GENERAL
 
Following a request from the Race Club due to a sprinkler malfunction in the early morning and approximately 10mm of water going on the track.
Stewards inspected the track at 6:00am, 10:00am then again at 11:50am with a delegation of senior riders and declared the track safe for racing and the meeting preceded accordingly.
 
 
Race 1: BARCALDINE WELDING WORKS QTIS Maiden Plate 1300M
 
 
AUSSIE MYTHOLOGY – began awkwardly and had to be steadied near the 800 metres. Over raced for a short distance soon after.
 
GOLD VEE EYE PEA – slow to begin, failed to show any early speed and raced wide throughout.
 
HOT ROD JACK – tightened for room near the 800m and raced wide for the majority.
 
WINDOM – raced wide for the majority.
 
ZOROSSA – refused to load was declared a late scratching at 1:08pm. Stewards order all bets invested on ZOROSSA to be refunded and declared the following deductions were to occur 19 cents for all win bets and 16 cents for all place bets. Trainer Ray Hermann was advised ZOROSSA was stood down from racing until it passes two barrier trials to the satisfaction of stewards.
 
THE VERESDALE – began very awkwardly rearing in the air and as a result was slow into stride.
 
GOODY GOODY – hung in down the back straight and raced wide for the remainder.
 
 
 
Race 2: WESTERN FREIGHT LINK BENCHMARK 50 Handicap 1200M
 
GOLDEN EIGHTY – bumped PRIZED ARTIST shortly after the start and held up for clear running from 300metres until the 200 metres.
 
HIGHLAND EAGLE – hung in over the concluding stages. Apprentice jockey Anna Bakos pleaded guilty to a charge under the terms of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100 metres, 2 more than permitted. Apprentice Bakos was issued with a reprimand.
 
ADMIRAL ASH – raced wide for the majority, then hung in over the concluding stages.
 
TREBLA – raced wide throughout
 
PRIZED ARTIST – bumped by GOLDEN EIGHTY shortly after the start resulting in being slow into stride.
 
REALLY REALLY GOOD – when questioned by stewards in regard to the improved performance by REALL REALLY GOOD trainer Patrick O’Toole stated that the wet track helped and the last run in Longreach was a better performance.
 
 
Race 3: WESTERN TRUCK GROUP BENCHMARK 50 Handicap 1200M
 
GRAND PALAZZO – slow to begin and raced wide from the 500 metres.
 
BOSTON BELLE – bumped shortly after the start by SIZZLING RIVER resulting in being slow into stride, over-raced in the early stages and raced wide for the majority.
 
SIZZLING RIVER – bumped BOSTON BELLE shortly after the start.
 
LUNA GLIDE – race wide for the majority. Trainer Richard Simpson was fined $100.00 under LR67 for failing to declare a rider by the prescribed time.
 
SON OF UTRED – raced wide for the majority.
 
 
Race 4: GBA CONSULTING ENGINEERS Class 3 Plate 1000M
 
HIGHGROUND – shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages. Shifted out near the 300 metres.
 
ICE ICE BABY – bumped with RAPIDS at the 700 metres.
 
INVINCIBLE JET – upon returning to scale rider Jade Doolan made application to view the patrol footage in the home straight in regard to lodging an objection against the winner HIGHGROUND after doing so jockey Doolan lodged an objection for alleged interference near the 250 metres. After considering the evidence provided by both riders and trainers involved and the available patrol footage Stewards believed the interference and the margin at the end was not enough to uphold the protest and duly declared correct weight on the judge’s semaphored numbers. Lay in from the 250 metres until the finish line.
 
GAZZMAN – slow to begin.
 
MUSTAFA – raced wide for the majority.
 
RAPIDS – bumped with ICE ICE BABY at the 700 metres and raced wide throughout.
 
TORONASAURUS REX – raced wide for the majority.
 
JOHNNY DEEP – began awkwardly.
 
 
 
Race 5: M NUTRIEN BLACKALL Class 6 Plate 1200M
 
SCHWEID AS – raced wide for the majority.
 
PARKBURN – stood flat footed in the barriers and as a result was slow into stride. Near the 300 metres shifted in under riding resulting in EXCEED ROCK being taken in abruptly and inconveniencing FINESSE TESS. Apprentice jockey Anna Bakos pleaded guilty to a charge under the terms of AR131(a) for careless riding when shifting in when not clear to do so. Jockey Bakos license to ride in races was suspended for 11 days from Midnight 6th May 2023 up to midnight 17th May 2023. Near the 100 metres shifted in inconveniencing EXCEED ROCK. Apprentice jockey Anna Bakos was issued with a reprimand under the terms of AR131(a) for careless riding when shifting when not clear to do so.
 
BETTER THAN GOLD – when questioned by stewards regarding the very disappointing run by BETTER THAN GOLD the only explanation trainer Rodney Little could offer was that BETTER THAN GOLD was past its best and he would be recommending to the owners to retire BETTER THAN GOLD.
 
EXCEED ROCK – approaching the 300 metres was taken in abruptly by PARKBURN and near the 100 metres had to steadied when PARKBURN shifted in.
 
FINESSE TESS – near the 300 metres was inconvenienced by EXCEED ROCK.
 
LILY ALLEZ – slow to begin, raced in restricted room near the 800m.
 
 
Race 6: ROONEY'S RURAL CONTRACTING RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 Handicap 1600M
 
 
HALLSIDE HOT STUFF – had to be steadied off heels approaching the 1400m.
 
CRAIG AND HOFF – raced wide throughout.
 
THE LANDING – raced wide throughout.
 
MILKY ROCKET – slow to begin.
 
OUR YOUNG MAN – shifted out bumping with AUVERGNE on two occasions shortly after the start and raced throughout.
 
MURANO MAGIC – raced wide for the majority.
 
AUVERGNE – bumped by OUR YOUNG MAN on two occasions shortly after the start and raced wide from the 600 metres.
 
 
Race 7: PAT OGDEN MEMORIAL TREE OF KNOWLEDGE/OUTBACK RACING SHOWCASE HEAT OPEN 1600M
 
ECHO POINT – jockey Quade Krogh pleaded guilty to a charge under the terms of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100 metres, 1 more than permitted. Jockey Krogh was issued with a reprimand.
 
GYPSY BIKER – jumped inwards at the start.
 
WAITAKERE – raced wide for the early stages.
 
CAFFREY – began awkwardly and raced wide in the early and middle stages. Apprentice Tyler Leslight pleaded guilty to a charge under the terms of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on 7 occasions prior to the 100 metres, 2 more than permitted. Jockey Leslight was fined the sum of $500.00. When determining appropriate penalty stewards were mindful that this was the eight offence for use of the whip on seven or more occasions by apprentice Leslight in the last 6 months under this rule.
 
 
SAVVY LEGEND – slow to begin and raced wide from the 600metres.
 
ART BY CONCORDE – began awkwardly and shortly after the start bumped with CAFFREY.
 
TOWER ROAD – slow to begin.
 
SKELLIG ISLAND – slow to begin and raced wide throughout. Jockey Chris Mclver stated that his mount failed to handle the wet conditions.
