RACE 1: HALF WAY THERE SHIN DIG CLASS B HCAP 1200M-
MUDCRAB - Began awkwardly.
BOLD TEMPTATION- Clipped heels and blundered approaching the 1100m. At a subsequent inquiry App. A Thompson (MUBCRAB), in the presence of senior rider C Bryen, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that approaching the 1100m he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in resulting in RENEWING HOPE being forced inwards which resulted in BOLD TEMPTATION, which was following, clipping heels and blundering. App. Thompson’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days commencing midnight 14 July 2018 and to expire midnight 22 July 2018.
RENEWING HOPE- Checked for some distance when awkwardly placed at heels passing the 1000m. At a subsequent inquiry App. A Thompson (MUBCRAB), in the presence of senior rider C Bryen, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that for some distance passing the 1000m he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in resulting in RENEWING HOPE being checked for some distance to avoid heels. App. Thompson’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days commencing midnight 14 July 2018 and to expire midnight 22 July 2018. Stewards ordered this suspension to be served concurrently with suspension App. Thompson incurred early in this race.
App. N. Morton (RENEWING HOPE) was reminded of her obligations to ride her mount out to the finish.
RACE 2: BOOKMAKER’S MAIDEN PLATE 1200M
AUSSIE AS- Raced wide throughout.
RACE 3: ANNIVERSARY BENCHMARK 65 HCAP 1000 M
ISSY COMMAND- Began awkwardly. Rider accidently dropped her whip passing the 200m.
DUKE OF YORK- Momentarily forced to steady when placed in restricted room near the 600m.
POLAR BLITZ- Momentarily forced to steady when placed in restricted room near the 600m.
UNDER THE EAVES- Blundered of jumping and was then tightened for room shortly after the start.
RACE 4: NEVILLE GREEN MEMORIAL RATINGS 0-60 HCAP 1400M
KING OF ROSSA - was declared a late scratching at 3:00pm due to no rider being available.
GRAVITY FORCE- Stood flat footed at the start and lost ground.
PARANA- Slow to muster speed, raced wide throughout and laid in under pressure in the home straight.
CHATARA- Laid in during the event and race wide throughout.
RACE 5: LES BAKER MEMORIAL RACE TO ROMA QUALIFIER OPEN HCAP 1400M
As App. J Brand was to be overweight, she was replaced as the rider of MOHAKA RIVER by Jockey J Rudd as no other apprentices were available. App. Brand was fined $100.
DENNIS DENUTO- Raced wide throughout.
CRAWFISH- Steadied from heels shortly after the start.
DE VILLIERS – Trainer L. Baker explained that the gelding was having its second start for this stable, with its only other start in his care being over an unsuitable distance. He added for that reason he stepped the gelding up in distance for todays event, which he felt was to its advantage. He went on to say that the geldings poor recent form was when racing on grass surfaces and in his opinion when racing back on a sand surface today, was a contributing factor to the horses improved performance.
