STEWARDS REPORT

DALBY RACE  CLUB – SATURDAY,  4 FEBRUARY 2017

WEATHER – FINE                     TRACK RATING – GOOD 3         RAIL – TRUE

OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – R. Hitchener
Stewards – G. Dimsey, J. Childs, B. Cooke
Clerk of Scales – S. Fahey
Judge – J. Moody
Starter – I. Henderson
Veterinarian – J. Postle
Swab attendants – J. Skinner, E. Hodges

Race 1: Dalbyleaguesclub@theleaguesy QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate – 1400m

AUSSIE TYCOON – The start was delayed initially when the horse became fractious behind the barriers. Following a veterinary examination, was passed fit to start.  A post race veterinary examination revealed contusions to the off foreleg and also to have a laceration to the near-side foreleg.  A veterinary certificate must be provided prior to the horses next race start.

IRISH EYES – Declared a late scratching at 11.11 am after being fractious in the barriers. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on the horse were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable.

7 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets
9 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets for the win
12 cents in the dollar on the face value of 2nd place bets
9 cents in the dollar on the face value of 3rd place bets

Trainer M. Kropp was advised that the horse must trial to the satisfaction of stewards in 2 consecutive official barrier trials prior to its next race start.

RED BEACH – Raced wide without cover throughout.

SPANISH FELLA – Raced wide throughout.

SMOOTH VELVETE – Hung out for the majority of the event.

SHEER EASY – Raced greenly throughout.

Race 2: The JNR Diehards (Dalby Devils) Maiden H’cap – 1200m

TRUST ISSUES – Slow to begin.

ASCOT BOUND – Began awkwardly.

JIMIBRAMZ – Began awkwardly.

A STELLAR CAUSE – Saddle shifted backwards on jumping away, placing its rider at a disadvantage for the duration of the event.

BONDI BATTLE – Raced wide without cover throughout the event and laid in under pressure in the home straight.

MICKEY DAZZLER – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.

Race 3:  The Ashley Bennett (Princess 2017) Ratings Band 0-60 H’cap – 1000m

DARLING BE GOOD – Tightened for room at the start.

BIG BRITCHES – Began awkwardly.

SET WAIT – On return to scale jockey B. Newport advised that after being tightened for room at the start his mount then raced ungenerously for a considerable distance in the early and middle stages of the event and for that reason the horse failed to finish the race off as he had expected.

NOOR DROPPER – Steadied when placed in restricted room near the 100m.

OUTBACK STORM – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.

Race 4: The Dalby Diehards BenchMark 55 H’cap – 1400m

Correct weight was delayed to allow the connections of 2nd placegetter, PEGGY LEIGH to view the photo-finish print. Subsequently they were satisfied with the Judge’s placings and correct weight was then declared.

DOVANA – After being fractious in the enclosure was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

LE MAX – Began awkwardly.

STEWBALL – Improved onto heels at the 100m and steadied.

KID CRUIZE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.  On return to scale, jockey Yoshida could not offer any explanation for the performance of the horse today other than, in his opinion, the horse raced flat today.

IT’S NOT CRYSTAL – Raced wide throughout.

Race 5: The Dalby Diehards 200 Club Cannonball Flying Open H’cap – 1000m

CWMBRAN – Began awkwardly.  Pulled up quickly by its rider after passing the winning post and was found upon veterinary examination to be significantly lame as a result of quartering its off fore heel. Trainer B Waldron will be advised that he will be required to obtain a Veterinary Certificate for the horse prior to it next racing.

WRITTENINTHERAIN – Steadied from heels from the 800m.

Race 6: The Ostwald Bros Class 3 Plate - 1200m

MAXWELLS CREEK – Tightened for room at the start.

PRINCE OF PEACE – Bumped at the start.

CHOPHOUSE TEARS – Bumped at the start.

SUIT – Stewards questioned apprentice J. Brand in respect of her riding from the 600m.  Of concern to stewards was her lack of vigour from that point of the race.  Apprentice Brand reported that her mount had not travelled strongly throughout the event and, in her opinion, did not appreciate the firm track conditions despite her efforts to improve from the 600m.  After having had the opportunity to review the footage of the race with stewards, apprentice Brand agreed that she had erred in not placing the horse under greater pressure than she did from the 600m.  Stewards however, given apprentice Brand’s inexperience as an apprentice jockey, took the matter not further other than to advise her that in future she would be expected to show greater vigour on her horses than she did on this occasion.

VIVA LA PROXY – Apprentice B. Stower was fined $200 for failing to ride her mount out to the end of the race.
