GENERAL
Due to personal circumstances, Jockey T. Chambers was unable to make it to the meeting and was subsequently replaced on all riding engagements. Changes as per Stewards Summary.
RACE 1: HART PLUMBING BENCHMARK 50 HANDICAP – 1000M
GULLY GOSH – Slow to begin.
HARVEY DENT – Began awkwardly making contact with another runner to the inside. Blundered at the 500m dislodging its rider. Jockey C. Eaton was subsequently replaced on all riding engagements as per the Stewards Summary.
CAPTIAN’S ANGEL – Began awkwardly taking ASK AUDREY and FABULOUS RED outwards. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
ASK AUDREY – Taken wider by another runner at the start. Raced wide throughout the early stages. Fell at the 500m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings. Jockey G. Steele was subsequently taken to hospital and was replaced on all remaining engagements as per the Stewards Summary.
FABULOUS RED – Taken wide by another runner at the start. Raced wide throughout the early stages. When racing keenly, steadied to avoid heels at the 700m.
CHAMPAGNE WARRIOR – Raced wide throughout the early stages.
Stewards opened an inquiry into an incident which occurred at the 500m where HARVEY DENT blundered and ASK AURDREY fell, dislodging both riders (Jockey C Eaton and G. Steele). Stewards took evidence from riders in the vicinity of the incident and subsequently adjourned the inquiry until the riders taken to hospital could attend the inquiry.
Following the incident stewards inspected the section of track between the 600 and the 400m deeming it safe to race.
RACE 2: GIBSON GRAZING MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M
The start time of race two was delayed due to the Queensland Ambulance Service attending to injured jockeys. The amended start time was 3:01pm
HIDE THE CANDY – Reared at the start and took no competitive part in the event.
CHASING WAGTAILS – Began awkwardly making contact with another runner to the outside. Over raced from the 800m until the 600m then shifted out abruptly. Shifted in across heels to obtain clear running at the 100m.
SMOOTH VELVET – Jumped in the air at the start.
RUMBA LAARA – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
CHURCHILL DAWN – Began awkwardly making contact with another runner to the outside.
PET DRAGON – Dislodged Jockey J. Rudd in the mounting yard. After assessment from the Queensland Ambulance Service, Jockey Rudd was stood down from all remaining riding engagements, replacements as per Stewards Summary. Subsequently, Stewards declared PET DRAGON a late scratching at 2:56pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested in PET DRAGON be refunded with the following deductions to apply.
0 cents in the dollar for the win # 4
12cents in the dollar for place of winner # 4
15 cents in the dollar for 2nd place # 11
11 cents in the dollar for 3rd place # 12
Stewards advised trainer J. Hearne that a warning would be placed on the mare.
RACE 3: CLEANING & CATERING CLASS B HANDICAP – 1300M
ZOOMING OVER YOU – Stewards permitted Jockey D. McMaster to ride one and a half kilograms overweight due to no suitable riders being available.
ARLIS – Began awkwardly.
PARELEMA – Raced wide throughout.
GOLD SEARCH – Began awkwardly. Failed to muster early speed and took no competitive part in the event. Upon returning to scale, Jockey S. Apthorpe reported that the gelding failed to respond to hard riding throughout. Stewards advised trainer T. Dougall that a warning would be placed on the horse.
WESNLEY ROAD – Bucked shortly after the start taking no competitive part in the event. Upon returning to scale, Apprentice H. Phillips reported that her saddle had slipped upon jumping and in her opinion that was the cause for the horse bucking.
RACE 4: WILLY WHEATMEN BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP – 1300M
HEZA CHUMLEY – Began awkwardly, making contact with another runner to the outside.
ROUBAIX – Began awkwardly, making contact with another runner to the outside.
WORLD SERIES – Slow to begin.
ONE MORE TWIST – Raced wide throughout.
RACE 5: GOLDING AIRCONDITIONING & HEATING BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP – 1788M
ST JAMES SQUARE – Inclined to hang out exiting the home straight on the first occasion. Over raced from the 1600m to the 1000m.
LANDED – Shifted out at the 1200m and continued to race three wide without cover for the remainder of the event. Upon returning to scale Jockey L. McCoy reported that she was unable control the gelding throughout the event.
BOJOURA – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
