Mr Robinson pleaded guilty to charges under AR. 87 and AR. 87B in that whilst mounted on a horse he did not wear the appropriate gear and was fined the sum of $150 on each count.

GENERAL

As A. Spinks was ill, riding replacements were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

Race 1: BARRIER REEF POOLS QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1300M

I’M BELUCCI – Slow to begin.

MEDAL TALLY – Slow to begin. Finished a considerable distance from the main body of the field. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a breathing irregularity. Trainer B. Robinson was advised that the horse will be ineligible to compete at TAB meetings until such time as its country form improves. Mr Robinson was further advised that the results of an endoscopic examination must be provided before the gelding is permitted to race again.

Race 2: QPSIG MAIDEN H'CAP – 1400M

GALLIC WONDER – Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the event.

STRIKING WARRIOR – Raced wide throughout.

HELLO HARRA – Raced wide throughout.

OUR LITTLE MISSY – Slow to begin.

PRINCESS MAVI – When asked to explain the horse’s performance, rider J. Orman stated that whilst the mare had to do some work to gain a forward position, it was under heavy pressure leaving the 600m and failed to respond to his riding and was very disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer’s representative Mr M. Currie advised stewards that following today’s performance it is the intention that the horse be retired from racing. Nonetheless, Mr Currie was advised that should the mare race again, it must trial to stewards’ satisfaction prior to doing so.

Race 3: RAILWAY HOTEL CLASS 3 PLATE – 1050M

BEYOND THE STORM – Shifted in of its own accord near the 400m, made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.

SIROCAN – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

ALL OUR WIVES – Bounded in the air as the start was effected.

GRAPEVINE – Bumped at the start. When questioned regarding the horse’s performance, rider P. Hammersley stated that he felt the horse had an irregular breathing pattern. A post-race veterinary examination revealed mild soreness in the off foreleg and an irregularity in its breathing. Trainer B. Guy was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to the horse being permitted to race again.

MY BELLA SYN – Began awkwardly and shifted in.

Race 4: TRADE ALLIANCE MAIDEN H'CAP – 1100M

SUPERIOR SUN – Slow into stride. Raced wide throughout.

PORTLAND POWER – Performed poorly. On return to scale rider R. Fradd reported that the horse was awkward in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer R. Drysdale was advised that the gelding will be ineligible to compete at TAB meetings until such time as its country form improves.

TWO FOR THE ROAD – On return to scale, D. Griffin reported that in his opinion the mare felt shin sore. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer S. Jones advised stewards that he would consider sending the mare for a spell. However, he was nonetheless advised that should the horse not be sent for a spell, he will be required to produce a veterinary clearance before the mare races again.

FACE THE SUN – Began awkwardly. Raced three wide without cover.

UNIT – Raced wide throughout.

Race 5: XXXX CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1200M

RABASCO – Had to be steadied from heels when the pace steadied near the 800m.

MORINGA’S TOOTSIE – Began awkwardly and shifted out.

BOOM BOX – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Stewards questioned apprentice J. Orman regarding his riding tactics, particularly the reason for restraining his mount and allowing MEDIA MAID to shift in forward of him approaching the 800m when there appeared to be an opportunity for his mount to improve forward and trail OMNIBUS CHRISTUS, which would have resulted in MEDIA MAID racing three wide throughout. Apprentice Orman stated that he had no specific instructions other than to ride the hors where it was comfortable and after beginning awkwardly the gelding raced further back than he anticipated. He said that he was satisfied to allow MEDIA MAID to shift in at the relevant stage as he was of the opinion trailing that runner would have been the best option. After viewing the available footage, apprentice Orman conceded that he had erred in not making a greater effort to hold his position to the inside of MEDIA MAID. Stewards advised apprentice Orman that they agreed that he had erred, but were of the view that his decision was not so unreasonable as to be culpable under the rules and therefore no direct action was taken other than to advise him not to leave his riding open to question in similar circumstances.

SHOWAMIA – Tightened for room and lost ground at the start.

Race 6: BEAUDESERT SOFT DRINKS CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1400M

BY THE VINES – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

AMAJILL – Blundered on jumping.

OH MY ROCKET – Raced three wide without cover in the early stages.

KARAHARAGA – Raced wide throughout. Had to be steadied near the 900m when OH MY ROCKET (F. Jervis) shifted in when not fully clear. In issuing a reprimand to jockey Jervis, stewards took into account that prior to the incident, COCKTAIL THONG had shifted out, making contact with KARAHARAGA, which was overracing badly.

LONYX – Slow to begin.

COCKTAIL THONG – Had to be steadied near the 650m to avoid the heels of OH MY ROCKET, which shifted in. F. Jervis, the rider of OH MY ROCKET, was reprimanded and advised to allow more room to runners when shifting ground.

Race 7: TONY HANDLEY RATINGS BAND 0-62 H'CAP – 1650M

The start was delayed when SANSHO DAYU proved difficult to load and was fractious in the barriers. Trainer F. Adams was advised that a further barrier certificate must be obtained for the horse before it is permitted to start again.

The start was further delayed when UP AND ABLAZE took fright and broke through the front of the barriers. The horse was restrained after travelling a short distance, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

TANGARA – Raced wide in the early stages.

ALL IN TIME – Slow to begin.

DINA’S DRAGON – Had to be steadied from heels rounding the turn out of the straight on the first occasion.

STIGORI – Raced wide throughout.

GLAMORGAN BABE – Commenced to overrace approaching the winning post and rounding the first turn, shifted out and then raced in restricted room to the inside of UP AND ABLAZE, which shifted in slightly. S. Eilbeck (UP AND ABLAZE) was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

MAJESTIC SOUND – Raced wide in the early and middle stages before improving forward and obtaining the lead leaving the 800m.
