MISS AMIGO – Carried extremely wide by AGREE TO near the 900m.

STRONG WILL – When presented in the enclosure the filly was observed to have a small abrasion to the off hind fetlock. After being examined by the veterinary surgeon, the horse was passed to start.

Race 3: ACQUIRED AWARENESS BM95 H’CAP – 2200M

VOLKHERE – Brushed the running rail near the 1600m and became badly unbalanced. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

ORIENTAL LADY – M. Cahill reported at scale that in his opinion the mare was not suited by the slow tempo in the early stages of the race. Trainer K. Lees’ representative advised that consideration would be given to the removal of blinkers from the mare for its next start. A swab sample was taken.

PERPLEXITY – Trainer C. Munce advised that in his opinion the gelding did not appreciate the soft track conditions at its previous start on 28 March 2015 and was much better suited by the firmer track conditions today.

FRETON – Connections advised that the horse would be ridden in a more forward position if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly, however, near the 1300m, due to the slow tempo, its rider elected to shift out and allow the gelding to stride forward to find the lead at the 1200m.

TIPS ‘N’ TALES – Threw its head about at the start.

Race 4: BEST SECURITY 3YO C&G PLATE – 1630M

PUNTA NORTE – G. Colless reported that it was not his intention to race forward today, however after receiving a bump approaching the 1400m the gelding fired up and he allowed it to stride forward and cross to the lead.

GID UP STROP – Momentarily tightened for room by CHILLIN WITH DYLAN leaving the 600m.

GREY ROCK – Inconvenienced near the 1300m when the pace steadied.

ANNAMAN – Allowed to stride forward to find a position closer to the rail after being trapped wide in the early stages.

HENRYVONHUFEISEN – Caught 3 wide without cover throughout.

SILENT DUKE – Tightened for room between runners after leaving the 200m and as a result had to be steadied, and was then held up for a short distance. L. Tarrant was questioned regarding his riding in the early stages. He stated that he was instructed to have the horse racing in a midfield position, however when caught wide in the early stages he elected to push forward and lead. L. Tarrant was severely reprimanded for steadying the pace after crossing to the lead near the 1300m, resulting in GREY ROCK and CHILLIN WITH DYLAN being inconvenienced.

Race 5: CALIBRE CONSULTING 3YO FILLIES PLATE – 1630M

COL ‘N’ LIL – L. Tarrant dropped his whip near the 200m.

SHEISWHATSHEIS – T. Harrison dropped her whip near the 200m.

SIR MOMENTS – Trainer S. O’Dea was questioned regarding the horse’s improved performance. He stated that the gelding was not entirely suited by the tactics adopted at its last start and added that in his opinion the addition of the tongue tie today may have contributed to the improved performance.

EVANGELIST – Slow to begin. When asked to explain the disappointing performance, M. Cahill stated that after being slow to begin he settled towards the rear of the field and travelled comfortably following the eventual winner SIR MOMENTS, however when the pace quickened from the 500m, the horse failed to respond to his riding and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

ONGOING VENTURE – Blundered on jumping. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had quartered the off fore heel.

Following this event the track was upgraded to GOOD 3 retrospective.

Race 7: GARRARDS OPEN H’CAP – 1350M

JUST A PERLA underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers at the request of rider L. Tarrant and was found to be lame in the off foreleg. Acting on veterinary advice, stewards ordered the withdrawal of JUST A PERLA at 3.28 p.m. Stewards ordered that all monies invested on JUST A PERLA be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

4 cents in the dollar for the Win #12
3 cents in the dollar for place of winner #12
4 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #4
5 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #13

Trainer J. Bannon was advised that he will be required to produce a veterinary clearance for JUST A PERLA prior to it being permitted to race again.

HEADWATER COUNTRY – Badly crowded when hampered shortly after the start.

FALZINI – Raced 3 wide without cover.

JESSELTON – Raced 5 wide without cover.

PIENKNA – Raced extremely wide throughout. T. Harrison was questioned regarding her riding in the early stages. She stated that she had been instructed to ride the filly quieter today, however she was unable to gain cover and therefore she was obliged to race wide throughout. Trainer T. Gollan explained that from the wide draw he was concerned with the significant amount of speed of other runners drawn to his inside and for this reason he instructed his rider to “come out neutral” rather than be involved in a speed battle and get caught wide. PIENKNA ended up racing extremely wide throughout without cover. Stewards were of the view that Mr Gollan had an obligation under AR. 135A to advise the stewards of such a change of tactics and imposed a fine of $200.

HAKKASAN – Tightened for room and had to be checked to avoid the heels of BEAU JET (T. Bell), which shifted in approaching the 100m. T. Bell pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR. 137(a) in that approaching the 100m he shifted his mount out from behind the heels of PINCH RIVER when not fully clear of HAKKASAN. T. Bell’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 7 meetings, with the term to commence at midnight on Sunday, 12 April, and expire at midnight on Sunday, 26 April 2015. In determining penalty, stewards took into account jockey Bell’s good record, his guilty plea and that he would miss 2 Saturday feature meetings.

GROOVY GAL – Finished a distant last. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly was suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer M. Dunn was advised that prior to GROOVY GAL being permitted to start again he must produce the results of an ECG and the filly must trial satisfactorily.
