Race 1: Archer River Roadhouse/Exchange Hotel Maiden Plate 1000 metres:
1st – AHOTONE 2nd – CHANGEINTHEFORTUNE 3rd – I’M RURRBELLIOUS 4th – DECLAN STYLE

CHANGEINTHEFORTUNE – Jockey S Wilson reported that the saddle shifted approaching the home turn placing him at a disadvantage. Bumped with another runner approaching the winning post.

I’M RURRBELLIOUS – Attempted to jump a section of discoloured turf near the 100 metres placing Jockey S Kaya at a disadvantage.

AHOTONE – Bumped with another runner approaching the winning post.

DECLAN STYLE – Was caught wide without cover for the majority of the event.

ANGEL HOTEL – App. N Nelson reported that the mare which was having its initial race start had been inclined to race greenly throughout and had resented the kickback in running.

Race 2: Bramwell Station Benchmark 50 Handicap 1000 metres:
1st – LA JINETA 2nd – FRENCHENKA 3rd – BOOM BOX 4th – GENERAL BEEJAY

FRENCHENKA – Was slowly into stride after bumping with another runner at the start. Raced wide rounding the home turn.

LA JINETA – Bumped with another runner on jumping. Raced wide without cover throughout.

SCNELLES PFERD – Raced wide in the early and middle stages.

Race 3: Tyrepower Cooktown Bracelet Benchmark 65 Handicap 1000 metres:
1st – ISADOR AMORE 2nd – ROSE OF CLARE 3rd – BESIEGED 4th – RAPT IN RUMBA

RAPT IN RUMBA - Raced wide in the early and middle stages. Shifted in marginally near the 500 metres causng minor inconvenience to another runner. Jockey F Edwards was instructed to exercise more care.

ROSE OF CLARE – Near the 500 metres had to be steadied off the heels of another runner which shifted in marginally.

Race 4: Cooktown Hardware QTIS Class 1 Handicap 1290 metres:
1st – MAKING HEADLINES 2nd – VENCEREMOS 3rd – RACING IN THE WIND 4th – DAZZLING LADY

DUKE CELESTE was withdrawn by order of Stewards at 10:45am as no suitable rider was available.


SERIKOS FLYER was withdrawn on Veterinary advice at 2:09pm after taking fright during the preliminary and throwing itself down in the mounting enclosure. Prior to the declaration of Correct Weight Stewards ordered that all monies wagered on SERIKOS FLYER be refunded in full and further, that all successful wagers placed on the event prior to 2:09pm be subject to deductions of 20 cents in the dollar win and 21 cents in the dollar place on the face value of the betting ticket. Jockey Stephen Wilson was uninjured in the incident and was able to fulfil his remaining engagements on the program. The mare was inspected by the Veterinarian and was found to be lame in the near hind leg. Trainer’s Representative Mr. P Rowe was advised that a Veterinary Clearance would be required prior to the mare being permitted to race again.

MAXIRODS – Was slowly into stride. Raced wide rounding the home turn.

RACING IN THE WIND – Was slowly into stride. Jockey N Yadi reported that the gelding was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.

RYLEE’S SAGA – Raced wide rounding the home turn.

The mare MAKING HEADLINES was inspected post-race by the Veterinarian and was found to be lame in the off foreleg. Trainer’s Representative Mr. S Massingham was advised that a Veterinary Clearance would be required prior to the mare being permitted to race again.

Following the running of this event Stewards upgraded the Track Rating from a GOOD 3 to a FIRM 2.

Race 5: Lions Den Hotel Open Handicap 1290 metres:
1st – KING MAGNUSSON 2nd – CANHEDANCE 3rd – BOOM SHA LA 4th – MIATA

MIATA – Dwelt at the start. Was inconvenienced near the 1000 metres when crowded between runners.

KING MAGNUSSON – Was crowded between runners shortly after jumping.

FRED THE LEGION – Was caught wide without cover in the early and middle stages.

CANHEDANCE – Was inclined to hang out rounding the home turn.

Race 6: Brackenhurst Contracting/Poison Creek Stn/Blair Agri Advisors Class 3 Plate 1400 metres:
1st – I’M MARIAH(NZ) 2nd – RISE TO THE TOP 3rd – AIR OF HEAVEN 4th – BAZZA’S BID

I’M MARIAH(NZ) – Shifted out near the 700 metres when not quite clear inconveniencing another runner. Jockey K Stone was instructed to excercise more care.

RISE TO THE TOP – Was inconvenienced near the 700 metres by another runner which shifted out when not quite clear.

NIC’S DRAGON – Jockey S Kaya reported that the gelding had resented the kickback in running. The gelding was inspected post-race by the Veterinarian and no abnormalities were detected.

Race 7: Cooktown Bowls Club Cooktown Cup Benchmark 70 Handicap 1700 metres:
1st – GUNDY STAR 2nd – FIRMITAS 3rd – ONEEYED UNDERTAKER 4th – KAMARAH

PEMBERTON was withdrawn by order of Stewards at 2:23pm as no rider was available.

GUNDY STAR – Was fractious in the barriers. Was inclined to over-race for a short distance when steadied off heels near the 1500 metres.

BLOWIN’ YOUR MIND – Was fractious in the barriers.

ONEEYED UNDERTAKER – Was fractious in the barriers. Was slowly away.

BO ROSSA – Was fractious in the barriers. Was caught wide without cover in the middle stages.

KAMARAH – Was fractious in the barriers. Raced wide rounding the home turn.

DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE – Began awkwardly.
