General
Rider G Steele who was unable to attend today’s meeting due to illness will require a medical clearance prior to resuming race riding. Rider changes were made as per the Stewards race day summary.
 
Due to technical difficulties a reflected photo finish image was unable to be obtained for Races 1 and 2. Prior to declaration of Correct Weight on both races Stewards acting under the provisions of AR214 consulted with Judge Mr D Chaplain and also afforded connections the opportunity to view the available prints.
 
Race 1: MAIDEN PLATE 1000m

THE MARSHALL - Raced the previous day at Longreach and underwent a veterinary examination  prior to today’s race and was passed fit to race.
 
GREY ARTEMIS – Jumped outwards making contact with AUNTY SNOW.
 
AUNTY SNOW – Bumped by another runner on jumping.
 
CATE RULES -   Jumped outwards making contact with ISA PRINCESS.
 
ISA PRINCESS - Bumped by another runner on jumping and slow into stride.
 
Race 2: CLASS 4 PLATE 1000m.
 
LORD MAL was a late scratching at 7.50am when Trainer J Jackson advised the gelding had injured its near fore leg. Mr Jackson was advised a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required prior to next start.
 
ENCORONADA  - Apprentice T Townsend was a late riding engagement. Trainer J. Bowden was fined $100 for late rider engagement (LR 67). Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
MISSED OUT -  Commenced to over race near the 700m.
 
HOLOGRAM  - Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
HUNTING  -  Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
 

Race 3: BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP 1000m
 
IMAPOET – Fractious in barriers prior to start. Shifted outwards near the 800m hampering  SERIOUSLY HAPPY (J Felix) which began racing ungenerously and was taken outwards onto TOSS A COIN (M Gray) which in turn hampered  BELAR BLUE (J Esser). Jockey McGovern was issued with a severe reprimand  for careless riding under AR131(a).
 
SERIOUSLY HAPPY – Slowly away. Shortly after start commenced racing ungenerously when hampered by another runner.    
 
NO HAT NO PLAY  - Began awkwardly and shortly afterwards was restrained and taken wide to avoid heels.
 
BELAR BLUE  - Hampered soon after the start and raced wide most of the way.          
 
TOSS OF A COIN – Slowly away. Raced in restricted room for a short distance after the start. 
 
NITRO CITY – Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
DUTCH TWIST -  Raced wide most of the way.   
 

Race 4: BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP 1200m

HIDDEN CHIEF – Jumped inwards making contact with HICKSON.
 
HICKSON – Bumped by another runner on jumping. Began racing ungenerously near the 900m. Raced wide most of the way. 
 
EXPLOSIVE MISSILE - Raced wide rounding the home turn.
 
WALLACH – When questioned in relation to the performance trainer S Royes advised that after beginning well today the gelding had been able to lead as opposed to its previous start when it was slowly away after beginning awkwardly, and as a consequence was caught behind runners, refusing to stretch out due to resenting the kickback in running. Stewards noted the explanation   

Race 5: BENCHMARK 45 HANDICAP 1400m

AYLA’S ANGEL – Commenced to over race near the 1200m. 
 
GOT THE TICKETS  - Restrained off heels  near the 1000m. 
 
NICCONI PASQUALE  -  Raced wide most of the way.

UNDER RESTRAINT  Raced wide most of the way. 
 
TELLING STORIES -  Finished tailed off. Rider J Esser advised the gelding did not respond to his riding at any stage of the race and he could offer no reason for the effort.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
