GENERAL
 
The trainers of the following horses which had not raced in over 12 months advised no issues. GORGEOUS KING (R1), IRONSTONE GAL (R1) and HUSTLED (R4) underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and were cleared to start.
 
Apprentice S. Blunt was severely reprimanded for failing to claim her full allowance down to her allotted riding weight on THE STORM (R1) and KUZCO LAD (R6). In determining the matter, stewards considered the personal circumstances submitted by S. Blunt regarding this matter.
 
 
Race 1: TOYOTA LANDCRUISER Maiden Plate 850m
 
REGALO D’ORO – Slow to begin and then bumped by CONLEY BELL which shifted out. Slow to muster speed in the early stages.
 
CONLEY BELL – Jumped out and bumped REGALO D’ORO. Raced wide throughout. Shifted wider rounding the home turn.
 
GORGEOUS KING – Began awkwardly and then shifted out.
 
PLATINUM ROSE – Jumped awkwardly. Jockey A. Spinks was fined $400 for using his whip eight times prior to the 100m, being three more than permitted. Jockey A. Spinks was fined $400 for failing to ride his mount out to the finish of the race. In assessing penalty, stewards could not be satisfied that his actions had cost his mount second placing.
 
 
Race 2: TOYOTA HILUX Benchmark 60 Handicap 850m
 
Correct weight was delayed when connections were given the opportunity to view the photo finish after a dead heat for first had been declared between DAUNTING PRINCESS and BRAZETTI. Connections representing both horses were satisfied with the judge’s decision and correct weight was declared.
 
GO DEEP – Slow to begin and then inconvenienced by INVANESS which shifted in. Momentarily inconvenienced near 750m. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey P. Hamblin stated that he was obliged to race in the softer going near the rail in the early and middle stages when racing to the inside of INVANESS, which he felt had a detrimental effect on the performance.
 
POTENT VIEW – Jumped in at the start and bumped INVANESS which then shifted in inconvenienced GO DEEP. Apprentice S. Blunt advised that the gelding never travelled comfortably on today’s track at any point, however felt fine in its action. Trainer G. Clem advised the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
 
DAUNTING PRINCESS – Jumped awkwardly and shifted out losing ground. Raced wide throughout.
 
COOEEBAYMAGIC – Bumped at the start. Raced wide throughout. Near the 150m was restrained when tightened from room. At a subsequent inquiry, stewards established COOEEBAYMAGIC was tightened for room between DONE IT AGAIN which was taken out by BRAZETTI which shifted out, and RUTTO, which despite the efforts of the rider shifted in and away from DAUNTING PRINCESS which shifted ground under pressure. In considering all the evidence, stewards could not apportion blame directly to any one rider, however advised apprentice S. Willis (BRAZETTI) and jockey D. Boutet (DAUNTING PRINCESS) to exercise greater care in future.
 
RUTTO – Jumped in at the start and bumped the hind quarters of COOEEBAYMAGIC. Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the early stages of the straight.
 
INVANESS – Bumped at the start and then shifted in and momentarily inconvenienced GO DEEP. Raced greenly near the 750m and shifted in and inconvenienced GO DEEP.
 
 
Race 3: BOB GALLAGHER MEMORIAL QTIS Benchmark Handicap 1090m
 
BEEOKAY – Raced wide from the 600m.
 
SECRET KING – Began awkwardly and was then slow into stride.
 
UNHINCHED – Bumped at the start.
 
COME CLEAN – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping UNHINCHED.
 
JAIN – Slow to begin. Jockey G. Steele reported the filly did not handle today’s track conditions. Trainer K. Roon advised that considering today’s performance the filly would now be sent for a spell.
 
YES NO MAYBE SO – Raced wide throughout.
 
FITZROY PLAIN – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 4: TOYOTA RAV4 BURNETT TO THE BEACH Benchmark 60 Handicap 1212m
 
SANTORINI SUMMER – Began awkwardly and then shifted in and bumped LIPSTICK LIES.
 
JAMESATELLI – Led the field until the 700m, weakened and finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lacerations to the offside fore canon and the gelding to be lame. Trainer G. Clem was advised that a vet clearance would be required before being permitted to race again.
 
COMMENTS – Raced wide from the 600m and shifted out wider rounding the home turn. Stewards intend to interview apprentice S. Willis regarding her use of the whip.
 
LIPSTICK LIES – Bumped at the start.
 
TRUE TALLY – Jockey N. Vuille was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip seven times prior to the 100m, being two more than permitted.
 
 
Race 5: TOYOTA PRADO Class B Handicap 1380m
 
TOY WHITTY – Reared as the start was affected and turning its head into the inside barrier resulting in the gelding missing the start by a significant distance, as a result took no competitive part in the race. Trainer D. Rideout was advised the gelding would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate.
 
QUARTER PAST – Race wide throughout.
 
MARMION - Stewards intend to interview apprentice S. Willis regarding her use of the whip.
 
READY TO THUNDER – Raced wide throughout.
 
 
Race 6: TOYOTA COROLLA Open Handicap 1380m
 
VINASTA – Bumped with KUZCO LAD at the start.
 
WRECKING BALL – Race wide throughout. Approaching the 100m was shifted to the inside of WAITAKERE and the outside of VINASTA, a short distance later WAITAKERE shifted in marginally resulting in WRECKING BALL having to be steadied and as a result was unable to be tested by the rider when held up on heels over the final 50m.
 
KUZCO LAD – Bumped with VINASTA at the start.
 
BLONDE’S DAY OUT – Slow into stride.
