GENERAL

As B. Grylls and S. Fawke were indisposed, riding changes were made as per the stewards summary sheet.


Race 1: Millie Wright Benchmark 75 H'cap – 1050m

EXECUTED – The start was delayed when the gelding required farrier attention.

HOLDER SUNSET – Reared as the gates opened and lost ground. Raced wide.

DRAGON STREET – Jumped away awkwardly.

SILIQUA – Jumped away awkwardly.

TESTATIME – Shifted in and made contact with another runner near the 600m.

LILLY OF THE FILLY – Bumped near the 600m. `

SPIRIT OF THE DAWN – Raced wide without cover.

SMOKE HAZARD – A post race veterinary examination of the gelding, which finished a distant last, revealed a poor post race recovery.

Race 2: Magic Millions National Sales QTIS 2yo H'cap – 1110m

MISHANI EL LOBO – Slow to begin. Had to be checked near the 600m away from heels.

CHARLEE BEAR – Jumped away awkwardly.

KITTY SOFTPAWS – Briefly tightened for room passing the 800m.

ENDLESS DAYS – Raced in restricted room near the 700m and had to be restrained.

DOUBLE SUPERLATIVE – Raced wide without cover. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the off foreleg. Lost off hind plate in running. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for the gelding prior to its next race start.

CRACK ME UP – Raced wide without cover.

LOVE SPY – J. Byrne, rider of the 3rd placegetter, was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts right out to the finish line.


Race 3: Hogs Breath Cafe Benchmark 75 H'cap – 2030m

NISSILE – Change of tactics. To be ridden just off the pace if circumstances permit. The horse raced in a forward position.

COLLATERAL - J. Taylor, rider of STRADAM, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he allowed his mount to shift in approaching the winning post on the first occasion when not fully clear of NISSILE, which was taken in on to KAISER FRANZ, which in turn shifted in, making contact with COLLATERAL, which had to be checked. J. Taylor was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 11 days, to commence at midnight, 9 April and to expire at midnight, 20 April. Held up in the early stages of the straight. Had to be checked away from heels near the 150m.

TORBAY – Checked off heels near the 600m.

VODNIK – Held up in the early stages of the straight. Steadied momentarily near the 250m.

SATIRICAL BOY – Jockey A. Allen reported that the gelding commenced to hang out from the 1000m and for the remainder of the race.

LEGSMAN – Raced wide throughout without cover.


Race 4: Love U Lauren Dooley Open H'cap – 1110m

PINCH RIVER – Jumped away awkwardly. Shifted wider on the track near the 800m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

KUDERO – Raced erratically for some distance approaching the 800m and had to be checked away from heels. Trainer B. Lockwood was advised that a warning would be placed on the horse regarding its racing manners.

FLYING RIDDLE – Steadied away from heels near the 700m.

WHISKEY ALLROUND – Shifted out abruptly passing the 800m despite the efforts of its rider. Hung out making the home turn. Trainer T. Gollan was advised that a warning would placed against the gelding.

Following this race the track rating was upgraded to Good 4.


Race 5: Motorama QTIS 1MW Win H'cap – 1200m

CASHING UP – Jockey M. Cahill replaced the indisposed apprentice S. Fawke when no apprentice jockey was available.

MAHICAN – Bumped on jumping away. Apprentice C. Schmidt, rider of APPLE THIEF, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that near the 600m she allowed her mount to shift out when not clear of MAHICAN, resulting in that horse having to be checked. Apprentice Schmidt was suspended from riding in races for a period of 9 days, to commence at midnight, 10 April and to expire at midnight, 19 April.

APPLE THIEF – Jumped away awkwardly and then was tightened for room shortly after the start.

GREAT INAGUA – Jumped away awkwardly.

COURT’S STAR – Had to be steadied away from heels near the 600m.

SIR KNOX – Held up in the early stages of the home straight.


Race 6: Andrew Goves 40th Birthday QTIS 3yo H'cap – 1350m

TAILEVENT – Jockey B. Stewart was fined $200 for returning to scale overweight.

OBERLAND - Jockey B. Stewart, rider of TAILEVENT, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 800m he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of CONFRONTING, resulting in jockey M. McGillivray having to take hold and ease his mount, which in turn tightened the running of OBERLAND, which lost its rightful running. Jockey Stewart was suspended from riding in races for period of 12 days, to commence at midnight, 3 April and to expire at midnight, 15 April. In assessing penalty, stewards took into account the midrange interference and jockey Stewart’s guilty plea.

CONFRONTING – Obliged to ease approaching the 800m.

PLANET AMERICA - Unable to obtain clear running in the home straight.


Race 7: The Flash By Zing Pop Culture Open H'cap – 1630m

HONEY TOAST - Made contact with the outside running rail during the preliminary, and was examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

MISHANI WARRIOR – Slow to begin.

PERPLEXITY – Slow to begin.

AVALANCHES – Held up rounding the home turn.

IGGI POP – Disappointed for clear running between horses near the 250m.

LAUTERBRUNNEN –Trainer R. Heathcote reported that jockey M. Cahill advised him that the horse was inclined to hang out throughout and was reluctant to stretch out in the straight. He indicated he would have veterinary surgeon examine the horse on Monday and undertook to report any findings to stewards. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

LOCK’S LEGEND – Apprentice L. Dittman, rider of TARLOSHAN, pleaded guilty of a charge of careless riding, in that he allowed his mount to shift in near the 1400m when not fully clear of LOCK’S LEGEND, resulting in J. Orman having to take hold of that gelding to avoid the heels of TARLOSHAN. Apprentice Dittman was suspended from riding in races for a period of 9 days, to commence at midnight, 6 April and to expire at midnight, 15 April.

Race 8: In A Galaxy Far Away, By Zing Pop Culture Class 6 H'cap – 1350mm

FOREVER CRAZY – Trainer T. Gollan was fined $200 for failing to declared a rider for the horse by the prescribed time. Slow to begin.

BECKHAM – Slow to begin. Shifted out away from heels at the entrance to the straight. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey J. Lloyd stated that after being slow to begin he settled further back than anticipated and, in his opinion, this had a detrimental effect on its performance and performs best when being able to settle in a forward position. A post race veterinary examination revealed it had been galloped on on the off hind leg.

ZEDFAST – Slow to begin. Held up in the early stages of the straight.

FRIENDLY DRAGON – Tightened for room between runners near the 1200m.

ALLKNIGHT SAINT - Pulled hard in the early stages.

SHOW HARMONY – Tightened for room between runners near the 1200m. Pulled hard in the early and middle stages. Hampered by another runner when weakening near the 300m when it shifted out.

GID UP STROP – Inconvenienced near the 200m by another runner to its inside which shifted out.

COL ‘N’ LIL – Raced wide without cover.
