From Sunshine Coast Meeting 29/7/2018 – Race 2

Stewards concluded an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding IT’SALKAY being presented to race at the Sunshine Coast meeting on 29 July 2018 in Race 2. On inspection it was determined that the brands and markings did not match those as registered with Racing Australia or the Thoroughbred Identity Card. Following initial evidence being taken the inquiry was adjourned to allow IT’SALKAY to be re-blood typed, as evidence tended suggested an error had been made when the gelding was first identified. Evidence was tendered by trainer K. Loy today which supported that an error had been made when initial identification had occurred and supported that the horse which was presented to race was the horse in accordance with the breeding of IT’SALKAY.  Despite this trainer Loy was charged under LR40 in that she failed to correctly identify IT’SALKAY in accordance with its Thoroughbred Identity Card and was fined $400.00. In assessing penalty stewards took into account the mitigating factors in that errors had been made by other parties in failing to correctly identify the horse when blood typed and also when obtaining a barrier certificate to race.
