GENERAL

After the running of race 3 B El-Issa was stood down by the Club Doctor due to injury and was replaced by M Du Plessis as the rider of PATTY’S FORTUNE.

Race 1: HAPPY EASTER FROM THE BRC QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap
1400 metres

KENNY BOY – Raced keen in the early stages.

VETTA VELOCITA – Began awkwardly. Bumped near the 200m.

SEEFELD – Approaching the 200m laid out under pressure and brushed VETTA VELOCITA.

GENERAL WOLFFE – Raced three wide throughout.


Race 2: TAB VENUE MODE BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 2200 metres

STARDOME (NZ) – Change of Tactics – To be ridden further for forward circumstances permitting. Began awkwardly and settled midfield. Shortly after the start shift in onto and as a result ABERLADY was taken in onto JOYMAKER.

JOYMAKER – Hampered shortly after the start.

PICARO – Change of Tactics – To be ridden further for forward circumstances permitting. Ridden forward from barriers and was obliged to race three wide in the early stages. Near the 400m was forced wider by TRADUCE who taken out by MISHANI SECRET which shifted out to improve. Raced restricted room between TRADUCE and STARDOME which shifted in. Performed below market expectations, underwent a post-race veterinary examination which did not identify any abnormal findings. Jockey M Rodd was fined $300 for using the whip 6 times prior to the 100m, which is 1 more than permitted. AR132(7)(a)(ii)

ABERLADY – Hampered shortly after the start.

YOUNGBLOOD – App A Patis was fined $300 for using the whip 7 times prior to the 100m, which is 2 more than permitted. AR132(7)(a)(ii)

ZAMZARA – Began awkwardly and was hampered shortly after the start and lost ground.

MISHANI SECRECT – Over the concluding stages steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of JOYMAKER which shifted out under pressure. Jockey J Byrne was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

TRADUCE (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Near the 1000m was unable to be restrained from the heels of PICARO and as a result shifted wider and raced wide for the remainder. Near the 400m was forced wider by MISHANI SECRET who shifted out to improve. Jockey R Fradd was fined $500 for using the whip 6 times prior to the 100m, which is 1 more than permitted. AR132(7)(a)(ii)


Race 3: SKY RACING Colts, Geldings and Entires BENCHMARK 72 Handicap 1200 metres

DIXON BAY – Slow to begin. Raced three wide throughout. A post-race veterinary examination the gelding to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer G Heinrich was notified that she will be required to provide a Veterinary Clearance prior to the horse racing or trialing again.

COUP – Over-raced in the early and middle stages.

FIREBOX – Raced three wide throughout.

CLEARANCE SALE – Began awkwardly.

SHIFTY SHAMUS – Slow to begin.

Race 4: STRADBROKE SEASON ON SALE NOW Fillies and Mares BENCHMARK 72 Handicap 1200 metres


DIS DAH WUN – Raced three wide in the early stages. Laid in over the concluding stages.

LINE UP – Raced three wide throughout.

EAST ASIA (NZ) – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Jockey L. Dittman was spoken to in regards to his whip action in raising his whip arm above shoulder height over the concluding stages.

CENTREFIRE – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight. Apprentice J Huxtable was fined $300 pursuant to AR132(5) in that he used his whip in an excessive manner, that being on 16 occasions.

ROASTED – Rider A Spinks reported that the mare did not appreciate today’s track conditions.

Race 5: QLD GUINEAS DAY 1 MAY 3YO QUALITY HANDICAP 1200 metres

GOTTA KISS – After passing the 600m shifted out around the heels of APACHE CHASE and bumped heavily with MASS DESTRUCTION and carried that horse wider on the track. Rider S Thornton was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the filly’s disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination GOTTA KISS revealed the filly to be coughing a number of times. Trainer O’Dea undertook to advise Stewards of the results of Veterinary examination including the satisfactory results of an endoscopic examination.

MASS DESTRUCTION – Began awkwardly.


Race 6: DERBY DAY 29 MAY Class 3 Plate 1400 metres

MONTEZ – Began awkwardly. Apprentice L Kilner was unable to offer any tangible explanation for the geldings disappointing performance, however stated that the gelding raced keenly in the early and middle stages and failed to respond to her riding in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination did not identify any abnormal findings.

THE DARK (NZ) – Began awkwardly and lost ground.

JOY'S REWARD – Approaching the 1200m whilst racing keenly steadied when placed in restricted room to the inside of RACING PARADISE which shifted in momentarily. Rider J Byrne was reprimanded under AR131(a) for permitting his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear.


Race 7: OAKS DAY 5 JUNE BENCHMARK 90 Handicap
1400 metres

Correct weight was delayed when the 4th placegetter Jockey R Maloney (JUNCTION) requested to view the patrol films to ascertain whether he had grounds to lodge a protest against the 2nd placegetter WREN’S DAY (App L Kilner) over the final 150m. After viewing the films, Jockey R Maloney advised that he did not wish to proceed with the protest and Stewards declared correct weight on the Judges placings.

TOP PROSPECT (NZ) – Raced three wide throughout.

WREN'S DAY (USA) – Began awkwardly and bumped heavily by JAY JAY’DAR. Shifted in under pressure in the home straight. Near the 150m shifted in under pressure and made heavily contact with JUNCTION.

JUNCTION – Bumped heavily by WREN’S DAY near the 150m.

LOVE STRUCK – Near the 150m was inconvenienced when JAY JAY D’DAR shifted out to obtain clear running.

SHE ZA BOSS – Rider R Fradd reported that the mare failed to respond when placed under pressure home. A post-race veterinary examination did not identify any abnormal findings.

Race 8: STRADBROKE DAY 12 JUNE Class 6 Handicap 1600 metres

KUBRICK – Near the 1200m steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of WORD FOR WORD.

UNBIASED – Slow to begin.

WALKING FLYING (NZ) – Laid in under pressure from the 150m.

VINCO – Near the 1400m steadied when racing in restricted room for a short distance.

MURLESS (NZ) – Began awkwardly.

SLOW HANDS (NZ) – Steadied when awkwardly placed at the heels of DREAMTIMER which shifted in. App M Wishart was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

RED DOULTON – Slow to begin.

Race 9: BRC TV Class 6 Handicap 1000 metres

PIZONIE – Blundered on jumping. Raced keen in the early and middle stages. Rider R Maloney reported concerns with the geldings action in the event. A post-race veterinary examination of PIZONIE identified the gelding short striding both fore legs.

BOLD STYLE – Began awkwardly. Near the 800m steadied when placed in restricted to the inside of DEFENCE MISSILE which was taken in by PIZONIE and as a result shifted wider and raced three wide for the remainder.

KALIK – Raced three wide throughout.

WIRNPA – Slow to begin. A post-race veterinary examination identified the gelding to be lame in the near fore leg. Trainer W Hulbert was notified that he be required to provide a Veterinary Clearance prior to the horse racing or trialing again. Trainer W Hulbert advised that the gelding will be retired from racing following today’s events.

AIR SPIRIT – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running round the home turn.

DEVILS MARBLES – Raced keen in the early and middle stages.
