RACE 1: NORTH WEST QUEENSLAND PAINTING Class B Handicap - 1000m
TARGET STRIKE – Prior to proceeding to the mounting yard the gelding became fractious and escaped its handler before being regathered by the clerks of the course. A subsequent veterinary examination cleared the gelding to start in the race. Began awkwardly and shifted inwards bumping another runner.
CZARIST – Behind the barriers prior to the start the gelding took an awkward stride, stumbled and dislodged its rider S. McGovern. After travelling half the course the gelding was regathered in the mount yard was ordered by the steward to be a late scratching at 1.40pm. Prior to the declaration of correct weight the steward ordered bets placed on CZARIST be refunded in full and all winning bets to be subject to the deductions of 6c on win and 8c on place bets on the face value of the ticket. The gelding underwent a post-race veterinary examination and no abnormalities were found.
DENLAGO – Bumped by another runner at the start and was subsequently slow to begin.
HIDONAL – Slow to begin.
SCIOLTA – Raced wide throughout the event.
RACE 2: LEICHHART HOTEL MOTEL Class 3 Plate - 1000m
ALBERT THE ROCKET – J. Esser was permitted to ride the gelding two kilograms over its allotted weight as no other suitable rider was available. Began awkwardly and was subsequently slow to begin.
TEMPESTA ROSSA – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start.
VALDERON – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Began awkwardly and subsequently lost ground.
ALLUDER – Raced wide throughout the event.
CODE ONE – Proved difficult to load in the barriers prior to the start. Race wide throughout the event.
RACE 3: NIVERAK SMASH REPAIRS Maiden Plate 1200m
LAGER – Rider S. McGovern reported that the gelding commenced to hang out from approximately the 800m and proved difficult to ride in the early stages of the home straight.
CRATLOE – Slow to begin. Resented the kickback in running and finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
WATTO’S JET – J. Esser was permitted to ride the gelding one kilogram over its allotted weight by the steward as no other suitable rider was available.
OAKFIELD SUNSET – Raced wide throughout the event.
RACE 4: MC BOOTH CONTRACTING ELECTRICAL RB 0-55 Handicap 1200m
MOSS PRINCESS – Buffeted between runners on jumping and was subsequently slow to begin.
CRAIGLEA SWIFT – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout the event.
RACE 5: BELL RURAL CONTRACTING Class 6 Plate 1200m
YOUR WAY OR MINE – J. Esser was permitted to ride the gelding one and a half kilograms over its allotted weight as no other suitable rider was available. Resented the kickback in running.
GULLY GOSH – Resented the kickback in running.
JETTY BETTY – K. Ballard was permitted to ride the mare a half kilogram over its allotted weight as no other suitable rider was available. Slow into stride.
WICKED WIKI – Race wide throughout the event.
