ISN’T HE A BEAUTY – Slow to begin. Commenced to hang out rounding the first turn out of the home straight and continued to do so for the remainder of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken. Trainer B. Currie was advised that horse must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial before being permitted to start again.

CHAOTIC ART – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout.

IRISH WINE – Bumped on jumping away.

GOOD GRACIOUS MAE – Fractious in the barriers. Slow to begin after its barrier gate was momentarily slow to open. Stewards were satisfied that this did not have a material effect on the horse’s overall finishing position and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings. Had to be steadied from heels near the 900m when overracing.

HIT THE HIGHLIGHTS – Bumped shortly after the start and became unbalanced.

LOFN – Trainer K. Schweida advised that with the blinkers on, the horse would be ridden in a forward position if circumstances permit. T. Harrison reported that it was her intention to take up a forward position, however after being tightened for room shortly after the start settled further back than she anticipated. Had to be steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of CHAOTIC ART near the 900m.

SHORELINE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped HIT THE HIGHLIGHTS.

SIENA HEIGHTS – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Inconvenienced and obliged to shift back to the inside near the 200m.

WHISPERING WINGS – Shifted out on jumping away and bumped IRISH WINE.

Race 3: QPS INVESTMENT GROUP CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1200M

REAL ROCKER – Slow to begin.

CHOUPETTE – Slow to begin. Raced three wide without cover throughout.

MORINGA’S TOOTSIE – As J. Morris was to be overweight, T. Treichel was substituted as the rider of this runner. J. Morris was fined $200. Hung out rounding the home turn.

Race 4: BEAUDESERT SOFT DRINKS F&M MAIDEN H'CAP – 1200M

QUINTANA – Trainer K. Waller was fined $100 for failing to declare apprentice R. Payne as the rider by the prescribed time. Raced 4 wide without cover in the early stages.

SHE’S REAL – Had to be checked when tightened for room shortly after the start and lost significant ground. Raced greenly throughout and hung out rounding the home turn.

SUGAR DOLL – Began awkwardly, shifted out and made heavy contact with SAINTSKI, which in turn shifted out and made heavy contact with CASINO MOON.

TOP STORY – Commenced to weaken leaving the 600m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer S. Jones reported that the filly would now be sent for a spell, however Mr Jones was advised that the filly would be required to officially trial prior to starting again.

SHE’S A UNIT – Slow to begin.

ASPEN STREET – Shifted out upon straightening and bumped CASINO MOON.

SAINTSKI – Raced wide throughout. On return to scale the mare was found to have bled from both nostrils during the race. SAINTSKI will be ineligible to race for 3 months, and prior to starting again must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward.

ANGEL OF LIBERTY – Slow to begin. Steadied from the heels of the weakening TOP STORY near the 500m.

CASINO MOON – Had to be checked when tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground. Bumped upon straightening. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

JORJA’S JET – Bumped near the 100m and became unbalanced.

HIGH COST – Inclined to hang in when weakening near the 100m, shifted in tightening the running of JORJA’S JET, which was placed in restricted room and made contact with the running rail.

TRE BROWN – J. Morris was fined $200 for weighing in in excess of half a kilogram overweight.

GLAMORGAN BOY – Began awkwardly and lost ground. In the incident the left knee of rider S. Drake made contact with the barrier partition. Following the event, jockey Drake was cleared by ambulance attendants to fulfil her remaining engagement. Hung out during the middle stages.

HE’LL BE RIGHT – Raced wide in the early stages. B. Powell was reprimanded for his use of the whip on a horse out of contention.

HELLO HARRA – Had to be steadied from heels of TRE BROWN approaching the winning post when that runner shifted in when tiring. J. Morris, the rider of TRE BROWN, was advised to exercise more care. Stewards questioned apprentice R. Jamieson regarding her riding in the home straight. R. Jamieson stated that at the top of the straight she had difficulty obtaining clear running and was reluctant to improve between runners as she was of the view that the horses forward of her were racing greenly at that stage and as a result she was held up for the majority of the home straight and unable to fully test her mount. Stewards noted her explanation.

DANAULAD – Slow to begin.

Race 6: BARRIER REEF POOLS CLASS 3 PLATE – 1050M

CHOC MOUNTAIN – Forced wider on the track rounding the home turn.

SELFIE – Held up rounding the home turn. Obliged to alter course to obtain clear running leaving the 150m.

JOBIWOOD – Raced three wide without cover throughout. Forced wider on the track rounding the home turn.

OUT LATE – Raced wide throughout and rounding the home turn was inconvenienced. Stewards afforded rider T. Harrison an opportunity to comment on her tactics. She indicated that she had been instructed to ride the horse forward with cover, however from a wide gate the gelding failed to show sufficient speed and therefore settled further back than she anticipated.

KATELETTE – Tightened for room on jumping away. Held up approaching the home turn.

Race 7: RAILWAY HOTEL CLASS 4 H'CAP – 1400M

REDHAWKS – Had to be steadied and lost ground when tightened for room shortly after the start between CHAMPAGNE TALES and SOVEREIGN SPIDER, which was inclined to lay in.

COUNTRY COMMAND – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be short striding in all four limbs, sore over the rump and coughing repeatedly. Stewards advised trainer A. Jones that he would be required to produce a veterinary clearance for the mare prior to it being permitted to race again.

LANDALE – Overraced in the early and middle stages. When afforded an opportunity to comment on the seemingly improved performance, trainer K. Hickmott stated that the gelding performs best when able to lead, as was the case today where it began well and found the lead without being pressured. He added that the gelding appreciated the step up to the 1400m of today’s event. Stewards noted his comments.

BLACKJACK PRINCESS – Had to be steadied when tightened for room on jumping away.

Race 8: NERANG RSL PUNTERS CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1400M

T. Harrison, the rider of 4th placegetter WHISPERING TESS, returned to scale in excess of half a kilogram under her allotted weight. Acting under the provisions of AR. 143(a), stewards disqualified WHISPERING TESS from its 4th placing, amended the placings to 1, 9, 6 and 7 and declared correct weight. At a subsequent inquiry, T. Harrison pleaded guilty to a charge under AR. 143(b) and was fined the sum of $800.

PERCULES – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

LEGAL COUNSEL – Steadied near the 400m when awkwardly placed at the heels of ZANY LASS.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer T. Crane undertook to advise stewards should anything come to light in coming days which may have affected the performance.

LEROY’S LUCK – Held up from leaving the 200m for a short distance and was then obliged to shift out to obtain clear running, and then again a short distance later was momentarily steadied when crowded for room approaching the winning post.
