Race 1: LADBROKES YARD COMMENTS QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap
1200 metres
 
SPIRIT OF BRODIE – When asked to comment regarding the performance of the gelding, Jockey J. Orman stated that his mount travelled well throughout but when asked for an effort when straightening, ran to the line in a disappointing manner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed SPIRIT OF BRODIE lost its off-fore plate.
 
HE'S FOR THE GIRLS – Over raced throughout. Approaching the 900m shifted out marginally contacting MINA’S LEGACY.
 
THE PUNISHER – Slow to begin.
 
BARELLO – Raced greenly in the home straight.
 
KITRI – Raced wide throughout.
 
MISHANI AMBITIOUS – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Passing the 250m bumped with BARELLO which shifted in whilst racing greenly. Jockey B. Thompson reported to Stewards at scale that he was instructed to take up a forward position but once beginning awkwardly, was forced to settle further back.
 
TANGO FEVER – Passing the 900m was obliged to steady when shifting in to obtain cover. A warning was placed on the filly’s barrier manners after proving difficult to load.
 
MINA'S LEGACY – Raced wide throughout. Momentarily inconvenienced passing the 900m when HE’S FOR THE GIRLS shifted in. Jockey A. Mallyon could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance, but it was of his opinion the filly would benefit from today’s run.
 
Race 2: COUNTRY MUSIC RACEDAY 9 SEPTEMBER Class 3 Plate
1000 metres
 
NORD LYON – Began awkwardly.
 
PARK AVENUE – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight until passing the 300m. Laid in under pressure.
 
AIRSTRIKE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
ZOUMETEOR – When asked to comment, Jockey T. Marshall stated his mount weakened when placed under pressure in the home straight and was disappointed in its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow post-race recovery.
 
CABRINELLA – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
LI'L WONDER – Passing the 500m was momentarily inconvenienced when having to be steadied to avoid the heels of KAT CHINA which rolled in marginally. When questioned, apprentice A. Jones stated that in her opinion the filly never felt comfortable in today’s going. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. When asked to comment trainer T. Gollan stated this in his opinion LI’L WONDER didn’t appreciate todays track surface, he added that it was his intention to have the filly scoped on return to the stable and would report back on the condition of the filly in the subsequent days.
 
RUSSIAN PINS – Passing the 800m had to be restrained after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of PARK AVENUE.
 
Race 3: TEDDY BEARS PICNIC AT THE RACES BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 2200 metres
 
OZ LEGEND (IRE) – When asked to comment, Jockey J. Orman stated his mount travelled well throughout however when placed under pressure failed to respond. In his opinion the gelding felt one paced. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer representative B. Killion stated that in his opinion the track favoured runners settling on the speed and was the intention of the stable to continue with preparation but would report back to Stewards in the following days subsequent.
 
READILY AVAILABULL – Difficulty obtaining clear running on rounding the home turn. Raced in restricted room for a number of strides at the 400m between SCARLET TUFTY and GLEN MASSEY (NZ).
 
INUWASHI (IRE) – Slow to begin. Passing the 1200m was allowed to shift wider in an attempt to improve. Laid in rounding the home turn. When asked to comment regarding the performance, Jockey B. Thompson stated he had to place his mount under pressure further out than anticipated and travelled wide from the 1200m, the gelding laid in rounding the home turn and was disappointing in its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
JUST A JEDI – Difficulty obtaining clear running on entering the home straight.
 
CARBONETTI (IRE) – Began awkwardly.
 
CHERNAK (FR) – Held up for clear running from the 500m. On straightening had to be eased when awkwardly placed on the heels of JUST A JEDI. Passing the 400m was obliged to shift wider in attempt to improve into clear running. Approaching the 300m raced in restricted room for a number of strides between PORT MOURANT and INUWASHI.
 
GLEN MASSEY (NZ) – Raced wide early stages and commenced to over race when being restrained passing the mile.
 
SCILAGO – Hampered shortly after jumping away. Approaching the 1000m had to be checked after improving onto the heels of CHERNAK (FR). Passing the 800m had to be steadied after racing in restricted room between CHERNAK and OZ LEGEND after CHERNAK shifted out to improve.
 
Race 4: MEKKAFEST 19 AUGUST No Metro Wins Handicap 1400 metres
 
MERITABLE – Awkwardly placed on the heels of SMYTZER leaving the 1000m when the pace of the race slackened.
 
REJOICED – Laid in under pressure in the straight.
 
TITANIUM – Stood flat footed as the start was affected and was slow into stride. Laid in under pressure rounding the home turn and had difficulty obtaining clear running. Approaching the 200m became awkwardly placed at the heels of DARING BELLE and shifted in again in an attempt to improve. Approaching the 100m was disappointed for a run between CHARLIE’S CASE which rolled out and DARING BELLE which shifted in and from that point ran to the line untested.
 
CHARLIE'S CASE – Passing the 1200m became awkwardly placed on heels when the pace of the race slackened. Passing the 150m was obliged to correct her mount after laying in. Passing the 50m became awkwardly placed at the heels of PETUNIA which shifted out under pressure.
 
DARING BELLE – Passing the 150m became awkwardly placed at the heels of MERITABLE and shifted in to improve.
 
MOONAN ME – Slow to begin. Over raced middle stages.
 
PETUNIA – Slow to begin. Shifted out under pressure over the concluding stages and approaching the winning post shifted out contacting SMYTZER.
 
SMYTZER – Bumped approaching the winning post by PETUNIA which shifted out.
 
COUP DE TONNERRE – Trainer T. Gollan advised Stewards of a change of tactics and the gelding would be ridden further forward if circumstances permit. Raced forward three wide without cover.
 
CRACK OF DOOM – Was monetarily inconvenienced passing the 300m.
 
MIO SORRENTO – Began awkwardly. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its near fore. Trainer J. Healy was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate prior to racing again.
 
 
Race 5: XXXX DRY QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1805 metres
 
MISHANI MISSILE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying clinical signs of heat stress.
 
RED TOP – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow post-race recovery.
 
TEXAS (NZ) – Bumped into FREDDIE after start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. When questioned regarding the performance Jockey J. Bayliss stated that the gelding raced like a tired horse and may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in its off hind. Trainer B. Smith was advised the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
WHISTLING SPIRIT – Began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly bumping ROCKED.  
 
MISHANI SPARTAN – When questioned regarding the improved performance of the gelding, trainer L. Ross stated that MISHANI SPARTAN had pleased in its work leading into today’s event and benefit from the slow tempo in today’s race and was of the opinion that MISHANI SPARTAN did benefit from the quality of todays field.
 
FREDDIE – Bumped into TEXAS after start. Jockey S. Collett stated that she could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance and gelding may have come to end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer J Bruce reported FREDDIE would be going for an immediate spell.
 
CYGNET RIVER – When questioned regarding the performance today, Jockey D. Thornton stated in his opinion the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative B. Killion stated that they would report on the condition of the gelding in the days subsequent.
 
ROCKED – Hampered on jumping.
 
Race 6: MOUNT FRANKLIN BENCHMARK 78 Handicap 1600 metres
MIX – Difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 300m laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
RENOUF – When asked to comment regarding tactics adopted today, Jockey J. Orman stated that it wasn’t his intention to settle so far forward, however when the mare jumped better than expected he elected to settle further forward. When questioned trainer P. Jenkins stated that after discussing tactics with J. Orman he anticipated settling further forward than last start but after jumping well was surprised to see RENOUF settling so far forward. Stewards reminded P. Jenkins of his obligations to notify potential change of tactics in future.
 
CANASTA (FR) – Lost off hind plate.
 
ANCIENT GIRL (NZ) – Jockey B. Thornton stated that he felt the mare travelled well throughout the event but once placed under pressure proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
SHOPPING ESPRIT – Hampered after the start. Laid in under pressure.
 
JAKAMA – Began awkwardly and shifted in on jumping. Shortly after was carried out resulting in JAKAMA becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of HARROW (IRE) and had to be steadied. Raced in restricted room for a number of strides passing the 100m and laid in under pressure.
 
FIVE CROWNS – Shifted out on jumping.
 
WEGOBAM – Approaching the 200m was obliged to alter course to secure clear running to the outside of CANASTA.
 
Race 7: SKY RACING OPEN Handicap 1400 metres
 
STAMPE – Began awkwardly.
 
SHAQUERO – Slow to begin. Over racing during the early and middle stages. Had to be steadied passing the 500m after BLAZE A TRAIL shifted out to improve into clear running. Jockey R. Maloney rider of BLAZE A TRAIL was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) and advised to take greater care when shifting ground in future.
 
THE RITZ – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.  
 
FLEETWOOD MACA (NZ) – Raced greenly when raced under pressure in the home straight.
 
Race 8: RACECOURSE VILLAGE BENCHMARK 85 Handicap 1200 metres
 
KINLOCH – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running on entering the home straight.
 
LA AMIGO – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near hind. Trainer S. Kendrick was advised LA AMIGO would require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
FASTCONI – Held up in the home straight until the 150m.
 
AMMOUDI BAY – Inconvenienced shortly after jumping. Held up for clear running on the home straight and was obliged to shift wider to improve. Trainer O. Cairns was fined $100 pursuant to LR 67(1) for failing to declare a rider within the described time.
 
SAFEWORK – Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and until approaching the 150m.
 
OUTBACK ACTION – Awkwardly placed on heels at the 700m.
 
WIN BURN – A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
 
 
Race 9: GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap 1200 metres
 
GREAT BARRIER REEF – Began awkwardly. When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding Jockey D. Thornton stated his mount travelled well in the early and middle stages but weakened during the finishing stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow post-race recovery. Trainer B. Killion advised he would report back on the condition of the gelding in the days subsequent.
 
STARRY EYES – Began awkwardly.
 
SIX SIDES – Raced in restricted room for a number of strides passing the 1000m.
 
DESERT MIST – Approaching the 700m had to be restrained after improving onto the heels of STARRY EYES.
 
IRON GRACE – Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
THIS IS ONE – Declared a late scratching at 4:30pm on veterinary advice. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on THIS IS ONE to be refunded with the following deductions to be applied to all successful bets.
1ST FREEDOM RALLY 2c win, 2c place.
2nd VODKA MARTINI  1c place.
3rd NORTHERN EXPRESS 4c place.
 
CHIKARA – Approaching the 1000m was hampered and obliged to race in restricted room for a number of strides when racing to the inside of SIX SIDES who was carried in by FREEDOM RALLY which shifted in under riding. Jockey B. Thompson rider of FREEDOM RALLY was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for this and was reminded to exercise greater care in future.
