SUPPLEMENTARY REPORTS:

From Doomben 17/10/2015 – Race 8

On Thursday 22 October 2015 stewards concluded an inquiry into the reason why ANY DAY WILL DO (J. Lloyd) and HARDLINE (D. Browne) had to be checked when tightened for room near the 900m. Evidence was taken from riders J. Lloyd, D. Browne, R. Wiggins (SARISARA), App B. Appo (ADORABUBBLE) and Mr M Lakey the master of App Appo. After considering the evidence App B. Appo pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that after passing the 900m he allowed ADORABUBBLE to shift in when not sufficiently clear of SARISARA, which was taken inwards across the rightful running of HARDLINE, which had to be restrained and lost ground. App Appo was suspended from riding in races for a period of nine (9) days to commence midnight 24 October 2015 and expire midnight 2 November 2015. In assessing penalty stewards acknowledged that the tightening that occurred to ANY DAY WILL DO was as a result of HARDLINE shifting in away from SARISARA.

Race 1: DPMA QTIS 2YO Colts & Geldings H'Cap - 1110m

SUGAR RAY RED – Reared at the start and lost ground.

SHONECK AFFAIR – Slow to begin. Passing the 800m had to be restrained from the heels of ENDLESS DAYS. Had to be restrained from heels near the 650m.

ENDLESS DAYS – Overraced in the early stages and near the 800m had to be steadied from the heels of PUNISHING. Passing the 700m continued to overrace and had to be checked from the heels of PUNISHING.

RED ONYX – Had to be steadied from the heels of SUGAR RAY RED (R. Wiggins) and alter course near the 200m. Jockey R. Wiggins was advised to ensure he is fully clear when shifting ground in future.

VULPINI – When asked to explain the disappointing performance of the gelding App J. Orman stated he had to ride aggressively in the early stages from the wide barrier to take up a forward position and the horse travelled comfortably in the middle stages but when pressured soon after straightening did not respond to his riding. Trainer M. Leitch confirmed the gelding will now be sent for an immediate spell. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

STAR OF POMPEII – When asked to explain the disappointing performance of the colt jockey M. Cahill stated that he had to ride aggressively in the early stages to take up the lead approaching the 900m and when VULPINI raced to his outside soon afterwards STAR OF POMPEII raced keenly and was under pressure approaching the home turn, failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion was disappointing. Stable representative for trainer G. Heinrich advised that it is the intention to continue with the current preparation and undertook to report to stewards anything that may become apparent in the coming days that explains today’s performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.

Race 2: Tox Free Open H'Cap - 2000m

QUICK SNITZEL – For some distance approaching and passing the 500m was unable to improve when awkwardly placed at the heels of THE INVENTOR. Lost an off fore plate in running.

HIGHLY GENTLE – Jockey G. Colless was reprimanded for using his whip in a forehand manner on more than 5 occasions prior to the 100m.

MY QUILTER – App B. Stower reported the gelding hung out throughout the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer S. Mackinnon advised the gelding will now be sent for an immediate spell.

Race 3: Kartaway Miniskips Fillies & Mares NMW H’Cap - 1110m

OUR LADY MAC – Fractious in the barriers, removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to race. Bumped by another runner near the 800m. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance of the mare trainer S. Tregea explained the horse was second up from a spell today and at its last start met with interference near the 600m and worked to the line satisfactorily over 900m. Mr Tregea added that the mare has worked well leading into today’s race and he was comfortable of a forward showing. Stewards noted his explanation.

ISABELLE ROSE – Slow to begin.

EBONY REIN – Approaching the 800m shifted in and bumped OUR LADY MAC.

WUZETIAN – Hung in in the home straight and proved difficult to ride. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer M. Butler will be advised that a veterinary clearance must be produced prior to the mare racing again.

SAINT HUGO – Unable to secure clear running in the home straight until approaching the 150m.

WIDOW’S WALK – Had to be steadied from the heels of SAINT HUGO (App J. Orman) inside the 100m. App Orman was issued with a reprimand.

MY MAISIE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

GROOVY GAL – Jockey J. Lloyd reported that the mare did not feel entirely comfortable in its action and when asked to improve from the 500m weakened badly in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be suffering from cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer M. Dunn was advised that the mare must perform satisfactorily in a trial and he must produce a veterinary clearance together with the results of a ECG prior to the mare racing again.

Race 4: IVECO Colts, Geldings & Entires NMW H'Cap - 1110m

SONY LEGEND – Trainer B. Smith advised he will instruct the rider P. Hammersley to attempt to settle off the speed today with cover if possible. The horse was ridden accordingly.

Race 5: Nugrow Organics QTIS 3YO H'Cap - 1110m

EIGHT BELOW – Slow to begin.

IN HIS STRIDE – Had to be restrained from heels passing the 700m when the pace steadied.

MADOTTI – Held up for clear running in the home straight and was disappointed when attempting a narrow run near the 150m and made contact with the hind quarters of WICKED INTENT. Obliged to alter course in order to improve approaching the 100m.

WICKED INTENT – Bumped heavily on the hind quarters near the 150m. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the early stages App M. McGillivray stated he had specific instructions to lead and he rode aggressively from the outside barrier and had to work harder than he would have liked in order to cross DANGLISSA GIRL and BIG TREE approaching the first turn. He added he was able to steady the tempo in the middle stages and soon after straightening pressured WICKED INTENT and the horse did not quicken as expected. Stewards accepted his explanation.

Race 6: SUPERIORPAK Class 6 H’Cap - 1350m

CHARLIE CAT – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

SEA RED – Slow to begin. Lost a near fore plate in running.

NICKED AND COURT – Unable to improve in the early part of the home straight when awkwardly placed at the heels of REDWOLF and NICKY NOCKY, which were weakening. Jockey J. Lloyd was reminded of his obligations to at all times where possible ride his mounts out to the end of the race.

NICKY NOCKY – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

SKIP TOWN – Raced 3 wide throughout.

WHATALOVELYDAY – Raced 3 wide throughout.

Race 7: Suez Recycling & Recovery Open H'Cap -1200m

NEO – Raced 3 wide throughout.

WHISKEY ALLROUND – Jockey T. Harrison reported at scale that her mount hung out for a major part of the race.

Race 8: Driver Recruitment BenchMark 80 H'Cap - 1615m

CRACCO – Raced in blinkers not pacifiers which are part of its normal gear. Trainer B. Smith was fined $100.00 for presenting the gelding with blinkers instead of pacifiers.

Prior to correct weight stewards considered an objection lodged by App B. Appo the rider of COSMONAUT which finished 4th against COMACINA (B. Stewart) being declared the 3rd placegetter on the grounds of alleged interference near the 1400m. After taking evidence from all relevant parties it was established that COL ‘N’ LIL, which was steadying and shifting in slightly contributed to the tightening of COSMONAUT, which at the same stage was bumped on the hind quarters by COMACINA. Stewards were not satisfied that this interference, bearing in mind the point in the race that it occurred and the subsequent settling position of the horses and the way they finished the race off, warranted a reversal of placings and correct weight was given on the numbers as semaphored.

GLORIOUS RED – Slow to begin. Bumped another runner near the 150m.

GRAPPA BRANDY – Had to be restrained from heels passing the 1400m.

COMACINA – Overraced in the middle stages and near the 800m steadied from the heels of GLORIOUS RED. Bumped another runner near the 150m.

COL ‘N’ LIL – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
