Fancourt advised stewards that she felt the gelding travelled well until the home turn where she felt the horse became slightly unbalanced and once placed under pressure in the home straight did not respond to her riding and proved very disappointing. Trainer T. Gollan advised stewards that the gelding races best when able to obtain a position near the lead and was not suited when running in a mid-field position in today’s event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant findings. A post-race sample was taken.

GOING GOING GONE – Bumped another runner on jumping away.

A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any significant findings.

RACE 7: CRIME STOPPERS & PORT OF BRISBANE BM60 HCP – 2000M

Stewards questioned apprentices S. Eilbeck (LEPRECHAUN LAD) and A. Fancourt (GUNDY STORM) regarding the tactics adopted in the middle stages when they led by a considerable margin before GUNDY STORM weakened from the 600m. Apprentice Eilbeck stated she was instructed to let the horse settle into a comfortable rhythm as it has a tendency to hang out and overrace when restrained. She stated that after beginning from a wide barrier she was unable to obtain a position with cover and therefore allowed LEPRECHAUN LAD to stride forward to a position outside the leader near the 1400m. Apprentice Fancourt stated her instructions were to be positive from the barriers, as the horse was slow to begin at its previous start, and to obtain a forward position if possible. She stated that after pressuring GUNDY STORM to obtain the lead in the early stages, her mount travelled well until LEPRECHAUN LAD took up a position to her outside near the 1400m, at which point the gelding commenced to race keenly. Stewards advised apprentices Eilbeck and Fancourt that in similar circumstances they would be expected to make greater effort to restrain their mounts in order to give them the opportunity to finish the race off competitively.

DINA’S DRAGON – Over-raced in the early stages.
