BRISBANE RACING CLUB

DOOMBEN WEDNESAY 28 FEBRUARY 2024

WEATHER – Fine   TRACK RATING –  Good 4         RAIL – +7m Entire course
PENETROMETER – 5.83

OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – J. Williamson
Stewards – B. Wright, A. Schofield, S. Fletcher, W. Wain, J. Mitchell (Assistant Steward), O. Legg (Cadet)

Race 1: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW MAIDEN HANDICAP 1640 Metres

The start of this race was delayed when DISCOVER dislodged the near hind plate. When the farrier was unable to attach the plate due to gelding being fractious, Stewards permitted the off hind plate to be removed and DISCOVER was cleared to race bare behind on both hind legs.

HAYAKU – When asked to comment on the speed that was set in the middle stages of the event whilst her mount was leading, apprentice C. Graham stated that when LET’SSHOWEM improved to the outside of her mount, she elected to allow her mount to quicken slightly to remain in the lead. However in hindsight, she believed that she would have been better served in steadying and LET’SSHOWEM to cross as she was of the view that both horses set too strong a tempo in this section of the race. Stewards were satisfied to report the circumstances.

DISCOVER (NZ) – Held up for clear running around home turn until leaving the 300m.

LET'SSHOWEM – Forced wider near the 1300m and was then permitted to stride forward to a position outside the lead near the 1000m. When asked to comment on the performance and the tactics adopted, jockey M. Rodd stated that it had not been his intention to lead, however when forced wider on the track in the early stages, he elected the to allow his mount to stride forward to obtain a position closer to the fence and did not wish to continue to pressure forward to the lead as it was the horses first start over 1600m and he felt that the tempo was genuine at that time.

CAESAR CAKE – Slow to begin.

TRUST A KITTY – Slow to begin. Became awkward in its action passing the 600m. Held up for clear running at the heels of weakening HAYAKU from the 300m until leaving the 200m.

Approaching the 300m shifted out to improve and made contact with WHISKY TRAIN. Jockey A. Thompson was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances as there was doubtful room to improve at this point.

The start of this race was significantly delayed owing to HOLYROOD GIRL requiring farrier attention to refit a displaced shoe.

ARISPHERE – Raced wide in the early stages.

CHEMIOSMOSIS - Tightened for room at the start. After passing the 1000m improved onto heels of HOLYROOD GIRL which was steadying to obtain cover and as a result had to be checked.

VOCALS – Bumped by HOLYROOD GIRL passing 900m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed lameness in the near fore. Trainer K. Purdy was advised that the mare would require a veterinary clearance before racing again. K. Purdy stated the mare would now be sent for a spell.

Race 6: MAGIC MILLIONS 11-12 MARCH BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1350 Metres

OUTBACK ACTION – Slow to begin and then crowded for room a short distance later. When asked to comment on the performance apprentice B. Wheeler stated it had been his intention to ride in a more forward position, however with the removal of the blinkers from the horse’s gear, the gelding was tardy away and unable to muster speed. He further added when restraining from heals near the 800m, the gelding raced ungenerously for a short distance with its head in the air. Lost the off hind plate in running.

TIP OF THE SPEAR (IRE) – Raced wide without cover.

THIS'LLBETHEONE – Hung out rounding the home turn.

BANDIT – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils. Race 7: XXXX GOLD CLASS 5 HANDICAP 1640 Metres

TONY BE – Slow to begin. When asked to comment on the performance, apprentice T. Fenlon stated that as the horse was coming back in distance, the pace was fast in the early stages and as such the gelding was unable to muster sufficient early speed and she was obliged to ride vigorously until near the 1200m in order to remain at the tail of the field. Apprentice T. Fenlon further added that TONY BE would appreciate being stepped back up in distance as the gelding was doing its best work over the concluding stages. Apprentice T. Fenlon was fined $300 under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m.
