GENERAL

From Doomben, 14.5.16 – Race 8.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, BRAZEN (B. Rawiller) was obliged to be eased to avoid the heels of I’M BELUCCI, which improved quickly to the inside of KUTTAMURRA AL, which simultaneously KUTTAMURRA AL moved in slightly. Stewards could not be satisfied that this incident could be attributed to the carelessness of any one rider and took no direct action.

Race 7

Jockey G. Colless was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that over the concluding stages he permitted his mount to shift in, taking TWO BLUE inwards, which was crowded onto DELECTATION and ARTLEE, both of which were crowded and severely checked. Jockey G. Colless was suspended from riding in races for a period of 17 days, to commence at midnight, 28 May and to expire at midnight 14 June.



Race 1: IPG Connect De Beers H'cap – 1050m

OFFICE BEARER – Trainer J. Coyle was fined the sum of $100 for presenting the horse without blinkers. Blinkers were subsequently added to the horse behind the barriers.

DIVINE SERVICE – Reared up in the barriers and became cast. The gelding was subsequently removed from the gates and declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 12.12 pm with the following deductions applicable.

10 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #4
18 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #5

Trainer D. Hansen was advised that he must provide a barrier certificate prior to the mare racing again.

SELITA – Soon after the start was hampered when tightened for room between DON’T TEASE ME and VIENNA QUEEN, which shifted in slightly. Bled from both nostrils during the event. Connections were advised that the mare would be barred from racing for a period of 3 months.

DON’T TEASE ME – Jockey J. Lloyd reported at scale his mount slipped on jumping away.

VIENNA QUEEN – Trainer T. Gollan reported the mare had been galloped on on the off hind leg and had lost its off hind plate.


Race 2: Herbert Smith Freehills Benchmark 85 H'cap – 2000m

EXPLOSIVE ONE – Change of tactics. Connections advised from the good gate the intention will be to try and lead. Jockey G. Colless reported that after beginning awkwardly his saddle shifted to the near-side which placed him at a disadvantage until passing the winning post on the first occasion. Had to be eased to avoid the heels of SNAPPER SIREN near the 200m when SNAPPER shifted out when not fully clear. Jockey R. Wiggins, rider of SNAPPER was severely reprimanded and advised to stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.

ADORABEEL – Change of tactics. Connections advised that the intention will be to gain cover, however if that is not possible will improve forward. When the mare travelled strongly in the early stages it was allowed to stride forward and obtain the lead.

SNAPPER – Overraced in the early and middle stages.

IMPERIAL LASS – Momentarily inconvenienced when tightened for room by WALHAAN near the 1500m.

ASTRONOMOS – A post race veterinary examination revealed a mild case of the thumps. A routine swab sample was taken from the horse.


Race 3: McGrath Estate Agents Hampden Stakes QTIS 2yo Plate – 1200m

SUNDANCE – Change of tactics. Connections advised that the horse will be ridden back from the wide gate. The horse was ridden accordingly. Overraced in the early stages and passing the 800m had to shift wider on the track to avoid the heels of REAL CLASSIC. Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight.

ARCHIVES – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and altered course to the inside of BALTIC WHISPER in order to improve soon after straightening.

REAL CLASSIC – Had difficulty securing clear running in the home straight until passing the 200m.

JERICHO – Laid in under pressure over the final 200m.

LIPSYNC – Raced 3 wide without cover. Jockey R. Wiggins had his whip knocked from his grasp by the whip of jockey B. Shinn, rider of JERICHO, inside the 100m.


SPRING TYCOON – Raced 3 wide.


Race 4: City Property Services Bright Shadow H'cap – 1200m

TINA MELINA – Reared in the barriers. The horse was withdrawn from the gates, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

FRILL SEEKING – Slow to begin. Bumped on a couple of occasions near the 500m

ADORABBLE – Began awkwardly.

ALL SALSA – Hampered when bumped at the start. Became awkward and shifted out near the 500m and bumped FRILL SEEKING on a couple of occasions.

ZESTFUL – Raced 3 wide without cover.

MISS COVER GIRL – Raced 3 wide throughout.


Race 5: Darley BRC Sprint H'cap – 1350m

TERONADO – Jockey G. Colless reported that after being slow to begin his mount was reluctant to race and never travelled comfortably throughout.

COOLRING – Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages of the race. When asked to explain the disappointing performance, rider J. Lloyd stated that when he was unable to cross RELIGIFY and obtain the lead in the early stages, it commenced to race very fiercely and weakened in the home straight. He added that, in his view, it may have come to the end of its current preparation. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer B. Baker indicated to stewards that it was now his intention to send the gelding for an immediate spell.

ROCK STURDY – Held up for clear running over the final 200m when awkwardly placed at the heels of SURE AND FAST and as a result ROCK STURDY went to the line not fully tested by its rider.

CHARMED HARMONY – Was inclined to lay out in the middle stages. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

RELIGIFY – Lost its near hind plate in running.


Race 6: Magic Millions The Roses QTIS 3yo Fillies Plate – 2000m

Prior to correct weight stewards considered an application from jockey D. Browne that FALKENBURG was denied a fair start due to it having its off hindleg on the barrier partition prior to the start being effected. After taking evidence from D. Browne, trainer P. Snowden and the official starter Mr I. Smith, stewards denied the request as they were of the view that the horse's barrier manners was the reason why the horse missed the start and correct weight semaphored.

LOOK TO THE STARS – Jumped away awkwardly. Bumped heavily on the hind quarters passing the winning post on the first occasion. Jockey B. Spriggs, rider of LOOK TO THE STARS, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding in that near the 1100m he attempted to shift out and made heavy contact with THEMIS, and soon afterwards had to shift back to the rail when unable to move THEMIS wider on the track, resulting in LOOK TO THE STARS having to check to avoid the heels of BACKSTREET LOVER at this stage. Jockey Spriggs was suspended from riding in races for a period of 13 days, to commence at midnight, 22 May and to expire at midnight, 4 June.

MYSTIC OPAL – Restrained from heels near the 900m. Shifted in and bumped another runner passing the winning post.

IMPOSING LASS – Raced 3 wide in the early stages and to a point near the 1000m.

THEMIS – Bumped heavily near the 1000m by LOOK TO THE STARS, which attempted to shift off the fence in order to improve.

DULVERTON – Held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn.

DAWNIE PERFECT – Briefly tightened for room near the 300m between QUEEN OF WANDS and ALASKAN ROSE.

AMBIENCE – Jockey B. Stewart, rider of MYSTIC OPAL, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that passing the 1600m he rode in a careless manner by allowing his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of AMBIENCE and as a result jockey J. McDonald had to severely check his mount. FALKENBERG, which was racing on the fence, also had to be inconvenienced. Jockey Stewart was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 13 days and to commence at midnight, 28 May and to expire at midnight, 10 June. Held up for clear running in the home straight until after passing the 200m.

SEBRING SALLY – Raced 3 wide throughout.

FALKENBERG - Had to be eased when tightened for room passing the 1600m.

Race 7: Hardy Brothers Doomben Cup – 2000m

LEEBAZ – Pulled hard in the early and middle stages.

OUR IVANHOWE – Shifted in near the 600m and had to be steadied from the heels of HAURAKI.

LADY LE FAY – B. Spriggs, rider of MAURUS, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding, in that he permitted his mount to shift out near the 600m when not clear of LADY LE FAY, resulting in that runner being severely hampered and pushed wider on the track. Jockey Spriggs was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 13 days, to commence at midnight, 22 May and to expire at midnight, 4 June, to be served concurrently with the careless riding suspension incurred in Race 6.


Race 8: Sky Racing Fred Best Classic QTIS 3yo Plate - 1350m

SIR BACCHUS – Stewards gave Chris Waller approval for blood tests to be taken from the gelding yesterday. Mr Waller was subsequently satisfied with the results which he forward to stewards.

TIVACI – Slow to begin.

HAVASAY – When overracing near the 900m had to be checked from the heels of RANGIPO. Passing the 800m again had to be checked from the heels of RANGIPO.

PERFECT DARE – Overraced in the early stages and for some distance approaching the passing the 800m had to be restrained from the heels of IN HIS STRIDE.

PRIVLAKA – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight.

SOLD FOR SONG – Held up for clear running in the home straight until passing the 200m where it was shifted in and made heavy contact with CASHING UP.

CASHING UP – Bumped heavily near the 200m. Raced 4 wide without cover.

RAGEESE – Raced extremely wide without cover throughout. An inquiry was adjourned into the reason for the horse being checked near the 100m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have been galloped on on the near hind leg.

COUNTERATTACK – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
