Starter – A. Allom

Race 1: D&C PARKER HELICOPTERS QTIS BENCHMARK 60 Handicap (1000 metres)

Upon reviewing the stewards patrol footage of the head-on to the jump, Stewards found that two runners drawn in the furthest barriers had started the event from the incorrect barriers.

Stewards inquired into the matter, questioning Jockey T. Brummell (BI TURBO), Jockey E. Bell (FREDDIE EDDIE) and Starter A. Allom regarding the reasoning behind why they took up the incorrect barriers. Both Jockey T. Brummell and Jockey E. Bell stated that they had questioned the starter if they were being loaded into their correct barriers, however they were instructed by the Starter to enter the following barriers where their mounts had jumped from – Jockey T. Brummell (Barrier 7), Jockey E. Bell (Barrier 6). Stewards accepted the explanation of Jockeys Brummell and Bell in that they had made all reasonable endeavours to occupy their drawn barriers and then had complied with the direction of the Starter.

Given that correct weight had already been announced and that Stewards were satisfied that jumping from the two furthest barriers had no detrimental impact or effect on the running of the race and the placings of both runners, Stewards took no further action under the provisions of AR198(2).

Starter A. Allom was advised in that in future when questioned by riders regarding their correct barrier draws to refer to his starters paperwork as well as liaise with the Stewards.
