The start of this race was delayed initially when BACK THE ROCK, which reared on several occasions in its barrier, was removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

The start was further delayed when MEANER became very fractious in the barriers after being loaded and lunged forward on multiple occasions, its head making contact with the front gate. Acting on veterinary advice, stewards declared MEANER a late scratching at 1:49 pm. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on MEANER be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 1:49 pm:

The start of this race was delayed when RED GARTER reared over in the barriers and became cast and took a significant period to be removed from under the barriers, and once was removed was declared a late scratching at 2:34 pm by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice. On the announcement of correct weight stewards ordered that all monies invested on RED GARTER be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers placed prior to 2:34 pm:

0 cents in the dollar for the win #4
1 cent in the dollar for place of winner #4
1 cent in the dollar for 2nd place #14
1 cent in the dollar for 3rd place #10

The veterinary surgeon reported post-race that RED GARTER had sustained no significant injuries, however had dislodged a tooth. Connections were advised that the horse will require a veterinary clearance and a further barrier certificate prior to its next start.

The start was further delayed when MY BOY SAM and CRAIGLEA LIZZY, which were drawn in the adjoining barriers to RED GARTER, were also removed, examined by the veterinary surgeon and deemed fit to start. Whilst undergoing the veterinary examinations all other runners were removed from the barriers.

After viewing the patrol footage, S. Galloway, the rider of PRIMO AGOSTO, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against MY BOY SAM being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 150m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos it was established that MY BOY SAM shifted outwards under pressure over the final 150m and shortly after PRIMO AGOSTO commenced to lay in under pressure and that approaching the 100m PRIMO AGOSTO became awkwardly placed at the heels of MY BOY SAM, which had continued to shift out. In the circumstances stewards could not be satisfied, bearing in mind the proximity of the interference to the finish, the manner in which both horses finished the race off and the margin of half a length separating them at the finish, that had the interference not occurred PRIMO AGOSTO would have beaten MY BOY SAM and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.

Laid in under riding approaching the 100m and became awkwardly placed at the heels of MY BOY SAM, which shifted out.

Following this event apprentice S. Thornton, the rider of RED GARTER, was examined by the Club doctor and cleared to fulfil her remaining engagements.
