On return to scale L Dittman, rider of second past the post, MATOWI, viewed the partrol footage over the concluding stages. After doing so L Dittman lodged a protest against first past the post BOOMSARA alleging interference over the final 150 metres. After viewing the patrol footage, taking evidence from connections of both runners and taking into account the manner in which both runners finished the race off, Stewards dismissed the protest finding that whilst both BOOMSARA and MATOWI shifted out over the final 150 metres, there was no significant contact between these runners over the concluding stages. At a subsequent inquiry L Dittman was fined $200 under AR219(5) for lodging, which in the opinion of the Stewards, was a frivolous protest.
