Prior to the start of the event Jockey B. Powell advised that he was ill and would not be able to fulfil his riding engagements at the meeting. Stewards noted Jockey Powell’s explanation and advised him he would need to obtain a medical certificate prior to returning.
RACE 1: HAYMANS ELECTRICAL WARWICK QTIS MAIDEN PLATE – 900m
AVATAR – Trainer S. McEwan advised that the gelding refused to load into the float prior to the event and was subsequently declared a late scratching. Ms McEwan further advised that the she would be retiring the gelding.
NO CRYSTAL BALL – Completed a full lap of the track at moderate pace prior to the start. A pre-race veterinary examination passed the horse fit to race. Raced wide without cover during the early stages. Forced wider by another runner to the inside rounding the 600m and continued to race wide for the remainder of the event.
MISS PAPERLACE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
MYLASTGEEGEE – Slow to begin. Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.
MASSIE WHISPER – Raced greenly throughout the middle stages. Shifted out abruptly at the 600m taking out another runner.
RACE 2: N H FOODS WHYALLA BEEF BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP – 900m
SHELLY’S DREAM – Began awkwardly.
WHATS THE MATTER – Shifted out abruptly shortly after the start.
HIDDEN WOMAN – Slow to begin and failed to muster early speed. At the 600m, shifted out abruptly towards the outside running rail and took no further competitive part in the event. Trainer S. McEwan advised that the horse would be retired immediately. In light of this no further action was taken.
OUTPOST – Upon returning to scale, Apprentice T. Williams reported that the felt uncomfortable in its action and was inclined to hang out rounding the turns of today’s event.
JEPTOO – Raced wide rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse had sustained a minor laceration to the off fore leg.
RACE 3: WILSHIRE & CO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200m
The start of race three was delayed due to the barriers being shifted to the correct distance.
DRAGON FLY MISS – Jockey L. Tilley replaced Jockey B Powell.
LONNIES PRIDE – Inconvenienced at the start when it began awkwardly striking the barrier petition.
SUPREME SPIRIT – Slow to begin. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
LILLY FAIR – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure down the home straight.
RACE 4: JEFF HANNAFORD TEXAS CUP OPEN HANDICAP – 1200m
REDSSON – Over raced throughout the middle stages.
DUCHILLI – Raced wide over the concluding stages.
RACE 5: TOPX BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP – 1200m
CORDER – Slow to begin.
OUR CHARLOTTE – Slow into stride.
BALLINA BAY – Began awkwardly.
HARIR – When questioned regarding the improved performance of the horse, Trainer G. Schwenke advised that the mare did not handle the rain-affected ground and choked down at her last start. Mr Schwenke also advised that in his opinion the mare worked well in preparation for today’s event after removing the tongue-tie. Mr Schwenke stated that the stable did not wager on the mare in today event. Stewards noted Mr Schwenke’s explanation.
