Race 1: Sapphire Recruitment Open H'cap – 2200m

METEOROLOGIST – Allowed to stride forward in the middle stages and gained the position outside the leader near the 800m. A post race veterinary examination revealed atrial fibrillation. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG, must be provided, and the gelding must trial satisfactorily prior to its next race start.

ONGOING VENTURE – Unable to improve for some distance passing the 600m when awkwardly placed at the heels of the tiring METEOROLOGIST.

UNO FIVE – Shifted out under pressure in the early part of the straight.

Race 2: Winning Edge Presentations QTIS 2yo H'cap – 1050m

Trainer P. Balzen was reprimanded for presenting SCALPED late to the enclosure.

The start was significantly delayed due to RED HANDLE shifting its near fore plate. After being replated, the filly was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

FATAL RENDEZVOUS – Slow to begin. Overraced in the early stages. Raced greenly throughout the race.

OINK – Slow to begin and was then hampered soon after the start when SHONECK AFFAIR shifted out.

THUNDER RAIDER – Forced wider by HAPPY EVENT near the 900m. Bumped by OINK near the 300m and became unbalanced. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages before being corrected by its rider.

HAPPY EVENT – Had to be eased from the heels of THUNDER RAIDER approaching the 500m when that horse shifted in when not fully clear. Apprentice B. Appo, rider of THUNDER RAIDER, was issued with a severe reprimand and advised to provide greater clearance to his fellow riders in future.

TWO SHOES – Raced 3 wide throughout. When afforded the opportunity to comment on the performance, apprentice J. Orman stated that after being obliged to race 3 wide throughout the event the filly failed to quicken as expected and, in his opinion, raced flat today and was somewhat disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 3: IPG Connect Benchmark 90 H'cap – 1050m

KUDERO – Had to be steadied from the heels of HEART SMART passing the 800m.

HEART SMART – Overraced in the middle stages and had to be restrained from the heels of FALINO. Raced 3 wide.

NAKANAI – Shifted out passing the 600m and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of KUDERO. Soon afterwards, NAKANAI had to be checked when tightened for room by KUDERO. At a subsequent inquiry, it was established that the racing manners of NAKANAI had contributed to this interference and that jockey A. Allen, rider of KUDERO, had made an effort to correct his mount prior to the interference and as a result no direct action was taken.

LADY JETSETTER – Shifted out under pressure over the final 200m.

FALINO – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

Race 4: Tattersall’s Arcade Open H'cap – 1200m

AUSSIES LOVE SPORT – Reared at the start and lost ground.

ADORABUBBLE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

SOMEDAY – For some distance passing the 1100m was bumped by AUSSIES LOVE SPORT on a number of occasions. M. Cahill, rider of AUSSIES LOVE SPORT, was advised not to put unnecessary pressure on runners when attempting to shift closer to the rail. Apprentice M. McGillivray, rider of SOMEDAY, was of the view that the horse was not suited by today’s firm track. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding, which performed disappointingly, revealed it to be short striding in front.

Race 5: Tattersall’s Members Cup H'cap (Scaled + 1 kg) – 1600m

RIGHT OR WRONG – Jockey R. Fradd was questioned regarding the riding tactics he adopted in the early stages, and the reason for him leaving a trailing position behind KALANDULA approaching the 1300m and riding forward, which resulted in him being forced 3 wide without cover throughout. Jockey Fradd explained approaching the first turn when the tempo of the race was genuine he attempted to shift around KALANDULA and obtain the position one off the fence trailing SNIPPETS LAND. He further added that soon after entering the back straight the pace of the race slowed and runners to his inside improved and he was unable to obtain the position behind SNIPPETS LAND and therefore was obliged to race 3 wide. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 6: Southbank Insurance Brokers NMW H'cap – 1200m

VENECIA – Upon arrival at the barriers the mare underwent a veterinary examination at the request of its rider, T. Harrison. Subsequently, it was found to be lame in the off foreleg and was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards at 3.34 pm with the following deductions applicable to bets placed on winner and place-getters prior to 3.34 pm

2 cents in the dollar for the Win #6
2 cents in the dollar for place of winner #6
2 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #2
2 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #4

SP bets are not subject to deductions

Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.

NEVETUS – Overraced in the early stages of the race.

APPLE THIEF – Overraced in the early stages of the race. A post race veterinary examination revealed it to be suffering from heat stress.

URBAN KNIGHT – Improved onto heels of FIERCELY DEFIANT passing the 600m and had to be steadied.

ALPEN ROSE – Forced wider on the home turn by another runner. Raced 3 wide throughout.

SHARPE HUSSLER – Held up for clear running in the early stages of the home straight, and near the 250m shifted in and made heavy contact with MAJASKA.

MAJASKA – Bumped heavily near the 250m. A short distance later had to be checked to avoid the heels of ANNANDALE LASS. J. Orman, rider of ANNANDALE LASS, was issued with a reprimand and advised to show greater care when shifting ground.

ANNANDALE LASS – Raced 3 wide without cover until a point approaching the 600m.

SILENT DUKE – Had to be steadied over the final 250m when improving on to the heels of NEVETUS. Jockey J. Lloyd reported that his mount began with the field but then would not muster any early speed and as a result settled at the rear of the field.

Race 7: Carlton Mid Class 6 Plate – 1350m

SPIRIT OF HEAVEN – Declared a late scratching at 2.08 pm following an application by the trainer to scratch the horse following the track upgrade.

ELEIVUE – Reared at the start and hit its head on the top of the barrier partition and lost significant ground. The stable representative for ELEIVUE, was advised that the mare must compete satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next race start.

KATELETTE – Had to be steadied from the heels of GOLD HORIZEN near the 200m when that runner weakened, and soon after shifted in and made heavy contact with the hind quarters of ELEIVUE and as a result lost significant ground.

L’ENTRECOTE – Had to alter course approaching the 200m to the outside of REVELDOR in order to improve.

Race 8: Allan Rohde 60th QTIS 3yo H'cap – 1600m

PRINCESS CHARM – As R. Wiggins was to be overweight, A. Allen was substituted as the rider of the horse. Jockey Wiggins was fined $200.

I’M BELUCCI - Trainer D. Forster advised that from the wide barrier the horse would be ridden in a rearward position with cover in contrast to its last start when it led. Raced 3 wide for the final 1200m of the race. The horse was ridden accordingly.

SUBSOLAR – Connections advised that the horse, which usually races in a forward position, would be ridden midfield from the awkward alley if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly. Overraced in the early stages.

HALLS CREEK – Stood flatfooted at the start and lost significant ground. Could not obtain clear running over the final 200m and as a result went to the line not fully tested by its rider.

FELTON ROAD – Slow to begin.

AGORA – Buffeted at the start between runners.

MR EPIC – Overraced in the early stages and near the 1100m shifted out and bumped another runner. Apprentice M. McGillivray was fined $1000 for using his whip more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

OUR STORY – Bumped by MR EPIC near the 1100m. Raced 3 wide in the early stages before being ridden forward to take the lead near the 900m.
