Race 1: BEAUDESERT SOFT DRINKS MAIDEN PLATE – 1400M

ENTER SANDMAN – Began awkwardly.

THE DARK PASSENGER – Laid in over the concluding stages.

HE’LL BE RIGHT – Slow to begin. When questioned as to her riding, apprentice F. Elliott stated that after being slow to begin, she rode the gelding along in an effort to improve its position. App Elliott added that near the 900m the gelding improved on to the heels of EXPECTED TOBEGREAT and had to be steadied and lost ground. She added that the gelding then commenced to hang out and continued to do so for the remainder of the event, which prevented her from riding it out with her usual vigour in the home straight. Whilst noting the racing manners of the gelding, stewards reminded apprentice Elliott of her obligation to report anything which may have affected the performance of her mount. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer G. Hardy was advised that the gelding must officially trial prior to being permitted to race again.

PALMER – Slow to begin.

PEQUENINOS – Slow to begin. Cast the off hind plate in running.

RAH RAH BOY – Had to be steadied to avoid the heels of the tiring INTEGRITY near the 400m and lost ground.

ELEGANTLY – Reared as the start was effected and lost substantial ground and then raced ungenerously and trailed the field throughout. Trainer T. Green indicated that the horse will be retired, however was advised by stewards that should it again race it must compete in an official trial.

INTEGRITY – Raced three wide throughout without cover. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer D. Stafford was advised that the horse would be ineligible to compete at provincial meetings until such time as it establishes competitive country form. Mr Stafford advised stewards that he would recommend to connections that the horse now be retired.

JACKY LEGS – Raced wide throughout.

Race 2: XXXX QTIS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

The start of this race was delayed when CATENACCIO was very fractious in the barriers, resulting in R. Wiggins sustaining an injury. As a result, CATENACCIO was declared a late scratching at 12.38 pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on CATENACCIO be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

6 cents in the dollar for the Win #8
7 cents in the dollar for place of winner #8
5 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #2
9 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #6

Trainer R. Heathcote’s stable representative was advised that CATENACCIO must obtain a further barrier certificate prior to being permitted to race again. R. Wiggins was unable to fulfil his remaining engagements due to injury and riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Wiggins was advised that he will be required to produce a medical clearance prior to resuming riding.

AEROJET – Had to be checked and lost ground approaching the 900m when tightened for room between TOO GOOD TO REFUSE and ELUSIVE ELEMENT, which shifted in. Apprentice R. Johnston-Bell, the rider of ELUSIVE ELEMENT, was found guilty to a charge of careless riding in that he permitted his mount to shift in approaching the 900m when insufficiently clear of AEROJET. Apprentice R. Johnston-Bell’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, to commence at midnight on Sunday 5 July and expire at midnight on Friday 17 July 2015.

D. Griffin reported that his intention was to take up a position close to the speed, however the gelding, after beginning only fairly, was slow to muster speed. Jockey Griffin noted that this had become a regular trait of the gelding being slow to muster in the early stages and he was of the view that it will now be sent for a spell.

RALPH THE DRAGON – Overraced in the early stages and near the 600m improved on to the heels of another runner, shifted out and raced three wide from that point onwards.

OLD TEX – Began awkwardly and shifted in. Apprentice L. Dittman was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 300m, when attempting to improve to the outside of CAPTAIN ADRIATIC where there was insufficient room to do so as a result of BELLA SONG racing to the outside of OLD TEX, he directed his mount away from the heels of CAPTAIN ADRIATIC and in doing so shifted out when insufficiently clear of BELLA SONG, which had to be checked. Apprentice L. Dittman’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 6 meetings, to commence at midnight on Sunday 12 July and expire at midnight on Friday 24 July 2015.

BELLA SONG - Checked and lost ground near the 300m.

TOO GOOD TO REFUSE – Slow to begin, tightened for room shortly after the start by OLD TEX. Had to be steadied approaching the 900m after being bumped by AEROJET.

ELUSIVE ELEMENT – Slow to begin.

STITCHEN TIME – Apprentice A. Fancourt was fined $200 for failing to ride her mount out to the end of the race. In assessing penalty Stewards could not be satisfied that App. Fancourt’s actions cost her mount 3rd place.

Race 3: BARRIER REEF POOLS F&M CLASS 3 PLATE – 1050M

MATIGNON – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

MALIBU DANCER – Slow to begin. T. Bell reported that his mount was held up over the concluding stages and unable to be fully tested.

KENTUCKY CHICK – Slow to begin.

ASSERTORY – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

WIGGLE WIGGLE – Began awkwardly.

Race 4: DORN WEDDING ANNIVERSARY C,G&E CLASS 3 PLATE – 1050M

RUSTIC PLAY – When questioned regarding her tactics, apprentice A. Fancourt stated that she attempted to ride forward and cross LIBERATION in the early stages, however once she was unable to cross that runner, she steadied the gelding. Ms Fancourt added that she had been instructed to not overly restrain the gelding as it was one-paced and for that reason she was content to race forward of LIBERATION during the middle stages. Stewards advised apprentice Fancourt that she would have been better suited making greater effort to restrain the gelding in the early stages so as to sit off LIBERATION.

FORGOTTEN YEARS – Bumped with another runner on jumping away.

LEAD THE WAY – Bumped with another runner on jumping away. Raced wide throughout. T. Bell reported that his mount hung out throughout.

MOE’S TAVERN – Bled both nostrils, first time. Ineligible to race for 3 months and before starting again must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward.

Race 5: RAILWAY HOTEL BM70 H'CAP – 1650M

The start was delayed when UP AND ABLAZE, which was fractious in the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to start.

WRITER – When questioned regarding the horse’s improved performance, trainer D. Stafford stated that the gelding did not appreciate racing on a rain-affected track at its last start at Beaudesert and that at the start before, when first up, it was caught 4 wide throughout.

EMPRESS ME – Slow to begin.

LANDALE – Hung out passing the winning post on the first occasion.

UP AND ABLAZE - A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

TAZI ARAZI – Compounded from a point leaving the 500m. When questioned regarding his tactics, apprentice R. Johnston-Bell stated that he had ridden the gelding previously and its customary racing pattern was to lead. Apprentice Johnston-Bell added that when positioned outside of LANDALE in the early stages, he elected to push forward in an effort to cross that runner so as to comply with his instructions. He added that he was able to cross that runner near the 1000m, after which he was satisfied that the horse relaxed and then set a moderate tempo in the middle stages. Stewards advised apprentice Johnston-Bell that he had erred in his decision to press forward of LANDALE, which resulted in the horse having to work too hard during the early and middle stages, which contributed to it weakening over the final 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 6: QPSIG CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1400M

The start was delayed when ELEMENTAL BOY had to be resaddled.

The announcement of correct weight was delayed to allow D. Griffin, the rider of 3rd placegetter LEGAL COUNSEL, to view the patrol footage to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge an objection against 2nd placegetter OH MY ROCKET near the 200m. Upon reviewing the film, jockey Griffin realised that the interference was as a result of BIG GREEN PONY shifting out and elected not to proceed with an objection.

BIG GREEN PONY – Bumped by another runner shortly after the start. Shifted out under pressure near the 200m and bumped OH MY ROCKET.

CASHINKO – Bumped on jumping away.

HARNILIAM – Bumped on jumping away.

LEGAL COUNSEL – Bumped by OH MY ROCKET leaving the 200m.

OH MY ROCKET – Connections advised that from the good alley the horse would be ridden just off the speed. Ridden accordingly. Bumped by another runner near the 200m.

BLACKJACK PRINCESS – Slow to begin.

CHEEKYBOI – Began awkwardly and bumped another runner.

HE’S DIRT CHEAP – Shifted in shortly after the start and bumped BIG GREEN PONY.

MEANJIN – When questioned regarding his tactics, apprentice S. Payne stated he was instructed to obtain a forward position today. He added that after obtaining a forward position in the early stages, the gelding commenced to race strongly and he was reluctant to overly restrain it and as such allowed it to improve to the inside of BIG GREEN PONY passing the 800m. Apprentice Payne agreed with stewards that he had erred in his riding of the gelding at this point and would have been better served steadying his mount so as to allow BIG GREEN PONY to cross forward of him thereby providing him with cover.

Race 7: HAPPY 70TH BIRTHDAY HANS CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1300M

SUNSET HILLS – Lost the near fore plate in running.

CHOC MOUNTAIN – A post-race veterinary examination revealed abrasions to both fore fetlocks. Stewards opened an inquiry into the running and handling of CHOC MOUNTAIN. After taking evidence from jockey T. Bell and trainer B. Ahrens, stewards adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed so as to allow them to review the gelding’s previous racing pattern.

CANNY EXCEL – Slow to begin.

FOREGONE – Raced three wide without cover throughout.

Race 8: BEAUDESERT TIMES RATINGS BAND 0-62 H'CAP – 1200M

ISN’T HE A BEAUTY – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped LAUGH A LITTLE. Overraced in the early stages.
