GENERAL:

Trainer T. Rowe was questioned in regards to the scratching of DESERT COWBOY (Race 3) in relation to AR74. Mr Rowe advised that due to the wet weather in the past week the gelding which was returning from spell missed a trial and grass gallop in preparation for today’s race. Stewards noted the explanation.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions the following rider was permitted to ride his respective mount over its allotted weight.

Race 1, – A. Abe + .5kg @ 56kg.
Race 3, – A. Abe + 1kg @ 56kg.

Race 1: BOTTLEMART MALANDA BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP – 1200 Metres

SUPER ROSE – Fractious in the barriers prior the start and was slow to begin.

ARAWELO – Slow into stride.

FIRST SLIP – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

SUPER DANCER – Commenced to over-race for a short distance leaving the 1000 metres. Shifted in near the 900 metres tightening RYANO.

RYANO – Checked and lost ground when tightened for room near the 900 metres by SUPER DANCER which shifted in. Jockey L. Morrison (SUPER DANCER) pleaded guilty to a charge to careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that she permitted that runner to shift in when not sufficiently clear, causing RYANO (S. Wilson) to be checked and lose its rightful running. Jockey L. Morrison’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of (9) days to commence midnight 24/02/2022 (after the completion of a previous penalty) and expire midnight 2/02/2022. Ms Morrison was advised of her right of review against the stewards finding.

CLOUT – Raced three wide without cover in the early and middle stages.

AHRI'S AMORE – Lost its off hind plate during the race.

RUSTIC ROCKER – Post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have injured it off hind fetlock. Connections were advised a veterinary certificate of soundness must be provided prior to its next race start.

Race 2: 1911 RESTAURANT BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP – 1400 Metres

SUNNY COWBOY – Slow to begin. Rider K. Swaffer reported the gelding had an irregular breathing pattern. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow post-race recovery. Connections advised its current racing preparation would
Be reviewed in the coming days. Connections were advised a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next start.

MAGNATE – Shifted in crowding TRIGGER leaving near the 1100 metres. Rider F. Edwards was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.

TRIGGER – Threw its head in the air when crowded and being crossed by MAGNATE approaching the 1100 metres.

Race 3: TOM ENGLISH MEMORIAL OPEN HANDICAP – 1100 Metres

TOFF ROCKS – Slow to begin.

Race 4: SPAR MALANDA MAIDEN PLATE – 1000 Metres

SON DINGO – A pre-race veterinary examination cleared the gelding to start. Shifted in shortly after the start bumping REVOULUZ and then attempted to buck, shifting in abruptly making heavy contact with DEECATH which was severely checked and lost ground and in turn shifted in making heavy contact with SMART SPHERE which was severely checked making contact with the running rail and lost considerable ground. Trainer G. Horner was advised the gelding must trial to the stewards satisfaction prior to its next start under the provisions of AR20(e) and further that its nomination would be refused under the provisions of AR80 until an updated report was furnished on the condition of its left eye.

OUTDARE – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start.

SHE'S A SINNER – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping REVOULUZ. Checked shortly after the start to avoid the heels of SON DINGO which shifted in abruptly when attempting to buck.

REVOULUZ – Bumped on jumping. Again, bumped shortly after the start.

SMART SPHERE – Slow to begin. Severely checked and lost considerable ground near the 900 metres.

DEECATH – Severely checked and lost ground near the 900 metres.

Race 5: THE BIG PUB MALANDA QTIS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP – 1000 Metres

MACEDON FLYER – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start, dislodging rider K. Rockett. Jockey K. Rockett who declared himself free of any injury and was able to fulfil his engagement.

ROSE OF ATHENS – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Raced wide for the majority of the race.

AMELIA'S RAINBOW – Slow to begin.

MYSTERY 'N' MAGIC – Slow to begin. Shifted out near the 200 metres bumping CADENCE.

FILLY SLATER – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure near the 200 metres.

CADENCE – Bumped near the 200 metres.

SIR ROLAND – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
