SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
Townsville 29 July 2023 - Race 6 - LADBROKES WINTER CUP OPEN Handicap 2000 Metres
FAST TRAIN – Trainer J. Ryan advised subsequently to its previous start the gelding had been found to have soreness in the off front lower leg and it is the decision that FAST TRAIN be retired from racing. Ms Ryan was advised that should circumstances change the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of soundness prior to being permitted to trial or race again.

GENERAL
As jockey S. Wilson was stood down by order of the steward’s, replacements were made as per steward’s summary. Stewards adjourned an inquiry to a date and time to be fixed into the circumstances regarding this matter.

Race 1: ELITE SAND & SOIL / EVERGREEN RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP – 950 Metres

MINI BEER – Was declared a late scratching at 11.22am by order of stewards.
All monies invested on MINI BEER were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and placegetters prior to 11:22am.

MISSA STITCH – Slow to begin and hampered by OCTOBER STORM which shifted in at the start.

CURRY LEGEND – Began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages.

DOMINANT ROSE – Began awkwardly and then tightened for room shortly after.

OCTOBER STORM – Shifted in at the start hampering MISSA STITCH.

ARROGANT HEART – Over-raced in the middle stages and was restrained off heels for some distance leaving the 600 metres.

MILLVALE – Raced wide for the majority.

Race 2: CLARKE AND PRINCE ARCHITECTS RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP – 950 Metres

TAORMINA RHYTHM – Fractious during its preliminary dislodging jockey N. Nelson who had a seemingly harmless fall. Ms Nelson was cleared to fulfill her engagement. Duel licensed trainer Ms Nelson was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding’s parading manners.

SATURDAY VIBES – Slow to begin. Over-raced in the middle stages.

ALWAYS WRITTEN OFF – Slow to begin.

IMPARDOO – Threw its head in the air on jumping and lost ground. Raced wide rounding the home turn.

AMELIA'S RAINBOW – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

BELLA'S IN COMMAND – Raced wide rounding the home turn.

ROSE OF ATHENS – A post-race veterinary examination revealed superficial lacerations to the right upper eyelid. Trainer S. Cooper was advised a veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next start.

Race 3: AUST RACECOURSE MANAGERS OPEN HANDICAP – 1900 Metres

HEIRBORN (NZ) – Shifted out at the start bumping OLYMPIC CLASS.

OLYMPIC CLASS – After being slow to begin was then bumped by HEIRBORN which shifted out.

MYSTERY 'N' MAGIC – Caught wide in the early stages before improving forward leaving the 1600 metres to race outside the leader.

Race 4: CAIRNS POST BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 1900 Metres

CONFINED THOUGHTS – As trainer K. Allender was under the misapprehension that jockey M. Butler would be riding at a minimum of 55kg at today’s race meeting she declared jockey M. Butler as the rider of the gelding 1kg over its allotted weight of 54kg. As this information was subsequently published via media outlets stewards were of the opinion that jockey M. Butler should ride CONFINED THOUGHTS at its advertised weight.

TRODAIRE – Trainer S. Royes advised stewards instructions would be issued to ride the gelding in a mid to forward position if circumstances permit. Was ridden accordingly.

MEDAL (NZ) – Slow to begin.

READY BY DESIGN – Slow to begin. Unable to take advantage of a run between NEMINGAH and TRODAIRE near the 150 metres before being disappointed for a run shortly after and shifted back inside.

NEMINGAH (NZ) – Over-raced in the early stages. When questioned into the seemingly improved performance trainer F. Wieland explained that in his opinion the gelding was not suited to the racing pattern at its previous start and further that it was not entirely comfortable on the track conditions. His explanation was noted.

CETSHWAYO – Raced wide in the early stages before improving forward leaving the 1600 metres. Laid out under pressure in the home straight proving difficult to ride and went to the line without being fully tested. Trainer S. Massingham subsequently advised stewards the gelding had previously raced ungenerously when ridden in a forward position and is of the opinion would be better suited ridden back in the field. He further added CETSHWAYO pulled up well on post-race inspection however will be monitored going forward and he will advise stewards if anything further should come to his attention.

NORAH – Raced wide in the early stages before improving forward and obtaining the lead near the 1200 metres. Compounded over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer G. Holt explained it would now be her intention to retire the mare from racing. Ms Holt was advised that should circumstances change the mare would require a veterinary certificate of soundness prior to being permitted to trial or race again.

Race 5: TRAFFIC SERVICES QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP – 950 Metres

POWER 'N' COURAGE – On arriving at the barriers, underwent a veterinary examination which revealed the gelding to be lame in the off-front leg and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 1.57pm. All monies invested on POWER ‘N’ COURAGE were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and placegetter prior to 1:57pm.

Trainers T & P Rowe were advised a veterinary certificate of soundness will be required prior to the horse racing or trialing again.

MISHANI EAGLE – Slow to begin.

HARTSHORN – Slow to begin. Had a tendency to lay out leaving the 200 metres and shifted out abruptly near the 150 metres when struck with the whip. Trainer S. Royes was advised a warning would be placed on the geldings racing manners. Mr Royes further advised he will reconsider recent gear changes on the gelding prior to its next start.

JAAKUNA – Raced wide for the majority.

APACHE MINTO – Raced wide for the majority.

Race 6: KENSINGTON PARK HORSE AGISTMENT MAIDEN PLATE – 1250 Metres

NOT A FAT BOY – Was slow into stride and was then crowded for room by SUPER TWENTY THREE which shifted out. Raced wide rounding the home turn.

SUPER TWENTY THREE – Shifted out at the start crowding NOT A FAT BOY. Over-raced in the early and middle stages.

BOOM KING – Shifted out at the start bumping ANOTHER DIMENSION.

ANOTHER DIMENSION – Bumped on jumping.

CODY'S BOY – Over-raced in the early stages.

NONNO JOE – Raced wide for the majority.

SIRENE ROUGE – Raced wide for the majority.

WISHNOWSKY – Following the race was found to be suffering heat stress and was quickly attended to by way of ice bath and veterinary attention to which the gelding improved to treatment. Trainer L. Terzi was advised a veterinary certificate of fitness will be required prior to it racing again.

Race 7: CAIRNS SUNLAND LEISURE PARK BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP – 950 Metres

KISS ME LATER – Contacted the enclosure gate on entering the course proper, underwent a veterinary examination on arrival at the barriers and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority. Shied on pulling up causing jockey J. Taylor to be dislodged giving him a seemingly harmless fall. J. Taylor was cleared to fulfil his remaining engagement.

MACEDON FLYER – Fractious in the barriers becoming cast, dislodging jockey N. Nelson and was declared a late scratching at 3.11pm by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice. All monies invested on MACEDON FLYER were ordered to be refunded. Deductions applicable to bets placed on the winner and placegetters prior to 3:11pm.

A post-race veterinary examination found a small amount of blood in its offside nostril due to trauma. Trainer N. Nelson was advised she must obtain a further barrier certificate for MACEDON FLYER and veterinary clearance would be required prior to its next race start.

WRITTLE – Shifted in soon after the start inconveniencing WANNA TWEET. Jockey A. Layt was reprimanded and advised to show greater care when shifting ground.

WANNA TWEET – Restrained soon after the start when inconvenienced by WRITTLE which shifted in.

CHOIR BOY – Shifted out at the start bumping with NARDA SHAR.

NARDA SHAR – Bumped on jumping. Jockey N. Thomas advised stewards his saddle shifted soon after the start placing him at a disadvantage.

HURTLE – Raced ungenerously for a short distance near the 600 metres when racing in restricted room.

EL OF A SAGA – Raced wide for the majority.

MORE THE MERRIER – Jockey N. Day dropped his whip near the 50 metres.

Race 8: LADBROKES CAIRNS NEWMARKET – 1400 Metres

TENNESSEE BOY – Reared high as the start was effected becoming momentarily cast in the barriers and dislodging jockey N. Yadi. Jockey Yadi was examined by the QAS medics following the incident and returned to the jockey’s room. Jockey Yadi will be required provide a medical clearance and pass a connectivity test prior to his next race ride. Trainer R. Chillemi was advised a further barrier certificate will be required prior to it being permitted to race again. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

TUTELAGE – Slow into stride. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

HE'S XCEPTIONAL – Over-raced in the early stages.

GO GETABOY – Raced wide for the majority.

LOVE ON SUNDAY – Raced wide for the majority.

Race 9: ELLIS BEACH BAR & GRILL BELLE OF THE DAINTREE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP – 1500 Metres

COURTING SARA – As trainer S. Cooper was under the misapprehension that jockey M. Butler would be riding at a minimum of 55kg at today’s race meeting he declared jockey M. Butler as the rider of the gelding .5kg over its allotted weight of 54.5kg. As this information was subsequently published via media outlets stewards were of the opinion that jockey M. Butler should ride COURTING SARA at its advertised weight.

LITTLE RED PEPPER – Over-raced in the early stages. Jockey I. Tey dropped her whip near the 200 metres. Raced wide for the majority.

BRING ME FLOWERS – Steadied off heels near the 900 metres. Raced wide for the majority.

FEMALE OFFICER – Over-raced in the early stages.

Race 10: NIESAR PAINTING QTIS CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1250 Metres

MISTA OMEGA – Slow to begin.

ADAMINABY – Slow to begin.

WHEY MISCHIEF – Over-raced in the early stages.

VANCOUVER BAY – Raced ungenerously in the middle stages. Restrained off heels near the 800 metres. Had a tendency to lay out under pressure over the concluding stages proving difficult to ride.

BELLS APPROACHING – Restrained off heels for a short distance leaving the 600 metres.

DARK REBEL – Over-raced in the middle stages. Momentarily steadied from heels leaving the 500 metres.

OVOID – Raced wide in the early stages. Trainer T. Rowe advised stewards following today’s performance it is the intention the gelding be sent for an immediate spell.

HARVESTA – Raced wide for the majority.
