Race 1: NEXT PAYMENTS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP - 850m

BJORN - Slow to begin then raced wide throughout, Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

FAST AND THORNY - Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground, raced wide for the majority.

GALAXY QUEST - On return to scale rider reported the gelding failed to handle the sand track.

Jockey M. Cahill fined $100 under A.R. 144 for failing to weigh in for 3rd.



Race 2: NUFARM LIGHTNING OPEN HANDICAP - 1090m

VELONSKI - Tightened at the start and lost ground. Jockey J.Missen reported the gelding raced ungenerously in the early stages of the event placing him back in the field. J.Missen further added the gelding didn’t handle the going also resented the kickback.

DANA DANCER - Raced wide throughout.

ZIP ZIP GIRL - Raced wide throughout.



Race 3: RAPTIS PAX QTIS MAIDEN PLATE SET WEIGHTS - 1090m

MUSTANG JACK - was declared a late scratching at 1:40pm on vet’s advice due to sustaining an injury in transit to the course.

DOERAYME DRAGON - Began awkwardly and shifted in bumping another runner.

ALROE - Reared as the start was effected and lost ground, overraced early and middle stages.

APPLE TREE CREEK - Shortly after the start was bumped on the hind quarters by DOERAYME DRAGON which shifted in.

COME ON HUSS - Raced wide rounding the home turn.

KING KAHN - Raced wide rounding the home turn.

BUCK THE SYSTEM - Stewards afforded Trainer M. Hassam the opportunity to comment on today’s performance. M. Hassan indicated last start the gelding didn’t handle the firm racing surface and was inclined to hang out also racing wide for the majority of the event. She further added with the addition of a lugging bit the gelding was more tractable and appreciated the softer racing surface.



Race 4: INCITEC PIVOT BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP - 1212m

GRAND ACE - Bumped at the start and raced wide the majority. When questioned into the tactics adopted, Jockey A. Badger indicated that her instructions from the trainer were to ride the mare wide as they were of the view that it was the better section of the track. She further added that it was the mare’s first start in six months and in her opinion the mare would be better suited over further distances on firmer ground. Trainer P. Badger confirmed instructions, Stewards noted the explanation.

MR DELTORO - Laid in under pressure over the final 150m



Race 5: HAIFA BUNDABERG GOLD CUP OPEN HANDICAP - 1600m

HIS REDEMPTION – Stood flat footed and lost ground, shortly after blundered. App M Murphy was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in under hard riding near the 200m resulting in another runner having to be steadied when tightened.

DARK ANGEL – Raced wide throughout.

WINNER WIMMER - Raced wide throughout.

SPIRITOF TRAVESTON - Raced wide throughout.

SURFACE TENSION - Had to be steadied near the 1000m when tightened for room, App H.English rider of a WINNER WIMMER, was reprimanded for shifting ground when not sufficiently clear near the 1000m. G. Colless was asked to comment on the disappointing performance. He indicated that the gelding travelled fairly in the earlier to middle stages and when asked for an effort from the 400m it commenced to weaken. G. Colless added the poor performance could be attributed to not handling the soft sand track conditions. Post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

UNIQUE FUSE – Steadied at the 200m when tightened for room.
