Stewards permitted the following overweight:
 
Race 4: M. Palmer +0.5kg (55kg)
 
As Jockey K. Matheson was unwell, rider replacements were made as per the Raceday Summary Report. Jockey K. Matheson was advised that a medical clearance would be required prior to his next engagements.
 
Trainer L. Gough was fined $200 under LR 67(1) for the late declaration of rider on MERCIAN. 
 
Race 1: STRADBROKE SEASON BOOK NOW QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE        1110 M
 
The start of this event was delayed when SOUL PURSUIT refused to load. The filly was subsequently declared a late scratching at 11:30am. Trainer R. Heathcote was advised that the filly would require a further barrier certificateprior to racing again.
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on SOUL PURSUIT to be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
First:  CARRAVILLA – 25c win, 25c place
Second: PROVANCE – 18c place
Third: LA COMETA (NZ) – 25c place
 
MISHANI DESTINY – Buffeted between runners on jumping. Laid in approaching the 200m obliging Jockey J. Orman to stop riding and straighten his mount.
 
PROCLAIMER – Very slow to begin and lost ground. Raced greenly throughout. Jockey R Dolan advised that after being slow to begin, he was obliged to settled further back than anticipated.
 
PROVANCE – Began awkwardly and shifted out. Approaching the 500m, when racing greenly, momentarily steadied from the heels of ALECIA, which rolled out slightly. Approaching the 400m, rolled in slightly.
 
ZELEZNY – Knuckled on jumping. Raced wide for the majority.
 
ALECIA – Approaching the 400m, when racing tightly to the inside of PROVANCE, which laid in slightly, and to the outside of VALLEY OF OWLS, raced ungenerously and lost ground.
 
CARRAVILLA – Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
LA COMETA (NZ) – Bumped on jumping. Approaching the 100m, was brushed by TESSATORI and momentarily became unbalanced.
 
TESSATORI – Began awkwardly, was bumped and became unbalanced. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Approaching the 100m, whilst laying in brushed with LA COMETA (NZ).
 
VALLEY OF OWLS – Approaching the finishing line, improved onto the heels of TESSATORI and was obliged to shift wider.
 
 
Race 2: CASCADE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP   1110 M
TALTARNI FIELDS – Blundered on jumping. When placed under pressure in the home straight, raced greenly. Approaching the 200m, shifted out momentarily before being corrected. Laid out over the concluding stages.
 
ABOUT TO EXPLODE – Slow to begin. Leaving the 600m when the pace of the race slackened, improved onto the heels of BETTER BE SLICK and shifted outwards. Raced wide for the remainder of the event.
 
BETTER BE SLICK – Began very awkwardly, shifted in and lost ground. Near the 600m, improved onto the heels of BENNU and had to be steadied.
 
MERCIAN – Began awkwardly before being bumped on the hindquarters and became unbalanced. Approaching the 200m, raced in restricted room between TALTARNI FIELDS and ENCRYPTED ELEGANCE and was then obliged to shift wider when TALTARNI FIELDS shifted out marginally under pressure before being corrected by its’ rider.
 
TAKIN'HELL – Near the 900m raced ungenerously to the inside of ELECTRIC ARROW and lost ground.
 
ELECTRIC ARROW– Raced greenly during the early stages and over raced during the middle stages. Raced greenly   home straight.
 
ENCRYPTED ELEGANCE – Near the 200m, when racing tightly between MERCIAN and ADRANOS, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of ADRANOS after being carried outwards by MERCIAN.
 
 
Race 3: RACEZONE NATIONAL APPRENTICE RACE SERIES MAIDEN PLATE   2000 M
 
NO DOUBLE DIPPING – On entering the home straight, momentarily raced in restricted room to the inside of SISTINE CHAPEL, which shifted in slightly when tiring.
 
PUSH TURBO – Hampered on jumping. Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
ACES UP (NZ) – Raced wide during the early stages and over raced during the early and middle stages. Laid out in the early part of the home straight.
 
BREYTENBACH – Made the crossing awkwardly.
 
JUNGLE JET (NZ) – Slow to begin and lost ground. Raced wide throughout. Apprentice V. Corver was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using her whip on 8 occasions prior to the 100m, 3 more times than permitted.
 
IN THE PICTURE – Began awkwardly and shifted in brushing with HATASU. Approaching the 1900m was heavily bumped on a number of occasions and became unbalanced as a result of PARIAH ON FIRE being carried in by PUSH TURBO. Held up rounding the home turn and near the 200m, was obliged to shift nearer to the rail to obtain clear running.
 
COOL PROPHET – Held up in the early part of the home straight.
 
HATASU – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced keenly in the early stages. Steadied from heels near the 1200m.
 
PARIAH ON FIRE – Began very awkwardly and shifted out. Approaching the 1900m was taken inwards and tightened for running room resulting in the filly making heavy contact with IN THE PICTURE and becoming unbalanced. Over raced during the early and middle stages. Apprentice M. Potgieter the rider of PUSH TURBO, in the presence of Jockey Mentor R. Fradd pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant AR 131(a) in that approaching the 1900m, he allowed his mount to shift in, causing tightening to PARIAH ON FIRE, and as a consequence, caused PARIAH ON FIRE to be carried in onto IN THE PICTURE, resulting in both runners becoming severely unbalanced and losing their rightful running. Apprentice M. Potgeiter’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 14 days to commence midnight the 20th of April 2024 and to expire midnight the 4th of May 2024. Apprentice M. Potgeiter was informed of his right to appeal. Near the 800m, raced ungenerously.
 
 
Race 4: SKY RACING QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP         1350 M
 
Declared a late scratching at 12:49pm on veterinary advice after becoming fractious in the tie up stalls. Co Trainer A. Simpson was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on PRIDE OF SAVABELLA to be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
 
First:  ITALIAN RIVIERA - 0c win, 1c place
Second: AGE OF AQUARIUS – 6c place
Third: WAYFARER’s WAY – 10c place
 
AGE OF AQUARIUS – Began awkwardly. Leaving the 200m, put in an awkward stride.
 
CAPTAIN GOOD VIBES – Raced wide for the majority.
 
KENDYACATCHME – Slow to begin. Near the 800m was carried wider when BLACK ASSASIN, which was over racing, shifted out. Raced wide for the remainder of the event.
 
WAYFARER'S WAY – Approaching the 100m, put in an awkward stride.
 
BLACK ASSASSIN – Connections advised of a change of tactics in that Jockey S. Collet would attempt to settle further forward if circumstances permit. After being slow to begin, settled at the rear of the field. Commenced to over race passing the 1000m when the pace of the race slackened. Approaching the 800m, when over racing, shifted out and then raced wide for the remainder.
 
BITTEN BY A PRINCE – Leaving the 800m, steadied to avoid the heels of CAPTAIN GOOD VIBES.
 
ZEPHYRZ ZOOM – Bumped on jumping. Commenced to over race passing the 1000m when the pace of the race slackened. Leaving the 800m, raced very keenly and was obliged to check to avoid the heels of ITALIAN RIVIERA. Continued to over race until approaching the 600m.
 
 
Race 5: NECA QUEENSLAND MAIDEN HANDICAP         1200 M
 
CAREFUL MISSILE – Raced wide throughout.
 
BOOM IN THE DARK – Raced greenly when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
KIDSTON – Near the 800m, commenced to over race when the pace of the race slackened. Continued to over race for some distance before being obliged to steady from heels approaching the 600m.
 
TIPPED OFF – Leaving the 150m, laid out before being corrected by its rider.
 
KAMARIYA – Leaving the 150m, was obliged to take hold to avoid the heels of CAREFUL MISSILE, which shifted in under riding. Apprentice M. Potgieter the rider of CAREFUL MISSILE, in the presence of Jockey Mentor R. Fradd pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding pursuant AR 131(a) in that leaving the 150m, when racing in a position to the outside of KAMARIYA, made insufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in under riding, resulting in the racing room for KAMARIYA becoming restricted, and Apprentice B. Wheeler having to take hold and lose ground. Apprentice M. Potgeiter’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days to commence midnight the 20th of April 2024 and to expire midnight the 1st of May 2024. Stewards directed the period of suspension to be served concurrently with the suspension concurred in Race 3. Apprentice M. Potgeiter was informed of his right to appeal. Apprentice M. Potgeiter was advised that pursuant AR 144, he would be referred to the Riding Skills Panel for further assessment and tutorage.
 
DEER HUNTER – Slow to begin.
 
MYSTIC MAC – Laid out under pressure leaving the 200m.
 
MARGOT'S BULLSEYE – Jockey V. Duric reported at scale, that after beginning awkwardly, he was obliged to settle further back than anticipated.  Raced keenly approaching the 800m.  Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.
 
CHERBOURG – Restrained from a wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail. Over raced during the middle stages.
 
LUCIFER THE CAT – Raced wide for the majority.
 
 
Race 6: BUSY AT WORK NATIONAL APPRENTICE RACE SERIES CLASS 1 PLATE  1200 M
 
A LOT OF BOOTY – Approaching the 200m, became awkwardly placed at the heels of ZELGARIA and had to be steadied. As a result, A LOT OF BOOTY, shifted in and bumped heavily with PROSPERINA and became extremely unbalanced when forced back across the heels of ZELGARIA.
 
SQUEAK (NZ) – Leaving the 300m, had to be shifted in and away from the heels of HELL AND BACK when that runner was carried in by CRESSBROOK.
 
CRESSBROOK – Slow to begin. Over raced approaching the 900m, improved onto the heels of SURREAL ASCOT and shifted out. Laid out from a point approaching the 600m to 500m. Approaching the 300m, raced greenly and shifted in under pressure before being corrected by its rider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
HELL AND BACK – Approaching the 300m was bumped and carried inwards by CRESSBROOK. Approaching the 100m, was obliged to directed away from the heels of CRESSBROOK, which shifted in under riding.
 
PIVOTAL LAD – Began moderately. Held up from the 400m until the 100m.

UNDER TWENTY TWO – Approaching the 900m, was carried wider. Raced wide for the remainder of the event. Carried wider approaching the home turn.
 
ZELGARIA – Approaching the 900m, was carried wider. Raced wide for the remainder of the event. Near the 500m, was obliged to momentarily steady after improving onto the heels of CRESSBROOK. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained a minor laceration to its near hindleg.
 
LADY CHARTWELL – Approaching, the 900m was carried wider. Raced wide for the remainder of the event.
 
PROSPERINA – Restrained from a wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail. Bumped heavily with A LOT OF BOOTY near the 200m and became unbalanced.
 
SURREAL ASCOT – Near the 800m, had to be steadied from the heels of HELL AND BACK, which shifted in when insufficiently clear. Apprentice T. Fenlon the rider of HELL AND BACK was reprimanded for careless riding pursuant AR 131(a) for allowing her mount to shift ground when insufficiently clear. Over raced during the middle stages. Held up approaching the home turn. Approaching the 300m, had to be eased to avoid the heels of CRESSBROOK, which shifted in. As a consequence, SURREAL ASCOT was obliged to shift out and around from that runners’ heels, before again becoming awkwardly placed approaching the 200m and having to shift out and away from CRESSBROOK again.
 
Race 7: LADBROKES RACING CLUB BENCHMARK 75 HANDICAP    1660 M
 
TAPPY'S LAD (NZ) – Jockey P. Hamblin was reminded of his obligations to desist from using the whip when his mounts are out of contention.
 
BASARWA (NZ) – Held up in the early part of the home straight until leaving the 200m. Jockey A. Mallyon was reminded of his obligations in that he must not use his whip in an action that raises his arm above shoulder height.
 
GOLDEELUCK – Raced keenly during the middle stages. Rounding the home turn, became awkwardly placed on the heels of GRECIAN LASS and had to be steadied. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled bilaterally. As this was the first occasion, Co Trainer M. Sears was advised GOLDEELUCK would not be permitted to start in a race for a period of 3 months and must gallop 1000m in the presence of Stewards or trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to resuming.
 
MASCARET (GB) –Restrained from a wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail. Over raced during the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Jockey M. Du Plessis reported at scale that he was disappointed in MASCARET’s (GB) performance today however was in the opinion that the mare may appreciate softer track conditions.
 
TENZING (NZ) – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
GRECIAN LASS – Whilst weakening leaving the 150m, had to momentarily be eased from the heels of MILLWARD, which shifted in under pressure.
 
JUPITUS – Restrained from a wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rail. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight.
 
 
ASWAAT - Raced wide during the early stages. Carried wider leaving the 500m when MASCARET (GB) shifted out to improve.
 
MILLWARD – Raced wide during the early stages. Laid in under pressure approaching the 150m.
 
 
Race 8: XXXX GOLD QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1350 M
 
BORN FEARLESS – Approaching the 1200m raced keenly and improved onto the heels of CRYPTIC SOUND and shifted in. Steadied from heels approaching the 600m.
 
JONNY DA WOLF (NZ) – Jockey M. Du Plessis reported that his mount proved difficult to settle throughout the event.
 
ZINOTAR (NZ) – Bumped on jumping. Raced wide throughout. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding, Jockey K. Wilson- Taylor stated that in his opinion ZINOTAR (NZ) never travelled comfortably throughout the event and was disappointing in its finishing effort.
 
APFEL (NZ) – Bumped on jumping. Crowded for room approaching the 1200m, resulting in the filly being steadied and shifting inwards.
 
ARAMINTA – Slow to begin. Unable to cure clear running for the majority of the home straight.
 
CRYPTIC SOUND – Raced wide for the majority.
 
SHE'S GOT LYRICS – Raced wide throughout.
 
VELOZES – Bumped on jumping. Laid in when placed under pressure near the 200m, obliging Jockey J. Orman to stop and correct his mount. When questioned regarding settling in a forward position outside of the leader, Jockey J. Orman advised that VELOZES was slowly away at its last start, however, today began well, and that it was his intention to obtain a position with cover, however it became apparent in the early stages that he would be unable to obtain a position with cover and therefore elected to allow the filly to settle in a position outside of the leader. Lost its off-hind plate in running.
 
VERY SWISH – Raced wide for the majority.
 
CRIMSON BEAUTY – Bumped on jumping.
 
Race 9: LADBROKES YARD COMMENTS BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP (4YO ONLY QTIS BONUSES APPLICABLE)   1350 M
 
PORKY – Shifted out under pressure approaching the 200m, before being corrected by its rider.
 
OUTBURST – Raced wide for the majority.
 
SHY GUY – Over raced during the early stages.
 
CHAYSE 'N' ADAM – Raced wide throughout. Approaching the 50m, raced in restricted room and was hampered when SHY GUY shifted in marginally and BETTER STRINGS shifted out slightly. Apprentice C. Waddell the rider of BETTER STRINGS and Jockey M. Du Plessis, the rider of SHY GUY, were both reminded of their obligations to stop and straighten their mounts in similar circumstances.
 
 
LA SEULE – Slow to begin.  
 
DESERT MIST – Began very awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority.
 
BETTER STRINGS – Slow to begin and lost ground.
 
 
Race 10: STRADBROKE CALCUTTA ON SALE NOW BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP       1200 M
 
MATTER OF HONOUR – Steadied leaving the 1100m when awkwardly placed at heels.
 
TIKKA READY – Apprentice Y. Lewis was reprimanded pursuant to AR132(7)(a)(ii) for using his whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m, 1 more time than permitted.
 
FUMIKO – Near the 1100m, was bumped and taken inwards by AMATHUBA when that runner was awkwardly placed at heels.
 
KUDU – Raced wide. Approaching the 300m, had to be shifted out to avoid the heels of SPILL THE TEARS, when that runner shifted out and away from BILLIONAIR BABY.
 
SPILL THE TEARS – Raced wide. Entering the home straight shifted out and away from BILLIONAIR BABY.
 
THANKFUL HEART – Raced wide.
 
AMATHUBA – Near the 1100m was taken inwards when awkwardly placed at the heels of TYPHOON TAAVI which shifted in. Apprentice T. Fenlon the rider of TYPHOON TAAVI was reprimanded pursuant AR 131 (a) for allowing her mount to shift ground when insufficiently clear. Jockey J. Orman reported that in his opinion the tempo of the race didn’t suit his mount and that the mare would also appreciate racing on a bigger track.
 
MOUNT FUJI - Began awkwardly. Near the 1100m, was obliged to steady when awkwardly placed to the inside of FUMIKO, which was taken in by AMATHUBA, which was awkwardly placed at the heels of TYPHOON TAVVI. Held up for the majority of the home straight.  When questioned, Jockey J. Bayliss stated that he made the decision to shift to the outside of FUMIKO when rounding the home turn, however when that runner shifted wider, it resulted in him being caught to the outside of the heels of FUMIKO and as a consequence, was unable to secure clear running for the remainder of the home straight. He added, that in hindsight it may have been a better option to remain on the rail, availing himself a run to the inside.
 
GREAT ASPIRATIONS (NZ) – Bumped on jumping.
 
BILLIONAIR BABY– Hampered between runners on jumping. Near the 1100m steadied from the heels of GREAT ASPIRATIONS (NZ) which shifted in. Jockey R. Maloney the rider of GREAT ASPIRATIONS (NZ) was reprimanded pursuant AR 131(a) for allowing his mount to shift ground when insufficiently clear. Approaching the 500m, was obliged to check and steady away from the heels of GREAT ASPIRATIONS (NZ) when the pace of the race slackened.
