SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

Race 3: WILLNOTQUIT (NZ) - Stewards charged Trainer K. Taplin pursuant LR68(1) for failing to withdraw final acceptor, WILLNOTQUIT(NZ) by the advertised scratching time, costing another horse a place in the race and was fined $300. In determining penalty, Stewards noted Trainer K. Taplin’s record and guilty plea.  
 
GENERAL
 
Stewards approved the following overweight –
Race 8: R. Maloney +0.5 (56kg)
 
Race 8: OSCAR ZULU - Stewards accepted the request for the late replacement of rider due to the conditions of the race being amended.  
 
Race 1: STRADBROKE SEASON BOOK NOW QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP       1110 M
 
ALPHA BRAVO – Apprentice C. Graham reported on return to scale that her mount failed to travel in the early stages.
 
MYTHBUSTA – Slow into stride
 
DIVINE DIAMONDS – Began awkwardly and as a result was slow into stride. Raced wide for the majority.
 
USEAPIN – Raced greenly during the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment on the performance of the USEAPIN in today’s event, Jockey M. Du Plessis stated that in his opinion, the filly had come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
Race 2: RACECOURSE VILLAGE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP       2020 M
 
ICHIBAN – Tightened shortly after the start.
 
MOSZUR – Shifted out on jumping away.
 
SUBAQUA – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
CALM BUCKLE (NZ) – Bumped with ELLE MAGIC at the start. Approaching the 1000m, became awkward in its action when racing in restricted room to the inside of RHODES which crossed to take a leading position. Jockey M. Du Plessis, the rider of RHODES was advised to exercise greater care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
 
RHODES – When questioned regarding the tactics adopted in today’s event, Jockey M. Du Plessis stated that he was instructed to go forward and lead as per RHODES recent racing pattern, and similar to when the gelding won at Ipswich on the 15th of February 2024. He further added that in his opinion the gelding may not have appreciated the step up in class, however would derive benefit from today’s event.
 
KAIROS LOUIE (NZ) – Tightened for room shortly after the start. Over raced during the early stages. Was momentarily held up upon entry to the home straight.
 
ELLE MAGIC – Bumped with CALM BUCKLE at the start. Was momentarily held up upon entry to the home straight.
 
THE MAGICIAN – Hampered shortly after the start.
 
BILPA MOREA (NZ) – Hung in throughout the event. Approaching the 100m, when hanging in, became awkwardly placed on the heels of KAIROS LOUIE (NZ). A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
 
Race 3: CASCADE BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP         2200 M
 
TAPILDOODLEDO (NZ) – Slow to begin. Approaching the 400m, improved onto the heels of SHEZADANDI. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
WARP SPEED – Held up rounding the home turn.
 
CHAYSE 'N' ARTIE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When asked to comment regarding the performance of CHAYSE ‘N’ ARTIE, Jockey B. Thornton stated that the gelding wasn’t suited with how today’s race was run and was disappointing. A post-race veterinary inspection revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
MAN OF HEART – Slow to begin.
 
SHEZADANDI – Held up rounding the home turn. Disappointed for clear running passing the 200m.
 
 
Race 4: LADBROKES CALCUTTA ON SALE NOW OPEN QUALITY HANDICAP        1200 M
 
MISHANI SNIPER – Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
NED'S GULLY – Had difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight and shifted wider approaching the 200m in an attempt to improve.
 
CIRCULARITY – Became awkwardly placed at heels over the concluding stages.
 
BRING ME KASH – Commenced to over race leaving the 800m and elected to shift out. Raced wide for the remainder of the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. When asked to comment, Jockey D. Smith reported that BRING ME KASH over-raced and in his opinion the gelding had come to the end of its preparation. Trainer D. Ward confirmed that BRING ME KASH would now go for a short spell.  
 
NASHIRA – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.  
 
 
Race 5: XXXX BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1615 M
 
COMMODUS – Began awkwardly. Apprentice M. Potgieter reported that it was his intention to settle further forward, however after beginning awkwardly, allowed COMMODUS to settle back in the field. He added that approaching the 600m, whilst over racing, he elected to shift wide without cover, in an attempt to settle the gelding.
 
BEEF WEEK PRINCESS – When asked to comment, Jockey D. Piesley stated that as the mare was first up from a short spell, in his opinion would derive benefit from today’s event. A post- race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
REDWOOD SHADOW (NZ) - Restrained from a wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail.
 
THIS'LLBETHEONE – Shifted in on jumping away.
 
WHODAT – Hampered on jumping when THIS'LLBETHEONE shifted in.
 
SIMPLY REFUSE – Slow to begin.  Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
Jockey J. Bayliss reported that after being slow away, his mount was tardy in the early and middle stages and was unable to make ground in the field over the concluding stages.

DANCETHENIGHTAWAY – Restrained from a wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail.
 
NORTHERN DECREE (NZ) – When asked to comment regarding the improved performance of NORTHERN DECREE (NZ), Trainer R. Heathcote stated that the gelding and been pleasing in its work leading into today’s event and in his opinion the racing conditions had been ideal. He further added that NORTHERN DECREE (NZ) is better when allowed to settle towards the rear of the field.
 
 
Race 6: DRINKWISE BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP         1110 M
 
EASY SINGLE – Bumped at the start.
 
MUSCHIALLI– Inconvenienced at the start, when APOPHIS shifted out as SHAMROCK LU shifted in.
 
SHAMROCK LU – Began awkwardly and shifted in, contacting MUSCHIALLI, resulting in SHAMROCK LU’s hindquarters being momentarily turned outwards.
 
JEMELDI – Bumped at the start.
 
APOPHIS – Reshod after losing its near fore plate in the race day stalls. Shifted out on jumping.
 
ZINGALONG - Savaged another runner over the concluding stages. Trainer T. Miller was advised that the gelding would now be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
 
 
Race 7: SKY RACING QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD FILLIES HANDICAP    1350 M
 
MISS CHENERY – Slow to begin. Over-raced during the middle stages. Passing the 600m, improved onto heels. Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
OCEANS OF ENERGY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
WAHINE GALAXY – Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
LAYDOWNLILY – Began awkwardly.
 
BETTERLETMEDANCE – Bumped rounding the home turn and was forced wider.
 
JEALOUS – Slow to begin.
 
 
Race 8: LADBROKES BET TICKER OPEN QUALITY HANDICAP         1350 M
 
SHIBLI (GB) – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping ARENTEE.
 
ARENTEE – Bumped at the start.
 
LINTHORPE LAD – Rade wide for the majority. Approaching the 300m, was bumped and taken wider.
 
AT WITZ END – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
 
OCEAN TREATY (NZ) – Raced wide for the majority. Held up rounding the home turn and was obliged to shift wider, bumping LINTHORPE LAD.
 
BAANONE (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
 
Race 9: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP    1350 M
 
MIYAKE – Jockey J. Bayliss reported at scale that he became concerned with the action of the gelding and elected not to ride MIYAKE out over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer G. Heinrich was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to MIYAKE racing again.
 
PATTON – Passing the 1100m, was carried in by TARPS who was carried in by CELESTIAL SOL.
 
EVOCATOR – Slow to begin. Had to be restrained passing the 600m, after improving onto heels. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
STARZAM – Passing the 1100m was severely hampered and contacted the running rail by DEMON DELIVERA who was carried in by PATTON who was carried in by TARPS who was carried in by CELESTIAL SOL, which shifted in when insufficiently clear.
 
BOLD AND LUCY – Approaching the 600m, had to be restrained after improving onto heels.
 
MAYFAIR SPIRIT (IRE) – Began awkwardly. Passing the 1100m was obliged to check and clipped the heels of STARZAM who was severely hampered and forced inwards, making contact with the running rail, by DEMON DELIVERA who was carried in by PATTON who was carried in by TARPS who was dictated by CELESTIAL SOL, which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice M. Castle, the rider of CELESTIAL SOL, in the presence of Jockey mentor R. Fradd pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant AR 131(a) in that passing 1100m, she allowed her mount CELESTIAL SOL to shift in, when insufficiently clear of TARPS (D. Thornton.)  As a result, Jockey D. Thornton had to check off heels and was carried in on to PATTON (J. Huxtable) who was carried in on to DEMON DELIVERA (K. Wilson-Taylor) and as a result Jockey K. Wilson- Taylor was obliged to take hold of his mount and was carried in onto STARZAM (C. Graham.) As a result of that shift STARZAM was hampered and contacted the running rail and subsequently carried in on to MAYFAIR SPIRIT (IRE) (B. Thornton) who had to check to avoid the heels of STARZAM and lost his rightful run. Apprentice M. Castles permit to ride in races was suspended for a period of 17 days to commence midnight the 18th of April 2024 and conclude on midnight the 5th of May 2024. In determining penalty, Stewards took into account Apprentice Castles guilty plea, her good record and the fact that she is an apprentice. Apprentice M.Castle was advised of her right to appeal. Trainer M. Hoystead advised that upon return to stable MAYFAIR SPIRIT (IRE) had sustained superficial lacerations to its near foreleg.
 
 
 
 
RITANI (NZ)– Hampered at the start. Over-raced in the middle stages
 
BROCKY – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Over raced during the middle stages.
 
TARPS – Passing the 1100m was carried in and obliged to check when CELESTIAL SOL shifted in when insufficiently clear. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its near hindleg. Trainer S. Morrisey was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to TARPS racing again.
 
DEMON DELIVERA – Passing the 1100m had to check when carried in by PATTON who was carried in by TARPS who was carried in by CELESTIAL SOL.
