Race 1: Mekka Raceday Ratings Band 0-70 H’Cap – 1350m
 
SEEKING ASYLUM – Overraced in the early stages.  Had difficulty securing clear running in the early stages of the home straight.
 
SELFIE – Had to be restrained from heels passing the 800m when overracing and shifted wider on the track.
 
BELLS OF WAR – Overraced in the middle stages.
 
JUST AS LOYAL – Approaching the 100m was disappointed for a run between SELFIE and DRIVING WHEELS.
 
SHOTACROSS THE BOW – Raced wide throughout.
 
DRIVING WHEELS – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
Following the running of this race the track was upgraded to a Good 3 retrospective.
 
 
Race 2: Country Music Raceday QTIS 2YO H’Cap – 1050m
 
Trainer M. Dunn sought permission from stewards to take a blood test from SNITZ on Friday 28 July 2017 after he expressed slight concerns with the results of a blood sample taken earlier in the week.  Mr Dunn subsequently provided the results of the test to stewards and was satisfied SNITZ was suitable to race.
 
PERFECT RAIN – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
CABEIRIAN – Overraced in the early stages and had to be restrained from the heels of TOO EASY BRO on a number of occasions.  Brushed near the 300m.
 
BASARA – Shifted out to obtain clear running near the 300m and brushed CABEIRIAN.
 
TIMPERLEY – Had to alter course to the inside of FELINO BEL in order to improve passing the 200m.
 
FELINO BEL – Inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.
 
SPLITLOCK – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
DARKTOWN STRUTTER – Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.
 
WILLOWBROOK WONDER – Raced wide throughout.
 
SNITZ – Raced wide throughout.
 
SUERTE - Raced wide throughout.
 
PROOF PERFECT - Raced wide throughout and was disappointed for a run near the 300m and obliged to alter course.
 
BLACK MINK – App T. Brooker reported that the filly lost ground at the start after beginning awkwardly and shortly thereafter being hampered when tightened for room.  The filly then failed to muster speed despite her efforts in the early and middle stages and in her opinion it may not have appreciated today’s firm conditions.  Trainer L. Birchley advised the filly would be sent for an immediate spell.  A post race veterinary examination of the filly, which trailed the field throughout the event, revealed no significant abnormalities.  
 
Race 3: Canadian Club Benchmark 75 H’Cap – 1050m
 
Correct weight was delayed when the trainer of the fifth placegetter SOLDI DOMANI, Mr B. Dais requested to view the photo finish.  After viewing the photo he was satisfied with the placings and correct weight was declared.
 
SILIQUA – Slow to begin.
 
AMBER JEWEL – Slow to begin.  Hung out badly near the home turn.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.  Trainer C. Allardyce was advised that warning would be placed on the mare’s racing manners.
STELLARCRAFT – Rounding the home turn was held up for clear running.
 
NARDOO – Near the 250m was bumped heavily by SILIQUA, which shifted out to obtain clear running.  Raced wide throughout.
 
HIGH COST – Raced wide throughout.
 
TIN’S POCKET – Raced extremely wide without cover throughout.
 
SOLDI DOMANI – Raced wide without cover throughout.  Jockey R. Cuneen was reminded of his obligations at all times to ride his mounts out to the end of the race.
 

Race 4: D.A. Ernst Open H’Cap – 2000m
 
MONTEUX – Overraced badly in the early stages.  Approaching and rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight was held up for clear running.
 
CASHING UP – Pulled hard during the early stages.  Near the 350m became awkward at the heels of MR EPIC and shifted to the inside of that runner in order to improve.
 
MR EPIC – Passing the 1600m had to be restrained from the heels of ANTON EN AVANT.  After passing the 1200m when the pace was slow was allowed to stride forward and cross to the position outside the leader near the 900m.  Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages and brushed KING VIV.
 
KING VIV – Brushed and taken wider over the concluding stages by MR EPIC, which was shifting ground under pressure.
 
LOOPHOLE – Inclined to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 5: NFIA Class 3 Plate – 1600m
 
Trainer K. Schweida was fined $100 for the late declaration of App T. Brooker as the rider of ELJETEM.
 
Trainer D. Vandyke was fined $100 for the late declaration of T. Harrison as the rider of FRENCH TOAST.
 
STELLA GRIS – Slow to begin.
 
ELJETEM – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
TYCOON FLUTTER – Steadied soon after the start when tightened for room.  Had to be steadied passing the 400m from the heels of STELLA GRIS.
 
SWEET ADALINE – Leaving the 1400m had to be steadied when tightened for room. Overraced in the early stages and shifted out near the 1300m to avoid the heels of KEL’S SHADOW.  Following which was placed in a 3 wide position and then allowed to stride forward to obtain the lead near the 800m. 
 
LASCAR – Hampered and taken wider on the track passing the 1300m.  Raced 3 wide without cover throughout and was inclined to lay in passing the 600m proving difficult to ride.
 
Jockey L. Dittman the rider of GOULDIAN was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137(a) in that he permitted his mount to shift in approaching the 1300m when not clear of FRENCH TOAST, which had to be steadied and taken inwards across the rightful running of KEL’S SHADOW, which had to be checked and clipped the heels of FRENCH TOAST.  Jockey Dittman’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of nine (9) days to commence midnight 29 July 2017 and expire midnight 7 August 2017.
 
 
Race 6: Limes Hotel & Rooftop Bar QTIS 3YO H’Cap – 1600m
 
Trainer L. Birchley was fined $100 for the late declaration of App T. Brooker as the rider of HEART SKIPT A BEAT.
 
LUCY LE ROC – Overraced in the early stages.  Bumped heavily approaching the 1300m.
 
BRICKHALL – Had to be steadied when racing in restricted room passing the 1400m.
 
ENDLESS DAYS – Commenced to race fiercely approaching the 1300m and had to be restrained from the heels of REAL MYSTIQUE, shifted out and bumped LUCY LE ROC heavily.
 
HEART SKIPT A BEAT – Raced 3 wide in the early stages and was allowed to stride forward to obtain a position outside the leader near the 900m.
 
IRON CRAFT – Hung out rounding the turn near the 800m and raced 3 wide from that point.
 
REAL MYSTIQUE – Inclined to hang out approaching the 400m and became awkward at the heels of RHYMING. 
 
RHYMING – Hung in rounding the home turn and was under pressure in the home straight.  Jockey L. Cassidy stated that the filly was disappointing and in his opinion may have come to the end of its current racing preparation.  Trainer S. Tregea confirmed the filly will now be sent for a spell.
 
REAL CLASSIC – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
 
Race 7: Smirnoff Pride QTIS 3YO H’Cap – 1600m
 
SICARIO - Broke through the barriers after being loaded, was quickly restrained by its rider, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.  Held up rounding the home turn behind the heels of the tiring WINDMILL FOLLIES.
 
CLEVER BLAZE – Slow to begin.
 
RESET ME I’M WILD – Had to be steadied passing the 1400m when briefly tightened for room between MEET AND GREET and KUBIS.   When questioned regarding the poor performance jockey J. Byrne stated that the gelding never felt comfortable in its action today, which he attributed to the firm surface.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities and a routine swab sample was taken.
 
EAT MY TRUST – Overraced badly in the early stages.
 
REDHAZE – Raced 3 wide throughout.
 
GYPSY MISS – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.
 
WINDMILL FOLLIES - Jockey T. Harrison explained the filly was inclined to hang out on the bends.  Jockey Harrison added that on straightening she endeavoured to place the filly under pressure but it did not respond and because of the manner in which it was racing she did not persist in riding it out.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings.
 
 
Race 8: Spring Racing @ BRC Open H’Cap – 1350m
 
COMACINA – Slow to begin.  Approaching the 600m improved onto the heels of STEEL ZIP and had to be restrained.
 
SAVOUREUX – Slow to begin.
 
OXFORD POET – Passing the 800m commenced to overrace and shifted out.
 
COUNTER MEAL – Taken wider near the 800m and raced 3 wide from that point.
 
AOMEN – Raced wide without cover throughout.  Jockey T. Harrison reported at scale the gelding did not appreciate today’s firm track.
 
RULING FORCE – Stewards questioned App T. Brooker regarding her riding in the home straight and the reason for her not taking advantage of a run between STEEL ZIP and LORDAG near the 150m.  App Brooker explained that RULING FORCE was travelling well upon straightening and was held up for clear running until passing the 200m.  App Brooker added that she considered improving into a run between STEEL ZIP and LORDAG however, when she angled her mount to take advantage of that run STEEL ZIP shifted out slightly and she was concerned there was not sufficient room to improve and for this reason she shifted to the outside of the heels of LORDAG in order to improve.  Stewards noted her explanation.

 
Race 9: #BNERACES QTIS 2YO & 3YO Plate – 1200m
 
OF THE DAY – Slow to begin.
 
EXCELEBRAZIONE – Hampered at the start.
 
OINK – Hampered at the start.  Unable to improve its position from the 600m until entering the home straight when awkwardly placed at the heels of EXCELEBRAZIONE.
 
SAXTON ROCK – Hampered at the start.  Near the 700m raced very ungenerously when being restrained.
 
LAUDERDALE – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly.  Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.  A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no significant findings apart from a minor abrasion on its off hind bumper.
 
MISHANI EL LOBO – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
MISHANI SLEUTH – Raced 3 wide throughout.
 
PUBLISHING POWER – Jockey J. Oliver could offer no tangible explanation for today’s disappointing performance.
 
 
Race 10: Events@BRC Benchmark 80 H’Cap – 1200m
 
Trainer N. McCall was fined $200 for failing to declare J. Orman as the rider of ROYAL OCCASION.
 
SORORITY SISTER – Hampered at the start. Hampered near the 900m.  Hampered when bumped soon after straightening.
 
MARKSFIELD – Commenced to race very fiercely passing the 900m and as a result shifted out from the heels of ESPIRITU.  Raced 3 wide without cover from that point.
 
THREE SHEETS – Had difficulty securing clear running in the home straight until the final 50m.
 
BACKSLAPPER – Raced 3 wide throughout.  When questioned regarding the performance App S. Lacy stated it was her intention to settle further forward in the field however, rather than being caught extremely wide she elected to take hold and settle in a midfield position.  App Lacy further added she was forced wider on the home turn and in her view the gelding finished the race off well.
