GENERAL
Upon arrival at the course, Stewards identified a soft section of the track between approximately the 1020m and 980m. Prior to the running of race 1, following a track inspection by Stewards and a delegation of senior riders, the track was declared suitable for racing.
 
 
Race 1: NQ DRY TROPICS BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1000M
 
TORQUE SENSATION – Tightened for room on jumping away between MR TANGLES and WILD CHILD which jumped out resulting in TORQUE SENSATION losing ground.
 
MIDAS STAR – When asked to comment on the performance, jockey G. Kliese stated that whilst his mount travelled well throughout the race, he felt that when he was unable to cross SHEEZ MARVELOUS and dictate the speed of the race, that this had an effect on MIDAS STAR’ overall finishing performance. G. Kliese was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using the whip on six (6) occasions prior to the 100m, being one more than permitted. G. Kliese was cautioned regarding his whip action in raising his arm above shoulder height.
 
MR TANGLES – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 2: CLEANSKIN WELDING QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1100M
 
BOOM RAPTURE – Jumped out abruptly at the start and as a result lost ground.
 
CHAMPAGNE TILLY – Inclined in lay in over the concluding stages.
 
MISHANI TYCOON – Slow to begin. Jockey A. Sewell reported that his mount was inclined to hang in under pressure in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out over the final 100m.
 
 
Race 3: WE3 GROUP BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP 1200M
 
BOOM RANGA – Began awkwardly.
 
PLUCKERCARN – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages.
 
BETTER NOT FUSS – Over raced in the early stages.
 
THE ABYSS (NZ) – Crowded for room and lost ground at the start between RUPERT’S BOY and POLARMORE PRINCESS which jumped in.
 
TELMESOMETHIN’GIRL – Approaching the 600m improved onto the heels of BLACK’N’DEADLY which lost ground suddenly when hanging out, resulting in TELMESOMETHIN’GIRL clipping heels and blundering.
 
RUPERT’S BOY – Slow to begin.
 
BLACK’N’DEADLY – Jockey A. Butler reported that his mount commenced to hang out badly from the 800m and proved extremely difficult to control for the remainder of the race and was inclined to race greenly in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer T. Button was advised that BLACK’N’DEADLY would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards before being permitted to race again.
 
LAUDEYLOU – Raced wide.
 
POLARMORE PRINCESS – Jumped in at the start. Raced wide.
 
 
Race 4: BOWEN TYRE & MECHANICAL CLASS 3 PLATE 1280M
 
FLUTTERING – Bumped at the start and lost ground.
 
HARVESTA – Jumped awkwardly. When asked to comment on the performance, jockey C. Spry stated that the gelding was having its first run in four weeks and that while his mount travelled comfortably, in his opinion HARVESTA would be better suited over shorter distances and ridden with cover.
 
RECONDITE (IRE) – Jumped awkwardly and shifted in bumping FLUTTERING. Passing the 100m had to be momentarily steadied when THE SHERPA laid in under pressure.
 
THE SHERPA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
PRIVATE SECTOR – Slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
MISTER SELFIE – Jumped awkwardly and shifted out forcing CASTILE wider on the track. When questioned regarding the performance of MISTER SELFIE, jockey P. Cullen stated that his mount shifted out abruptly at the start and after riding forward his mount was inclined to hang out and at a point near the 900m, shifted out towards to outside running rail and continued to hang out for the remainder of the event, and took no further competitive part in the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer T. Button was advised that the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of the stewards before being permitted to race again.
 
 
Race 5: LIBERTY RURAL COUNTRY CUPS CHALLENGE QUALIFIER / MANGO CUP OPEN HANDICAP 1470M
 
STARSONIC – Raced keenly in the early stages. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice B. Johnson stated her mount travelled well for a majority of the race, however when placed under pressure approaching home turn, the gelding failed to respond to her riding and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.
 
LOVE ON SUNDAY – Raced wide throughout. Near the 100m was momentarily steadied between WREN’S DAY (USA) and SAVVY LEGEND which shifted in under pressure. Jockey A. Sewell the rider of SAVVY LEGEND was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.
 
SUCH A WHIT – Hampered at the start and lost ground.
 
 
Race 6: HILLERY GROUP BOWEN CUP BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1810M
 
The start of this event was delayed when MEDAL (NZ) reared, becoming cast in the barriers and was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 4.41pm. On the declaration of correct weight, stewards ordered that all monies invested on MEDAL be refunded and the following deductions to apply on all successful bets:
 
1st HIGHER LOVE – 37c win, 31c place
2nd HEALING GAME – 31c place
 
A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bruising to the left eye and lacerations to the left torso. Trainer S. Bush was advised that MEDAL would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again as well as a veterinary clearance.
 
HEALING GAME – Near the 150m shifted out abruptly under pressure, which required the rider to stop riding and straighten.
 
LETS TORQUE A DEEL – Apprentice B. Johnson reported on scale that she felt that the gelding did not back up from it’s most recent start at Home Hill on 12 October.
