Stewards permitted the following weight variations at today’s meeting:
Race 3: SOLID ASSET – T Leslight – 55.5kg (+0.5kg)
 
As Colin Lennon was not riding at the meeting Stewards permitted riding changes as per the race Day summary sheet.
 
Due to a typographical error Brooke Richardson was shown as the rider of EMPORER’S REWARD in Race 2 in some publications when in fact the declared rider was Brooke Johnson.
 
MISS REINHART was declared a late scratching at 1:00pm. when there was no rider available.
 
 
Race 1 - BENCHMARK 55 Handicap (850 METRES)
 
OH SO REWARDING – Slow to begin.
 
GRACIEDE – Apprentice B Johnson reported the horse was reluctant to stride out and, in her opinion, resented the sand kickback.
 
RUTTO – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
ONLY EMMA – Raced wide throughout the event.
 
QUEEN DEE – Returned to the enclosure with blood present in the nearside nostril. A subsequent post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the inside of the nearside nostril, consistent with external trauma.
 
 
Race 2 - Maiden Plate (1090 METRES)
 
CASH ARTIST – Bumped shortly after the start.
 
EMPIRE CLUB – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on tactics adopted, particularly in the early stages of the event where the horse was not placed under pressure to maintain a forward position, apprentice Blunt advised instructions were to allow EMPIRE CLUB to settle in the early stages and to work into the race from the 600m. Trainer D Gardiner confirmed the instructions issued and Stewards accepted the explanations tendered.
 
MARMION – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Bumped by SPIRIT OF ZAZOU on a number of occasions in the home straight when that horse laid out under pressure.
 
SPIRIT OF ZAZOU – Laid out rounding the home turn and for the majority of the home straight. As a result, bumped with MARMION on a number of occasions near the 200m taking that horse wider on the track and obliging rider H Richardson to stop riding SPIRIT OF ZAZOU approaching the winning post. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Trainer D Gardiner was advised a warning would be placed on the racing manners of SPIRIT OF ZAZOU.
 
GOLD COAST DOLL – Returned to the enclosure with blood present in the nearside nostril. A subsequent post-race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the inside of the nearside nostril, consistent with external trauma. When asked to comment on the disappointing performance, trainer B Johnson could offer no explanation and advised the horse would now be sent for an immediate spell.
 
BONAFIED DIETY – Laid out shortly after the start and bumped CASH ARTIST. Apprentice R Wilson, rider of CASH ARTIST, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
JAIN – Following the event trainer K Roon advised the filly was showing signs of being in season.
 
 
 
Race 3 - BAND 0 - 50 Handicap (1212 METRES)
 
MASTER RICHARD – When asked to comment on the disappointing performance apprentice Brooke Johnson explained the horse began well and raced in a handy position, however when placed under pressure from the 600m failed to respond to her riding and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer B Crear could offer no explanation for the poor performance other than this was MASTER RICHARD’S first start on a sand track. In the circumstances Stewards took no direct action however did place a warning on the horse for a poor performance.
 
THORBEN – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
SCRUFF’N’STUFF – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
KARBORS – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
RUN THE CUTTER – Apprentice R Wilson reported the horse was reluctant to stride out and, in her opinion, resented the sand kickback.
 
SOLID ASSET – As there was no other rider available, Stewards permitted Apprentice T Leslight to ride the gelding. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
 
 
Race 4 - OPEN Plate (1212 METRES)
 
FAB’S COWBOY – Bumped with GOSSIAUX at the start. Raced three wide throughout.
 
GOSSIAUX – Bumped with FAB’S COWBOY at the start
 
 
 
Race 5 - BENCHMARK 60 Handicap (1380 METRES)
 
FROZE – Slow to begin. Steadied from the heels of CREDENZA near the 100m. Laid out from the 600m and as a result was unable to be fully tested by its rider in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Trainer B Johnson advised FROZE had won the majority of its races over a longer distance than that of today, and it would be his intention to now step the horse up in distance. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
CREDENZA – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. R Faehr, rider of CREDENZA, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted.
 
DAUNTING WARRIOR – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
 
NINE CIGARS – K Gates, rider of NINE CIGARS, was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. When asked to comment on the disappointing performance rider K Gates could offer no explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormality. Trainer B Gill advised NINE CIGARS would now be sent for an immediate spell.
 
CONAIR – Slow to begin. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight. Raced wide for the majority of the event.
