GENERAL
 
Stewards inquired into a complaint lodged by trainer K. Russell in relation to a verbal altercation with jockey D. Smith after the running of race 1 in the mounting yard. After hearing evidence and taking into consideration mitigating circumstances, Stewards reminded both parties of their obligations regarding conduct on race day.
 
 
Race 1: JO SHEPHERD BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP         1280 M
 
TEMPO (NZ) – Began awkwardly.
 
TYCOON BABY – Lost the offside hind plate and was attended to by the farrier in the tie-ups. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was passed fit to start. Laid in at the top of the home straight.
 
COLLOMBATTI – Laid in at the top of the straight. In the vicinity of the 250m, when changing his whip to the inside, jockey D. Smith dropped the inside rein which allowed his mount to shift out for several strides into the running line of MISS FUBULICIOUS which subsequently clipped heels and became unbalanced as jockey D.Smith attempted to regather the dropped rein. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
AIDENABET – Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
MISS FUBULICIOUS – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages. In the vicinity of the 250m, clipped the heels of COLLOMBATTI who was shifting out and became unbalanced and subsequently took no further competitive part in the event.  Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
PICTON – In the vicinity of the 250m, became awkwardly placed on the heels of COLLOMBATTI who was shifting out.
 
BOLD ZIP – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 2: EMILY HARVEY QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP         1000 M
 
I'LLTELLYOUGO – Jumped inwards bumping SNEAKY FREDDY. Raced greenly early.
 
SNEAKY FREDDY – Jumped outwards bumping I’LLTELLYOUGO. Over raced in the early stages.
 
HAND GRENADE – Raced greenly in the home straight.
 
SEWN UP – Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
 
Race 3: ADAM MCGRATH MAIDEN HANDICAP         1000 M
 
RUBICKS CHOICE – Shifted out shortly after the start and commenced to buck for a short distance placing it at a severe disadvantage. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer S. Bush was advised that RUBICKS CHOICE must trial or jump-out to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to resuming.
 
KEEP ON RUNNING – Raced three wide for the majority.
 
VOLARCHI – Bumped by SUPER CHEAP which shifted out on jumping, then taken outwards and hampered FAIRYBOWER FLYER.
 
CHUCKA TANTY – Trainer J. Manzelmann was reprimanded pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider for the mare by the prescribed time. Tightened shortly after the start when RUBICKS CHOICE shifted out.
 
ENUFF FOR ME – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to not having started in an extended period and was passed fit to start. In the vicinity of the 900m began to over race when awkwardly placed on the heels of KEEP ON RUNNING. Raced three wide. Laid in over the concluding stages. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
FAIRYBOWER FLYER – Hampered by VOLARCHI when SUPER CHEAP shifted out on jumping, taking VOLARCHI outwards.
 
HEAD BEE – Over raced early.
 
SUPER CHEAP – Shifted out on jumping, bumping VOLARCHI which was taken outwards and hampered FAIRYBOWER FLYER.
 
TAKING STEPS – Trainer T. Kenny was reprimanded pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider for the mare by the prescribed time. Began awkwardly. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Kenny was advised that in light of the mares poor performance, TAKING STEPS must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to resuming.
 
THUNDERBIRD – Restrained momentarily when RUBICKS CHOICE commenced to buck to its inside. Laid in over the concluding stages.
 
TSUNAMI FORCE – Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 4: DARRYL O'CONNELL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP         1000 M
 
NORTHERN PRIDE – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
STRATHCONA – Raced three wide throughout.
 
FINAL WARNING – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to not having started in an extended period, was passed fit to start.
 
ALTAR BOY – Bumped with LET’S RIDE on jumping.
 
CHALKLEY –In the vicinity of the 150m, shifted in when struck with the whip before being corrected by its rider. Upon re-entry to the mounting yard post-race, contacted the rail. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
KIHI – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
LET'S RIDE – Bumped with ALTAR BOY on jumping. Jockey J. Murphy reported at scale that his mount raced flat and was disappointing when asked for an effort in the home straight. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
ELVIARE – Was uncompetitive and tailed the field throughout. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer T. Simmons was advised that in light of the geldings poor performance, ELVIARE must trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to resuming.
 
FLAMING ASTEROID – Trainer J. Manzelmann was reprimanded pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to declare a rider for the gelding by the prescribed time.
 
 
Race 5: WALLY GROOCOCK OPEN HANDICAP         1200 M
 
BONES – Raced wide throughout. Approaching the 800m, raced in restricted room momentarily when KISS ME LATER laid in and made contact for a number of strides. Approaching the 400 brushed with KISS ME LATER and then elected to shift to the outside to gain clear running.
 
VENTURA OCEAN (IRE) – Bumped with MALVAGIO on jumping. Over raced early. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
KISS ME LATER – When questioned regarding the poor performance of KISS ME LATER, jockey A. Layt stated that his mount lost momentum early and was inclined to lay in. Approaching the 800m, laid in momentarily before being corrected by its rider, and as a result made contact with BONES who was obliged to race in restricted room for a number of strides. Proceeded to race wide without cover throughout and had a tendency to lay in. Approaching the 400m brushed with BONES for a number of strides. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
CAPTAIN BOND – Presented to race without the surcingle. Trainer L. Gordy was fined the sum of $200 pursuant to AR106(1). Began awkwardly.
 
MALVAGIO – Bumped with VENTURA OCEAN (IRE) on jumping.
 
 
Race 6: BEN KEATING CLASS 1 HANDICAP         1200 M
 
The start of this event was delayed approximately 2 minutes to allow for the veterinary examination of FLAMING HOMER.
 
MAKE IT FLASHY – Shifted in shortly after the start. Apprentice Semmens dropped her whip near the 250m. Hung in under pressure in the home straight, despite the best efforts of its rider, resulting in the runners to the inside being tightened.
 
FLAMING HOMER – When entering the gates, contacted the partition. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination at the barriers and was passed fit to start.
 
ELLIE'S DREAM – Over raced early.
 
LUCIA MARIA – Raced three wide without cover. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages when BRAVE MISSILE was carried in by MAKE IT FLASHY who was laying. Approaching the finishing post, became awkwardly placed on the heels of BRAVE MISSILE who shifted in.
 
PRIVATE SECTOR – Approaching the 800m commenced to over race when the tempo of the race slackened. Inside the 100m was disappointed for a run between VIBURNUM which shifted out at the same time LUCIA MARIA shifted in.
 
BRAVE MISSILE – Approaching the 800m commenced to over race when the tempo of the race slackened. Raced three wide with cover. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages when MAKE IT FLASHY laid in.
 
 
Race 7:STEPHEN & HELEN DALEY BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP    1470 M
 
FORSETI – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
VANDANGLE – Raced three wide throughout.
 
FLUTTERING – Bumped with ZOUHOPE who shifted out on jumping.
 
ZOUHOPE – Shifted out and bumped FLUTTERING on jumping. Approaching the 1000m, commenced to over race when the tempo of the race slackened. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ZAKHEERA – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
HUNUA HANK (NZ) – Over raced during the early stages of the event.
