When being restrained passing the 800m to allow another runner to cross his mount, raced ungenerously with its head in the air for some distance. Stewards questioned apprentice jockey B. Thornton regarding his tactics after passing the 900m, which after having had a position on the fence in the lead, resulted in his horse being positioned 3 wide without cover passing the 600m.
