SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
CAIRNS JOCKEY CLUB – SATURDAY 21 AUGUST 2021
 
Race 7: AMGROW / NUTURF BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1900 metres
VISCOSITY – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have the thumps. Trainer S. Massingham was advised he must provide a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to its next start.
  
Race 8: GREAT BARRIER ROOF CAIRNS NEWMARKET 1400 metres
 
INQUIRY – Trainer J. Wehlow subsequently advised stewards that consideration would be given to sending the gelding for a spell.    
 
GENERAL
 
Due to current Covid Restrictions the following jockeys were granted permission to ride their respective mounts overweight:
Race 2, Sairyn Fawke – She’s Atop Porsche +0.5kg
Race 3, Brad Pengelly – Quarter Past + 0.5kg, Sairyn Fawke - Sweet June +0.5kg
Race 6, Chris Whiteley – Bold Type + 0.5kg
Race 8, Brad Pengelly – Unbiased + 0.5kg, Ryan Wiggins – Namazu + 1.0kg, Les Tilley – Live The Moment + 1.0, Chris Whitely – Tutelage + 0.5kg 
Race 9, Chris Whiteley – Waterway + 0.5kg, Les Tilley – Boombrasstic + 1.0kg, Masayuki Abe – Stifling + 0.5kg
 
Stewards today inquired into the reason jockey Ms A Thomson failed to arrive on course at the Cairns Jockey Club, Saturday 21 August 2021 to fulfil her riding engagements. Ms Thomson provided a medical certificate and explained that due to illness from wasting she was unable to attend on the day and it had also prevented her from contacting connections and the stewards. Whilst stewards noted the medical certificate Ms Thomson was directed that she was must not accept rides under 56 kilograms in the immediate future and then only after making application to stewards to then lower her minimum riding weight.  
 
Race 1: TAB VENUE MODE Class 4 Handicap – 950 Metres
 
OCTOBER STORM – Began awkwardly.
 
OPINIONS – Slow into stride.
 
MATTERHORN (NZ) – Began awkwardly and raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
BIG FLASH –Slow to begin and then bumped by Palencia which shifted in. Raced three wide without cover for the majority of the race.
 
PALENCIA –Shifted in on jumping and bumped with Big Flash. Got its head up whilst being steadied near the 600m when racing keenly.
 
Race 2: GREAT NORTHERN BREWING CO. QTIS Three-Year-Old
Handicap – 1250 Metres
 
SHE'S ATOP PORSCHE – Permission was given for Jockey S Fawke to ride 0.5kg over the handicap weight. Jockey Fawke was issued with a severe reprimanded and advised to make earlier application when seeking to ride overweight in future.
 
FIGURED – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
STEPPING UP – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
DESTROY THE STAR – Near the 500m when laying in, was steadied off heels. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
VIENNA CRUISE – Was kicked at the barriers by another runner resulting in its rider being dislodged and then galloping riderless for some distance before being captured. Declared a late scratching at 12.59pm by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice that it had galloped a significant distance. All monies invested on Vienna Cruise were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and placegetters prior to 12.59pm:
 
23 cents in the dollar for the winner Anniemariah
14 cents in the dollar for the place of winner Anniemariah
22 cents in the dollar for 2nd place Rustic Rocker
22 cents in the dollar for 3rd place Stepping Up
 
Jockey S Wilson was examined by the QAS Officers after the race and cleared to fulfill his remaining riding engagements. A post-race veterinary examination of VIENNA CRUISE revealed no abnormalities.
 
Race 3: HOPPENS FLOORWORLD BENCHMARK 55 Handicap – 1250 Metres
 
ZABERFELDIE (NZ) – Blundered on jumping losing ground.
 
TOFF ROCKS – Slow to begin.
 
WILD CHOICE (NZ) – Jockey M Abe was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii),  for use of the whip 7 times prior to the 100m, 2 more than permitted. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off foreleg, with pain over the inside heel. Trainer A Bailey was advised that he will be required to provide a Veterinary Clearance prior to the horse racing or trialing again.
 
STARFILLY – Slow to begin, raced fiercely and restrained off heels leaving the 1000m.
 
QUARTER PAST – Raced fiercely and restrained off heels leaving the 1000m, continued to over race for a short distance thereafter. Laid in passing the 300 metres and had to be steadied off heels.
 
RUN RAMPANT – Raced three wide throughout.
 
TAPTHETILL – Raced three wide throughout.
 
ASSETS – Raced three wide throughout.
 
Race 4: FGF BITUMEN BENCHMARK 55 Handicap – 1250 Metres
 
PARIS IN MAY – Raced fiercely in the early stages and was restrained off heels near the 1000m.
 
SHIFTY SHAMUS – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the race.
 
KEFALONIA – Jockey F Edwards pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR132(5) in that he used his whip in an excessive manner by striking the gelding 19 times which is 5 more times than is permitted. Jockey F Edwards licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 21 days to commence midnight 28 August 2021 and expire midnight 18 September 2021.
 
Race 5: AIRBRIDGE NETWORKS Class 6 Plate 1250 – Metres
 
WILLYGOOD – Got its head up when racing in restricted room leaving the 500m.
 
ROTHMAN – Raced wide throughout.
 
ASHTON BLAIR – Raced wide throughout.
 
BATTLE CRY – Raced wide throughout.
 
PITCHFORK – Raced wide throughout.
 
DIO D'ORO – Post race vet exam revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of mild heat stress and subsequently recovered with cold therapy.
 
Race 6: BABINDA ELECTRICS LIGHTNING OPEN Handicap – 950 Metres
 
Correct weight was delayed when the Jockey L Morrison, rider of the 4th placegetter (TENOR) requested to view the photo finish in regards to the placing of the 3rd placegetter (BET ON LOVE). On viewing the official photo Jockey L Morrison was satisfied with the numbers semaphored by the Judges.  
 
BEAU JET –Slow to begin.
 
OUR ALICIA'S LANE – Slow to begin.
 
TYCOON THUNDER – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Was unable to obtain clear running over the concluding stages and went to the line without being fully tested.
 
HIDDEN IN HEAVEN – Steadied leaving the 100m when crowded for room.
 
BOLD TYPE – Leaving the 600m raced ungenerously getting its head up and shifting wider on the track when being restrained off heels and lost ground.
 
BET ON LOVE – Raced three wide for the majority of the race.
 
Race 7: CSF INDUSTRIES BENCHMARK 58 Handicap – 1500 Metres
 
JOHN BOOKE – Slow to begin, Approaching the 200m was crowded and severely hampered to the inside of Stolen Diamonds which shifted in.
 
UP THE RIVER – Slow to begin, raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
STOLEN DIAMONDS – Over raced in the early stages.
 
TAIKUN WARRIOR – Raced wide for the majority of the race. Rider C. Whiteley dropped his near side reign for a short period leaving 300 metres until near the 200 metres.
 
TODWICK – Approaching the 200m was crowded and severely hampered when racing to the inside of John Brooke and Stolen Diamonds which shifted in.Jockey D. Smith rider of STOLEN DIAMONDS pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a), in that near the 200m he directly his mount in when insufficiently clear resulting in JOHN BROOKE and TODWICK both being crowded and severely hampered. Jockey Smith’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 13 days to commence midnight 4th September 2021 and expire midnight 17th September 2021. Stewards deemed this incident as mid range.  
 
SHE'S NIC'N OFF – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
Following the running of this race the track was retrospectively upgraded to a Good 4.
 
Race 8: RED BERET HOTEL CAIRNS CUP – 2100 Metres
 
BEST HOFFA – Slow to begin.
 
MAQUEREAU – Approaching the winning post the first time commenced to over race and was restrained when racing in restricted room. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
TUTELAGE – Raced wide in the early stages until leaving the 1400 metres when improving to race outside the leader.
 
BUSTER BLOCK – Raced wide in the early stages and was restrained near the 1400 metres to take a position closer to the running rail.
 
FORTIFICATION – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
SALESMAN – Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
UNBIASED – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
PLAY ME NOW (NZ) – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
Race 9: MAGIC MILLIONS DAINTREE GUINEAS QTIS 4YO Handicap – 1500 Metres
 
MYSTERY 'N' MAGIC – Slow to begin.
 
KOONUNGA HILL – Slow to begin.
 
TENNESSEE BOY – Over raced early and middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be sore in near side shoulder. Trainer R. Chillemi was advised he will be required to provide a Veterinary Clearance prior to the horse racing or trialing again.
 
WATERWAY - A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be sore in near side knee. Trainer R. Chillemi was advised he will be required to provide a Veterinary Clearance prior to the horse racing or trialing again.

BOONA BOY – Shifted wider to improve leaving the 800m and raced wide from that point on. Jockey C Bayliss was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii), for use of the whip 6 times prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted.
