Doomben barrier trials 17th February 2022 - Heat 6

Stewards inquired into an incident at the 800m which resulted in both SINO DEFEAT (M. Wishart) and KIANDRA GOLD (L. Kilner) falling. After taking evidence from riders L. Kilner, M. Wishart, S. Collett (SCISSORHANDS) and L. Cassidy (SOUTHERN STOCK), and after reviewing the available footage, it was established that at a point nearing the 800m, SCISSORHANDS shifted out marginally at the same time that SINO DEFEAT shifted in marginally whilst being restrained, which resulted in SINO DEFEAT clipping the heels of SCISSORHANDS and falling, and the trailing KIANDRA GOLD being unable to avoid the fallen SINO DEFEAT and also falling.

Stewards were unable to apportion blame to any rider and took no further action other than to note the circumstances. As a result of this incident, SINO DEFEAT sustained a significant shoulder injury and was euthanased on humane grounds.
