METALLIC REIGN was declared a late scratching at 1:14pm after the horse shied at an object on the outside of the course proper when proceeding to the barriers, dislodging rider R Wilson and galloping a significant distance.  On declaration correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on METALLIC REIGN to be refunded in full and deductions of 31 cents win and 28 cents place to apply on all winning bets prior to 1:14pm.  R Wilson was examined by QAS staff and cleared to fulfil her remaining riding commitments.  A post-race veterinary examination of METALLIC REIGN revealed no abnormality.

SOLID ASSET – Jumped in at the start.  App S Willis, rider of SOLID ASSET, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six (6) occasions prior to the 100 metres, one more than permitted.

Race 5 - BENCHMARK 60 Handicap (1380 METRES)

On return to scale a protest was lodged by App R Wilson, rider of second placegetter CADOUIN, against first past the post SHENZI (App S Willis) alleging interference near the 250 metres.  After viewing the patrol film and taking comments from connections of both runners, Stewards found that approaching the 250 metres SHENZI commenced to shift out under pressure when CADOUIN had established a run to the outside of that horse’s heels, and as a consequence CADOUIN was obliged to check away and shift to the inside of SHENZI.  Bearing in mind the head margin between both horses at the finish, and the amount of ground CADOUIN lost in this incident, Stewards upheld the protest and correct weight was semaphored on the placings 7 – 5 – 3 – 1.  At a subsequent inquiry, App S Willis was reprimanded under AR131(a) for careless riding in this incident and advised in similar circumstances she would be expected to stop riding her mount and straighten sooner than she did on this occasion.

EXPRESS DRAGON – Weakened significantly in the home straight.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the off foreleg.  Trainer K Sempf was advised EXPRESS DRAGON would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race or trial start.

SHENZI – Slow to begin.  Shifted out under pressure near the 250 metres.  Raced wide for the majority of the event.

CADOUIN – Checked away from heels near the 250 metres and lost ground.
