Trainer B. Wakefield reported that Denarious had suffered bruising to both eyes and this may have contributed to the gelding’s poor performance.

Race 1: Ubet Breakfast Show Maiden H’cap – 1050m
 
JEST EXCEL – Declared a late scratching at 8.25 am on veterinary advice.
 
AWESOME MORE – As A. Timbery was overweight,  A. Spinks was substituted as the rider of the mare. Tightened passing the 1000m.  P. Timbery will be interviewed regarding this matter.
 
MAAYIIRR – Jumped away awkwardly and lost ground. Tightened passing the 1000m.
 
ALSEEYA – Attempted to buck passing the 1000m and then shifted in abruptly, tightening the running of horses to its inside.  
Race 2: The Paul “Dogsy” Dolan Maiden Plate – 1615m
 
LUJAC – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, bumping another runner.  Forced wider on the track from the 700m.
 
OSCAR THE ENCOSTA – Bumped shortly after the start.
 
A NEW SOUND – Bumped on the hind quarters shortly after the start. Had to be steadied to avoid heels passing the 800m.
 
MONTANA PINES – Shortly after the start was hampered when tightened for room. Raced wide until approaching the 800m.
 
MARK MY WORD – Shifted out near the 750m to avoid heels, forcing another runner wider.
 
 
Race 3:The Neil “Lofty” Stevenson Ratings Ban 0-70 H’cap – 1615m
 
HEART STEALER – The start was delayed when the tongue-tie on the horse had to be refitted.
 
SURFACE TENSION – Bumped on jumping away.
 
SCOUTABOUT – Bumped on jumping away.
 
REALLY REILLY – Had to be checked near the 300m when disappointed for a run between horses, then shifted back to the inside to obtain clear running near the 200m.
 
NEARCTIC CHILLER  – Jockey R. Wiggins reported at scale that, in his opinion, his mount did not appreciate the firm track conditions today. A post race veterinary examination of the horse revealed cardiac arrhythmia. Connections were advised that the horse must trial satisfactorily and the results of an ECG provided to stewards prior to its next race start.
 
 
Race 4: The Past The Post QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1200m
 
POPIGAI – Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $100 for failing to produce the Document of Description for the horse.  POPIGAI – Bumped on jumping away, losing ground.
 
MADLUCE MISSILE – Slow to begin. (2L)
 
CLASSAY – Shifted out and bumped another runner approaching the 400m.
 
SON OF  A BRUT – Bumped approaching the 400m and taken wider.
 
VANILLA JEWEL – Raced wide throughout.
 

 
Race 5: The Graham Turner QTIS 3yo Maiden H’cap – 1200m
 
HEMSWORTH – Slow to begin.
 
ABERLADY – Jockey M. Cahill reported that his mount hung out after leaving the 800m and continued to do so until entering the home straight.
 
HUSSON BOOTS – Had to be steadied from heels approaching the 600m.
 
NEVER SO SIRIUS – Approaching the 600m had to be steadied away from heels.
 
 
Race 6: The John “Bunny” Brasch F&M Class 3 H’cap – 1200m
 
KIM NOIR – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
SAYS ME – Jumped away awkwardly.  Raced wide in the early stages.
 
CLANG’S VICTORY – Shifted in and bumped another runner approaching the winning post.
 
EIGHT BELOW – Had to be steadied approaching the winning post.
 
LOVE A ROSE – Bumped approaching the winning post.
 
MY GIRL HAYLEY – Lost its near fore plate in running.
 
 
Race 7: The Steve Hewlett Class 2 H’cap – 1350m
 
HAVANNA CIGAR – Change of tactics. Connections advised that the horse would be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.  Bumped by another runner after leaving the 300m.
 
CATENACCIO – Change of tactics. Connections advised that from the good barrier to be ridden more forward if circumstances permit. The horse settled towards the rear of the field.
 
WINSOME SAM – Slow to begin and then tightened for room shortly after the start between runners.
 
CAFÉ TERRACE – Bumped and taken off its line by another runner after leaving the 300m.
 
WINDY SANDS – Apprentice A. Sewell was severely reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift out after leaving the 300m when not sufficiently clear of runners to his outside.
 
 
 
 
 
 
Race 8: 25 Years Of Radieo TAB Benchmark 75 H’cap – 1350m
 
TIPS AND BEERS – Change of tactics. To be ridden more quietly if circumstances permit. The horse was ridden accordingly.
 
SPICE OF LIFE – Slow to begin.
 
ROXY RHYTHM – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
TAMBO’S HEART – Slow to begin. Following the disappointing performance, trainer  S. Kendrick advised stewards that in light of today’s performance he would discuss the gelding’s immediate future and that he may consider sending the horse for a spell, adding that he  would advised stewards of any abnormality that comes to light in the following days.
