Race 1: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap 1200 metres
 
ZELGARIA – Began awkwardly. Near the 100m, had to be directed off the heels of TRICKETEER, which shifted out.
 
TRICKETEER – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
OCEANS OF ENERGY – Began awkwardly.
 
RINGER'S REWARD – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Passing the 250m, attempted to shift out around the heels of OCEANS OF ENERGY and in doing so, contacted ALOLA.
 
ALOLA – Began awkwardly and bumped ZELGARIA. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Momentarily inconvenienced at the 250m, when contacted by RINGER’S REWARD.  
 
MORE THAN YOU – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early and middle stages.
 
 
Race 2: FAMILY RACEDAY APRIL BENCHMARK 90 Handicap 2200 metres
 
FAST TALKING – Apprentice K. Wilson-Taylor was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m, being two more than permitted.
 
BARADE (FR) – Slow to begin and failed to muster early gate speed. Passing the 1000m was allowed to shift wider in an attempt to improve and raced wide for the remainder.
 
MUBARIZ (GB) – Slow to begin.
 
WARP SPEED – Held up for clear running from the 400m until entering the home straight.
 
SCARLET TUFTY (FR) – Apprentice A. Jones was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, being one more than permitted.
 
 
Race 3: ROSS TINNISWOOD OPEN Handicap 1615 metres
 
Following the running of race 2, the track was upgraded to a Soft (6).
 
ESTI FENY (HUN) – Underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed a poor post race recovery and lost the near fore plate in running.
 
DERULO – Raced wide in the early stages.
 
STUTTERING – Fractious in the barriers. Over raced in the early stages.
 
SAGACIOUS – Apprentice A. Jones was reprimanded under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m, being two more than permitted.
 
HONORABLE SPIRIT – Restrained from the barrier to take up a position at the rear of the field.  
 
DUNE FORTY FIVE – Momentarily held up on entering the home straight, and was obliged to shift in to improve.
 
LORD MARKEL (NZ) – Disappointed for a run entering home straight between STUTTERING and DERULO. As a result had to shift across the heels of DERULO in an attempt to improve.
 
 
Race 4: SKY RACING Class 3 Plate 1050 metres
 
DERRY GROVE – Began awkwardly. Passing the 700m had to be steadied after improving onto heels and shifting wider as a result. When questioned regarding the performance of his mount, jockey D. Thornton stated that DERRY GROVE over raced and when asked for a finishing effort in the home straight, weakened noticeably.
 
MOUETTE – Knuckled on jumping.
 
PUTONTHEREDLIGHT – Raced in restricted room near the 500m.
 
CLAIRVUE STAR – Began awkwardly. Passing the 700m, had to be steadied after improving onto heels. Passing the 250m, had to take evasive action and shift in to avoid AIRSTRIKE which shifted in abruptly. Jockey M. Wishart, rider of AIRSTRIKE was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) for shifting in abruptly at an acute angle forcing jockey Loy (CLAIRVUE STAR) to take evasive action and lose his rightful running. Jockey M. Wishart’s license to ride in races was suspended for ten days commencing midnight the 14th of April 2023 until midnight the 24th of April 2023. Jockey Wishart was advised of her right to an appeal.
 
DEEP STATE – Approaching the 800m, whilst over racing, had to be restrained off heels.
 
 
Race 5: XXXX DRY Colts, Geldings and Entires BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 1350 metres
 
SWANSTON – Raced wide throughout. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
CHARGE ON (NZ) – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped PATTON. Raced wide from the 800m.
 
FIELD REGIMENT – Over raced during the middle stages.
 
HARLEQUIN FIELD – Held up on entering the home straight until the 150m.
 
THE GENERAL (NZ) – Over raced and laid out throughout. Lost the near fore plate in running.
 
PATTON – Began awkwardly. Passing the 700m, when over racing, had to be restrained off heels. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
APPLECROSS – Began awkwardly.
 
A BIG CHANCE – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
 
Race 6: CASCADE Fillies and Mares BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 1350 metres
 
The start of this race was delayed when BULLOO proved difficult to load.
 
DA PARTY GAL – Rider J. Orman reported at scale that his mount hung out throughout. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
XTRA GEAR – Passing the 600m, was momentarily inconvenienced and carried in by DEEP SCIEVA which improved to that runner’s inside. Jockey T. Harrison commented that the mare raced flat today. Post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities apart from a minor abrasion on the off hindlimb.
 
BULLOO – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and elected to shift in to obtain clear running. Approaching the 200m disappointed for a narrow run and as a result became awkwardly placed on heels and as a result had to shift wider to obtain clear running.
 
GEE BEE ESS – Began awkwardly. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
SABALENKA (NZ) – Held up on entering the home straight.
 
EPICURIOUS – Jockey M. Cahill reported that on jumping his saddle shifted back resulting in EPICURIOUS failing to take any competitive part in the event.  
 
EVRYNOW'N'THEN – Stewards accepted trainer Mr V. Heading’s explanation for the late declaration of rider. Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 7: MEKKAFEST AUGUST 3YO QUALITY HANDICAP 1200 metres
 
CLEARLY GEORGE – Stewards accepted trainer Mr V. Heading’s explanation for the late declaration of rider.
 
JUKEBOX GLOW – Trainer C. Munce was fined $200 under the provisions of LR67(1) for the late declaration of rider.
 
LUBRICATION – Jumped awkwardly. Momentarily held up for clear running, shifted out and contacted MEMORIA.
 
BURNISH GOLD – As the pace of the race slackened approaching the 1000m became awkwardly placed on heels and had to be restrained. Rider J. Byrne commented at scale that the filly failed to handle the track conditions. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to displaying cardiac arrythmia. Co-trainer Mr R. Lipp was advised that BURNISH GOLD will require a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG, and must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
SAILOR'S SECRET – Hampered on jumping. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
 
EN POINTE – Began awkwardly, shifted out and contacted SAILOR’S SECRET.
 
MEMORIA – Bumped on entering the home straight.
 
SPIRIT QUEEN – Over raced in the early stages.
 
Race 8: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW BENCHMARK 85 Handicap 1200 metres
 
HAUNTED – Raced wide throughout.
 
STARVIRGO – Began awkwardly. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in the home straight, jockey M. Du Plessis stated that he initially anticipated shifting wider on entering the home straight around the heels of TILIANAM, but when asked for an effort his mount failed to improve around heels, and as such, he elected to shift in to attempt a run between VIRAL and HAUNTED. After urging his mount to improve into that run, his mount failed to quicken and as the run commenced to close, he had to shift back outwards around the heels of TILIANAM to improve into clear running. A  post race veterinary examination revealed no significant findings, apart from displaying clinical signs of the thumps.
 
TILIANAM (NZ) – Raced wide throughout.
 
ZUMA CALIFORNIA – Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer Mr C. Richardson was advised that the gelding will require a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
 
AMITY GAL – Raced in restricted room for a number of strides passing the 1000m.
 
THE DROVER – Lost the near fore plate in running.
 
 
Race 9: LADBROKES MARKET CONTROL BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1615 metres
 
CLYDE – Began awkwardly. Forced to steady shortly after jumping to avoid the heels of TOOTS IS TOPS, which shifted in. Raced wide throughout.
 
SEMAPHORE GIRL – Jumped away awkwardly. Had to be restrained to avoid heels shortly after jumping away.
 
TELEPHONE BOOTH – Over raced during the middle stages.
 
TENZING (NZ) – Hampered shortly after jumping.
 
GIVEITALLALI – Hampered shortly after jumping. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.
 
TOOTS IS TOPS – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted in. Raced wide in the early and middle stages.  Raced in restricted room passing the 200m, between CLYDE and TENZING, which shifted out to improve. J. Orman, rider of TENZING, was advised to take greater care when shifting ground in future. Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
FLYBRIDGE – Hampered shortly after jumping. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to displaying cardiac arrythmia. Trainer Mr B. Lockwood was advised that FLYBRIDGE will require a veterinary clearance, including the results of an ECG, and must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
