HYDE – Slow to begin. Held up and unable to improve between the 400m and the home turn. In the presence of senior rider T Brooker, Stewards questioned apprentice E Lang over tactics adopted in the early stages of the event, particularly her decision to shift to the inside of ASSERTIN LADY near 600m which resulted in HYDE being positioned on the fence and being ultimately held up for some distance thereafter. Apprentice Lang advised instructions were for the horse to be ridden conservatively in the early stages, adding that she was also conscious that she did not want to be caught racing wide when improving into the race. In acknowledging that apprentice Lang had attempted to comply with instructions, Stewards nonetheless were of the opinion she had erred in not maintaining a one wide position approaching 600m. Bearing in mind E Lang’s’ limited provincial race riding experience, Stewards noted her explanation.
