Race 1: Anzac Day 100th Anniversary Maiden H’cap – 1400m

Stewards accepted the explanation for the late notification of L. Tilley as the rider of Ferociousjewel.

Correct weight was delayed whilst stewards viewed the patrol footage to determine if there were grounds for a protest to be lodged on behalf of the connections of the third placegetter, RED’S THE GO against THE PLAYROOM being declared second on the grounds of interference in the home straight. After reviewing the films, stewards were not satisfied that the interference suffered by the RED’S THE GO warranted a protest being lodged bearing in mind the margin between the runners at the conclusion of the event and therefore correct weight was declared.

MINE WITH LIME – Reluctant to proceed to the barriers. A warning was issued regarding the horse’s pre-race behaviour. Raced wide throughout.

HERE HE IS – Slow to begin. Jockey R. Goltz could offer no explanation for the poor performance of the horse.

RED’S THE GO – Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages. Laid in for the majority of the home straight, and near the 100m was forced to steady off the heels of another runner, which shifted in momentarily.

CUBAN PRINCESS – Improved onto heels of another runner near the 600m and forced to shift wider on the track.


Race 2: Mary’s Commercial Hotel Maiden H’cap – 1400m

As S. Apthorpe was indisposed, N. Evans was substituted as the rider of LUCKY ILLUSION.

As this race was delayed whilst ambulance officers were required to attend to a member of the public. Stewards subsequently ordered that races be put back one race time, with the final race scheduled to be run at 4.58 pm.

BLACK CHEVY – Slow to begin.

OUR LITTLE MISSY – Slow to begin and raced wide throughout.

DEAR MARY – Shifted out in the early stages, bumping another runner.

CALENDAR BABE – Bumped in the early stages.

FUSCUS – Steadied to avoid heels near the 50m.

REVENUE RAIDER – Raced wide throughout and near the 800m was forced wider by another runner.

GOT TOO LEICA – Improved onto heels of a weakening runner and as a result clipped that horses heels, blundered and as a consequence lost ground.

AMAZING MR HUGHES – Bled from both nostrils during the race. As this was the first time the horse has bled, it will now incur a 3 month bar from racing.

MADAM AUBERGE – A post race veterinary examination reported there was blood present in one nostril of the horse. As the veterinary surgeon was satisfied that the presence of blood was as a result of a laceration inside the horse’s nostril and no action was taken.


Race 3: Dalby Shopping World Maiden H’cap – 1000m

LADY VILLA – Tightened for room at the start.

DUBLEO DABBLE – Bumped at the start by another runner and became unbalanced.

MYTYBYTE – Began awkwardly, losing ground.

LE CHACAL – When racing keenly in the early stages was forced to steady when tightened for room. Apprentice L. Tilley was reminded of his obligations as regards to using his whip in the action of raising his arm above shoulder height.

ELEGANT ELLIE – Held up for a short distance at the heels of tiring runners near the 100m.

SNOWFINK - When questioned as to whether there was an opportunity to cross the runners to her inside during the early stages of the event rather than race in a 3 wide position, rider apprentice Ljung advised that in the early stages she hadn’t overly pressured the mare due to it laying in slightly, and therefore she did not feel her mount had mustered sufficient pace to safely cross runners to her inside, which ultimately resulted in her racing 3 wide for the majority of the event. Having had the opportunity to review the patrol footage, apprentice Ljung agreed with stewards that it would have been more advantageous for her to pressure her mount more in the early stages which would have enabled her to cross the runners to her inside, which would have given her a better run throughout the event. As stewards did not feel that apprentice Ljung’s riding fell below the required standard, no further action was taken.

WHEN IN DOUBT – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the horse, apprentice L. Attard advised that the horse never travelled strongly throughout the event and when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer S. Saal-Winter advised that following the poor performance today it was her intention to spell the horse.


Race 4: Warrego Water Class 1 H’cap – 1000m

CONVOY – Slow to begin.

BAY DUKE – Began awkwardly and lost ground at the start.

MAGIC RAELENE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Rider L. Tilley was reprimanded for using his whip in an action that raised his arm above shoulder height.

NADOR – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey J. Geppert advised that the gelding travelled reasonably during the early stages of the event, however when placed under pressure from the 600m failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing over the concluding stages. Trainer M. Goodwin also expressed disappointment with the performance however advised that in his opinion Nador appeared reluctant to improve into a narrow run in the home straight and added that the gelding may be better suited getting to the outside of runners in the home straight as it has previously performed well when ridden in this manner.

NATIVE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight and proved difficult to ride out.



Race 5: Brown Brothers Wines QTIS 3yo Class 2 H’cap – 1100m

CHOITIER – Declared a late scratching at 7.39 on veterinary advice.

GOLDIES RETURN – Slipped over in the tie-up stalls prior to the event. Examined by the Veterinary Surgeon and cleared to race. Slow to begin.

MASSIVE ATTACK – Jumped in the air at the start and lost ground. Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

TRY ‘N’ CATCH ME – Held up in the early stages of the home straight and near the 100m shifted out and bumped another runner.

MADGE – Bumped at the 100m.

BRAVE DAZZLER – Raced wide throughout, and laid out rounding the home turn.

Race 6: Black Toyota Class 3 Plate – 1100m

Stewards accepted the explanation for the late declaration of K. Yoshida as the rider of CRABBING.

NO NEGATIVE WAVES – Declared a late scratching at 3.50 pm after becoming fractious in barriers, breaking through the gates and galloping a circuit of the course riderless. The following deductions were applicable:

7 cents in the dollar for the win of Girls Command
5 cents in the dollar for place of winner Girls Command
9 cents in the dollar for 2nd place Amaizing Dragon
3 cents in the dollar for 3rd place Lord Beaufort

Connections were advised that a barrier certificate must be produced for the horse prior to its next race start.

CRABBING – Slow to begin.

FAITH ‘N’ BELIEF – Had to be steadied near the 700m to avoid the heels of another runner.

EXCEEDINGLY FINE – Held up in the early stages of the home straight and near the 200m was forced to steady to avoid heels.

CAPTAIN SPUR – Raced wide throughout the event.

THIS IS WAR – Raced wide throughout the event.

POUND ON TUBBY – Raced wide throughout the event.

MYSTIC MEDUSA – On return to scale, rider T. Brooker reported to stewards she was instructed to ride her mount positively in the early stages, however the horse failed to muster sufficient speed to completely fulfil those instructions. She added that when placed under pressure the mare failed to respond to her riding and proved disappointing.


Race 7: Carlton and United Breweries Open H’cap – 1400m

BILLY GOAT – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout.

STRADA TITLE – Raced wide throughout.

FOUR IRON – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey R. Goltz advised his mount travelled well throughout the event, however when placed under pressure rounding the home turn, the gelding failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

MODERN AL – Rider B. Newport was fined $200 for returning to scale in excess of half a kilogram overweight.


Race 8: Oakey Beef Exports Open H’cap - 1000m

WRITTENINTHERAIN – Slow to begin.

ADENARIUS – Slow to begin.

THINKHESAURUS – Slow to begin. Momentarily forced to ease approaching the 600m when SPEEDING DRAGON shifted in when not completely clear. J. Geppert, rider of SPEEDING DRAGON, was advised to exercise more care.

I’M THE ONE – Raced in restricted room rounding the home turn for a short distance.

TORNADOES - Tightened for room and forced to check leaving the 600m. Subsequently, apprentice B. Newport, rider of THINKHESAURUS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that he permitted his mount to shift out at that point of the race when not sufficiently clear of TORNADOES. B. Newport’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period covered by 5 race meetings, to commence at midnight, 2 May and to expire at midnight, 13 May. When considering penalty, stewards took into account B. Newport’s guilty plea and his good record in that this was his first careless riding suspension incurred against him in his career.
