Race 1: Past President’s QTIS 2yo H'cap – 1640m

TAMBOR BLANCO – Stewards permitted P. Hammersley to ride the gelding half a kilogram overweight when no other rider was available. Jockey Hammersley was fined $300.

SHOW COMMAND – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, making contact with another runner.

HALLS CREEK – Contacted on jumping away. Had to be steadied when briefly tightened for room after leaving the 1400m. Raced wide after leaving the 800m.

WICKED SNIPPETS – Jumped away awkwardly.

FOGOSO – Raced wide near the 1300m and pushed forward by its rider to race outside the leader.

A REAL HEARTBREAKA – Raced wide after leaving the 1200m.

ALL GET CLANGED – Improved up inside the heels of another runner near the 700m and had to be checked.


Race 2: Tattersall’s Racing Club Open H'cap – 1200m

PRETTYFAMOUS – Had to be restrained off heels near the 600m. Held up in the early stages of the home straight. Jockey R. Wiggins accidentally dropped his whip inside the 200m.

SMOOTH TALKER – Held up in the early stages of the home straight.

EASTERN PRINCE – Raced wide without cover.

EXCELLANTES – Apprentice jockey L. Dittman reported that the gelding did not respond when placed under pressure in the straight and may have felt the effects of the firm track. Trainer R. Heathcote reported that the gelding had pulled up well, however his intention was to send the horse for a spell. A post race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the off hindleg.

FACILE TIGRE – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have pulled up in a distressed condition and lame in the near foreleg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.


Race 3: Tattersall’s Arcade 1 MW H'cap – 1110m

GLIMMER – The explanation tendered by trainer S. Henley for his late arrival on course with the horse was accepted.

LIBERATION – Connections advised that the colt would be ridden well back in the field from the wide barrier. The horse was ridden accordingly. Held up from the entrance to the straight until after leaving the 200m. After obtaining a narrow run near the 100m was bumped by another runner.

SPEEDY SAM – Shifted out and made heavy contact with another runner shortly after the start. Jockey R. Wiggins became unbalanced in this incident.

FAITH’N’COURAGE – Bumped shortly after the start. When being restrained approaching the first turn had to be steadied away from heels.

SINGLE MELODY – After bumping another runner near the 100m, then shifted back in and had to be restrained off heels.

BUSH CAVIAR – Raced wide throughout.

ONE IN ONE OUT – Rider G. Goold reported his mount was inclined to lay out throughout the race.

Race 4: The Mater Foundation Open H'cap – 2200m

HOLLY HOLY – Jockey R. Ride reported her saddle shifted forward shortly after the start, resulting in her being severely disadvantaged and retiring the mare from the event near the 1000m.

BOREHOLE – Made contact with another runner shortly after the start and became unbalanced.

IN MASQUERADE – Obliged to steady from heels of another runner near the 300m. Sustained an injury to the near fore tendon. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided for the mare prior to its next race start.

FRETON – Was accidentally struck over the head by the whip of L. Dittman (Shotover River) near the 50m. Brushed approaching the finish line.

SHOTOVER RIVER – Brushed approaching the finish line.


Race 5: Des Lambart Memorial Class 6 H'cap – 1640m

BUDGET BENDER – Raced wide in the early stages. Jockey B. Pengelly pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that after leaving the 1400m he permitted his mount to shift in when not fully clear of TRACEY’S ANGEL, resulting in apprentice Orman having to take hold of that horse and relinquish his position. B. Pengelly was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 26 July and to expire at midnight, 6 August.

TRACEY’S ANGEL – After being checked at the 1400m the mare was allowed to stride forward and race outside the leader.

THE THOMAS AFFAIR – Forced wider on the track by another runner approaching the home turn.

L’ENTRECOTE – Disappointed for a run near the 200m.

HONEY TOAST – Obliged to steady from heels approaching the winning post.

ROYAL SCRIBE - When questioned, jockey S. Galloway stated that it was his intention to ride the gelding in a handy position, however when his mount jumped away only fairly he elected to ease and take up a position at the rear of the field.


Race 6: Tattersall’s Mile H'cap – 1640m

EPIC – Connections advised from the good barrier to be ridden in a more forward position. The gelding raced accordingly.

AVALANCHES – Connections advised the gelding would be ridden midfield if possible from the wide barrier. The gelding raced back in the field.

KAZOOM – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages.

JETSET LAD – Slow to begin.

ALDINI – Obliged to steady to avoid heels after leaving the 1400m.

DUBAWI DREAM – Jockey R. Fradd was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in after leaving the 1400m when not clear of another runner. Hampered when tightened for room near the 250m. When questioned, R. Fradd stated that the horse was timid and was reluctant to take a run when presented near the 200m, adding that it may not have appreciated the firm track.


Race 7: Carlton Mid Class 6 H'cap – 1350m

KARIEGA – Slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

YOUWAITANDSEE – Slow to begin.

YOU DID WHAT – Jumped away awkwardly.

CAELLUM – Rider was obliged to stop riding and steady to avoid heels inside the 50m.

BUAKAW – Shifted in over the concluding stages. Apprentice B. Appo was advised to exercise more care.

LUCKY TOM – Brushed the running rail and became awkward passing the winning post.

LAUTERBRUNNEN – Lost its off hind plate in running.

LOCK’S LEGEND – Jockey B. Pengelly was reprimanded for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m in a forehand manner.


Race 8: Global Transport Insurance QTIS 3yo H'cap – 1200m

ZIP TO THE MOON - After being fractious in the gates jumped away awkwardly, losing ground.

CORNROW – Jumped away awkwardly.

HEART COMMAND – Hampered shortly after the start when tightened for room between runners.

FEELS LIKE HOME – Overraced in the early stages, and then taken wider on the track by another runner after leaving the 800m. Tightened for room approaching the home turn. Hung out in the home straight. Jockey J. Byrne advised that his mount did not appreciate the firm track conditions today.

LUSH BELLE – Checked when disappointed for clear running near the 300m.

TRY ‘N’ CATCH – Obliged to steady to avoid heels near the 300m.

AMIZADE – Raced wide without cover.

ANOTHER WHISKEY – Jockey B. Stewart was fined $300 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m in a forehand manner.
