1200m chute.

ROTHABYE – Slow to begin. Had a tendency to lay out under pressure in the early part of the home straight.

BIANTIC – Raced three wide with cover throughout.

FLEUR D’ORAGE – Hampered on jumping. When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, jockey M. Cahill explained that the mare raced in her usual racing position, which is near the rear of the field, however never travelled at any part of the race and when placed under pressure approaching the 600m, failed to respond and proved disappointing over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

EXCELLENT SPIRIT – Fractious in the barriers and began awkwardly. Bumped approaching the 150m by VIADUCTRESS, which shifted in.

GOULDIAN – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.

ROMAN DOLL – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

SHUDA KNOWN BETTER – Began awkwardly, got its head up and lost some ground.

LET’S GO CHAMP – Raced in the lead until rounding the home turn and then weakened in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
