----------

RACE 1: Piccones Supa IGA QTIS 3-Y-O Handicap - 1250 metres
1st - MISHANI EL LOBO 2nd - OURBOYBYRON 3rd - DRAGON ROCKET 4th - CATHEDRAL CITY

CANDLE LANTERN - Slow to begin.

DRAGON ROCKET - Buffeted between runners at the start. Raced ungenerously with its head up in the early stages.

JACARANDA KING - Made the first turn near the 900 metres awkwardly.

RACE 2: CFS Industries Class 6 Plate - 1250 metres
1st - MISHANI STEALTH 2nd - FASTCAR 3rd - SUNSET IN NEW YORK 4th - CASINO THOUGHTS

TIERES ROCK - At the request of Jockey D. Simmons, the gelding was examined behind the barriers and was found to be lame in the off foreleg. Stewards ordered the late scratching of the gelding at 1.03 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on TIERES ROCK be refunded and that the following deductions apply:

2¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, MISHANI STEALTH
5¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, MISHANI STEALTH
3¢ in the dollar for the place for the place for 2nd, FASTCAR
4¢ in the dollar for the place for 3rd, SUNSET IN NEW YORK.

Trainer Mr F. Wieland was told that prior to the gelding being permited to race again he must furnish a veterinary clearance.

ELITE ECHELON - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

FASTCAR - Laid in under pressure in the straight.

MAN AROUND TOWN - A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which weakened noticeably in the straight, revealed the gelding to be in a distressed state. Trainer Mr T. Rowe undertook to report back in the days subsequent.

RACE 3: Traffic Services Ratings Band 0-55 Handicap - 1500 metres
1st - FORTUNE MASCOT 2nd - NIC'S DRAGON 3rd - KISSER 4th - RESTART MY HEART

NIC'S DRAGON - Slow to begin and then crowded shortly after. Jockey S. Kaya was reprimanded under A.R. 137A for using his whip on the gelding on 7 occasions prior to the 100 metres.

CASINO ESCAPEE - Shifted out at the start and bumped NIC'S DRAGON. Raced fiercely throughout the early and middle stages and refused to settle.

RESTART MY HEART - Made the first turn near the 900 metres awkwardly.

SVAVARSSON - Raced wide without cover throughout.

BLAZING ALLY - A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer Mr P. Ryan was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance before the mare will be permitted to race again.

RACE 4: Nautilus Aviation BenchMark 65 Handicap - 1600 metres
1st - SUNBURY 2nd - FOREST WAY 3rd - IDLE SITUATION 4th - HILARIOUS HONOUR

ALDREN - Crowded for room at the start. Brushed the running rail near the 900 metres. Passing the 200 metres improved into a doubtful run, had to be steadied when disappointed for that run and was held up thereafter.

IDLE SITUATION - Began awkwardly and lost ground.

HILARIOUS HONOUR - Bumped at the start.

FOREST WAY - Made the turn near the 900 metres awkwardly.

STANDFORD - When questioned regarding her riding of the gelding, Apprentice E.Cass said that she had been instructed to ride her mount back in the field in the early stages and ensure that she got to the outside of runners. She added that after beginning only fairly, her mount settled comfortably in a rearward position, however when she moved the gelding away from the running rail it then commenced to over-race and as a result made a long sustained run around the field and assumed the lead where it commenced to hang out rounding the home turn. Trainer Mr T.Rowe confirmed the instructions issued, however agreed with the view of the stewards that Apprentice Cass should have made a greater effort to restrain her mount in the early stages and remained racing on the back of the eventual winner, SUNBURY. Stewards were also mindful of Apprentice Cass's relative inexperience.

RACE 5: Canelands Estate Redlynch Class 3 Handicap - 950 metres
1st - ROSIE'S COMMAND 2nd - RYLEE'S SAGA 3rd - KIRABO 4th - BOMBER MISS

FIVE STARS - Slow to begin.

RYLEE'S SAGA - Began awkwardly.

BOMBER MISS - Held up for clear running in the early part of the straight.

JUMBO RUMBO - Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

RACE 6: Panasales BenchMark 60 Handicap - 1250 metres
1st - RISE TO THE TOP 2nd - METEOR STORM 3rd - HERE TO DASH 4th - RICH 'N' FAMOUS

EXALTED WARRIOR - Slow to begin.

PURRFECT TYCOON - Crowded for room shortly after the start.

SCHNELLES PFERD - Rounding the first turn near the 900 metres shifted in and made heavy contact with METEOROS.

Approaching the first turn near the 900 metres, SHOT OF COURAGE (Jockey S. Kaya) commenced to buck and lost considerable ground resulting in EXALTED WARRIOR (Jockey M Haley) which was following, having to shift out abruptly and crowd PURRFECT TYCOON (Jockey S. Wilson). A short distance later SHOT OF COURAGE again began to buck, losing further ground and took no competitive part in the race. Trainer Mr S. Potiris was told that prior to racing again the gelding will have to perform satisfactorily in a trial.

RICH 'N' FAMOUS - Bled from both nostrils during running. Trainer Mrs J. Ryan was told that as this was the first time the gelding had bled it will be barred from racing for 3 months under A.R. 53A, and then only after performing satisfactorily in a gallop over at least 1000 metres in the presence of a steward.

RACE 7: Babinda Electrics Cairns Newmarket Open Handicap - 1400 metres
1st - LOCEANO 2nd - MIATA 3rd - ELEMENT OF CHANCE 4th - MISHANI WARRIOR

RIVARIVA - Slow to begin, then was bumped shortly afterwards.

GREEN ANCHOR - Began awkwardly. After being crossed near the 800 metres commenced to over-race and hung out. When placed under pressure in the straight, shifted out abruptly and crowded GUNDY STAR out onto BLAME GAME, resulting in both of those runners being forced wider. Trainer Mrs J. Ryan was told that a warning will be placed on the gelding.

BLAME GAME - Passing the 1100 metres was hampered by GREEN ANCHOR (Jockey P. Cullen), which shifted out marginally.

NEWSPAPER - Laid in under pressure in the straight.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of LOCEANO (Jockey S. Wiseman), Trainer Mr T. Rowe said that the only explanation he could offer was that after the gelding's most recent run it had undergone dental treatment and the extraction of a tooth. He said that the gelding had benefited from the administration of that dental treatment. Mr Rowe was reminded of his obligation to notify stewards of any occurrence that may affect a horse's performance.

RACE 8: Brothers Cairns Cup Open Handicap - 2100 metres
1st - CHATEAU DETTORI 2nd - ROCKNET 3rd - ARTIBAI 4th - ALAKRIS

CASTLE EXPRESS - Shifted out at the start and bumped ROWEINER. Raced keenly in the middle stages.

MASTER AVATAR - Passing the 1000 metres when racing keenly improved onto the heels of CHATEAU DETTORI , shifted out and hampered FIELDS OF TUSCANY.

ROWEINER - Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

ARTIBAI - Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the straight.

Jockey N. Day pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that over the final stages he allowed ROCKNET to shift in when insufficiently clear of CLEANSING ALE (Jockey C. Whiteley), which had to be steadied and was carried inwards. ROWEINER (Jockey S. Galloway) also was hampered as a consequence. Jockey Day's license to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence at midnight on 20th August 2016, up to and including Tuesday 30th August 2016.
