Race 2: STATHAM CHEESMAN BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP – 1000m

The declaration of correct weight was delayed to enable Stewards to inquire into the reasons for Apprentice D. McGillivray returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram underweight. IL BANDITO was subsequently disqualified from its first placing under the provisions of AR. 209(2)(a) when apprentice McGillivray weighed in in excess of half a kilogram underweight. At a subsequent inquiry, apprentice McGillivray pleaded guilty of a charge under AR. 209(2)(b) in that he returned to scale in excess of half a kilogram underweight when as the rider of IL BANDITO. Apprentice McGillivray’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 14 days to commence midnight the 4th of April 2020 and to conclude midnight the 18th of April 2020. Further to this apprentice McGillivray was also fined $500. In determining penalty, Stewards were mindful of the seriousness of the breach of this Rule, were mindful of apprentice McGillivray’s limited experience as an apprentice and further took into consideration that no betting was undertaken this meeting. Apprentice McGillivray was advised of his appeal rights. Stewards amended the results accordingly.

MOJOS – Pulled up shortly after the event and was reluctant to return to the mounting yard. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained an injury to the off fore leg. Upon consultation with the on-course veterinarian, trainer M. Johnstone advised that the gelding would be taken back to the stables where a further more extensive veterinary examination would be undertaken. Stewards advised Mr Johnstone that MOJOS would require a further veterinary certificate prior to it returning to race. Mr Johnstone further advised that he would notify stewards of the horses’ condition in the week following the event.
