Stewards considered an objection lodged by Mr. R Ludwig the Trainer of 2nd placegetter WINDMILL LANE (App Ms. A Thomson) against 1st placegetter EFFIGY BELLE (Ms. S Wiseman) being declared the winner on the grounds of alleged interference near the 300m. After considering evidence tendered by the connections of the 2 runners and viewing the available patrol footage Stewards acknowledged that EFFIGY BELLE had shifted ground inwards near the 300m but were of the opinion that the mare was sufficiently clear of WINDMILL LANE to do so. Stewards were also of the opinion that the patrol footage clearly illustrated that App. Thomson had not been impeded in her efforts to continue riding WINDMILL LANE and that the gelding had not lost any momentum as a result of the alleged incident. Consequently Stewards dismissed the objection and declared Correct Weight on the semaphored numbers.

Race 6: THE LAW OFFICE CAIRNS OPEN HANDICAP 1600m

CAPITANEAR – Had to be restrained off heels after commencing to over-race near the 800m.
