WEATHER – OVERCAST/SHOWERS TRACK RATING – GOOD (4)/DOWNGRADED TO SOFT (5) retrospectively after Race 1.

GENERAL

Stewards this morning conducted inspections of the stables of trainers located on course. No breaches of the Rules were detected.

RACE 1: Century Cranes Maiden Handicap - 950 metres
1st - STARMOSA 2nd - CLASSIC BURLESQUE 3rd - BLAZING ALLY 4th - VIRGINIA FALLS

LUNAR LUCK - Slipped behind at the start and lost ground.

CLASSIC BURLESQUE - Slow to begin.

BLAZING ALLY - Began awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn.

DON'T TELL SCOTTY - Raced greenly throughout.

CRAIGLEA JASMINE - Raced wide without cover.

STARMOSA - Passing the 600 metres had to be steadied when racing tight to the inside of another runner. Inclined to lay out in the home straight.

MICHELLE'S LUCK - Shortly after straightening for home had to be steadied when crowded for room, and weakened thereafter.

Following the running of this race the track rating was downgraded to a Soft (5) retrospectively.

RACE 2: Plasta Masta QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap - 950 metres
1st - CRAIGLEA ZIP 2nd - REGAL ROTH 3rd - BOTTEGA LOUIE 4th - VALLEY ROSE

ONYA MISS - The start was delayed when the filly refused to load into the barriers. Stewards ordered the late scratching of the filly, at 2.10 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all betsmade on the filly be refunded in full and that the following deductions apply:

5¢ in the dollar for the win, for the winner CRAIGLEA ZIP
8¢ in the dollar for the place, for the winner CRAIGLEA ZIP
9¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, REGAL ROTH
9¢ in the dollar for the place for 3rd, BOTTEGA LOUIE

Stewards advised trainer G. Hall that he must obtain a barrier certificate prior to ONYA MISS being permitted to race again.

REGAL ROTH - Slow to begin.

VALLEY ROSE - Checked at the start when crowded for room between runners. Rounding the home turn shifted out and made contact with another runner.

RYLEE'S SAGA - Hampered shortly after the start. Bumped by another runner rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.

BAR BABY - Raced wide without cover throughout.

ZAZAAR - When questioned regarding the horse's poor performance, App. B. Swaffer stated that his mount failed to stretch out at any stage of the event and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Ms N. Hoffman undertook to report back if there was anything amiss with the gelding in the days following the event.

RACE 3: FN Hot Cairns Class 6 Plate - 1250 metres
1st - WISHFUL 2nd - MAURIZIO 3rd - SUNSET IN NEW YORK 4th - RADIANT ANGEL

WISHFUL - The start was delayed when the mare got its near hind leg up in the barriers. WISHFUL was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.

JAMALKA - The start was further delayed when, after being loaded into the barriers, the mare became fractious, broke through the front of the gates, was quickly restrained by its rider, App. K. Aho. JAMALKA, examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.

KINGS ROAD - Began awkwardly.

DAZZLE ON - Attempted to jump a discoloured section of the track near the 1000 metres.

ACCIDENTAL - Passing the 500 metres whilst racing keenly had to be checked and lost ground when racing tight between runners.

RACE 4: Century Cranes QTIS 3-Y-O Plate - 1250 metres
1st - NEVETUS 2nd - EXECUTED 3rd - ELEMENT OF CHANCE 4th - IN HIS ELEMENT

JUST LUCKY - Prior to the race connections indicated that, from its wide barrier, the intention was to ride the gelding back in the field. Public announcements were made to that effect, and JUST LUCKY was ridden accordingly. Hampered approaching the home turn.

CRAIGLEA JETT - Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. Approaching the home turn shifted out and made heavy contact with another runner.

MR WRECKER - Approaching the home turn was bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced.

MODEL TO EXCEED - Was bumped approaching the home turn.

KENNYNOPAS - When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, Jockey M. Morris explained that the gelding failed to handle the shifty track conditions.

IN HIS ELEMENT - Raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages.

RACE 5: Cairns Hardware BenchMark 60 Handicap - 1250 metres
1st - BILT LEICA 2nd - GLADIUS 3rd - MOLONGLE CHIEF 4th - MY GIRL CHARLIE

JACSAID - Slipped behnd at the start and lost ground, then raced keenly in the early stages and made the first turn, near the 1000 metres, awkwardly.

TEST THE BEST - Raced wide throughout.

BILT LEICA - Jockey K. Rockett was reprimanded under A.R. 137A for using his whip in a forehand manner on two consecutive strides prior to the 100 metres.

RACE 6: Zinc FM Class 3 Plate - 1500 metres
1st - BLANCHARD BLOOM 2nd - DATE WITH FATE 3rd - I'M MARIAH 4th - AVIATOR GIRL

ZEDAHEEEL - Began awkwardly.

BLANCHFORD BLOOM - Hampered at the start.

DATE WITH FATE - Struck the fence when leaving the enclosure, was examined by the Club's veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field.
